this movie did two great achievements:

there is this great comic book drawn by the legendary richard corben that is a story about hellboy in mexico with luchadores and shit and i enjoy that being the opening of the movie.

Gruagach was the only grace of this movie, but not enough to save it. Even he was drug down by an annoying small form, constant swearing, spotty cgi and a made-up death that destroys part of his character in the comics.

Nothing else but the creature designs stick out to me from this. Honestly buy the artbook instead of watching the movie.

The Hellboy movies were always cult classics and one of Del Toro's many passion projects. They never did that well to begin with, and the only quality they had was because of Del Toro's autistic attention to detail, practical effects and good use of CGI.

Its a combination of the original movies being better, people don't want to see anything that's not Marvel or DC when it comes to comic book stuff, and it got released at the worse fucking possible month. Seriously, one week after Shazam comes out, and two weeks before Endgame comes out. Its like they knew it would fail and they just threw it at the wolves.

some of the shit is laughably bad. his big arm is attached to the coat, so when he moves it all moves together. when he files his horns you see the rubber move. at one point he comes out of the water and his hand looks orange instead of red (also his nails change color in another scene due to forgetting the make up there).

That much I can give it credit for, Captain Trips, but sadly, the bad far outweighed the good. I have no idea why they insist on going “End of the World” every single time. They could have limited the scope of the story to just Baba Yaga and her needing to be put on a leash, and we could have had an excellent film. Instead, they try to give us wide-scale destruction and Hell on Earth when they clearly didn’t have the budget for it.

It could’ve been made for licensing reasons. Considering it’s only a 50 million dollar budget I think this is more likely.
