It's pretty nice actually, better than BR2049 at least
GITS live action film deserved better tbqh
I do not like scarjew running around as the major, but the movie was beautifully made and bery pretty. They should have only used the original 1995 movie for plot material and not try to shove stand alone complex in it
I grew up with the 1995 anime then jumped into the manga so this is no better or worse than ARISE or even SAC for me. I'll always be favorable to the 1995 because of the impression the intricate and realistic artwork had on me.
This scene is kino tho:
youtube.com
Terrible casting.
It's legit better than the Original Bladerunner.
ITT: Nigger-tier opinions
yeah, it was really good
most people on here and in general have no taste or ability to know whats good and what isn't without someone telling them
It’s extremely underrated
Popcorn stuffing, coke guzzling morons.
This board is full of pathetic tranny Jewish nigger faggots.
Nah man, this even felt like generic capeshit
eh
I didn't hate it I guess but the ending was way too sappy
b-b-ut is not as deep and philosophical as my cartoon! which I call anime because it makes them feel different
Every adaptation is different so why did this one get so much hate?
b-but its fucking not though.
Hollywood
Because it's shit. Arise was also hated because it's a shit adaptation. The live action movie doesn't even have an identity of its own, they just took various plot points and characters from all the other adaptations and tried to mix them together then threw in a Robocop origin story. It's an incoherent mess.
it didn't have waifu pandering like Alita
It’s the most convincing argument against “adapting” anime to live action. At this point everyone should get that if you can *tell* its based on anime, it’s bad (unlike say oldboy)
Reminder “Scarlet Johanssen” ‘s haplogroup is somalian
I have never watched the anime and only vaguely remember a trailer for this. My intent is to go in open minded and just judge it as a singular entity and maybe branch outward if its that entertaining.
Can any anons give me a realistic rating for the film without resorting to 'its shit'?
It’s like the 1995 movie except oppressively ugly
So unless you think any of the gits titles actually have good writing, you should know what you’re in for.
So I avoided watching Scarjo in the Shell when it came out. But since watching Alita I wanted to see how the last major Hollywood anime adaptation worked out.
Holy shit it's bad. The characters are like parodies of their selves from the '95 movie. They took the trappings of GitS '95 and used them to tell a cliche Hollywood story where one evil mastermind is responsible for everything bad happening in the story and the characters each have quirky personality traits depicted in awkward ways. Like Batou feeding the dogs. And more Hollywood cliches like the villain ordering a subordinate to kill the Major who gets won over by Scarjo's blank expression and frees her instead.
There's loads of crappy effects, like the woman with the eyes that detatch, and right after she appears and the Major does her dive into the geisha bot, the greenscreen effect is obvious. The tank fight is a joke that manages to completely miss everything that made the '95 tank fight so memorable. Some of the giant ad holograms are kind of neat, but the city designs overall are an incoherent mess.
Scarjo herself is agonizing to watch, I get the feeling she was struggling not to bust out laughing at the absurdity of it all. She tells the audience over and over again about her feelings of depersonalization but the story never manages to convey it. She turns down the hacker's offer to merge into one being and instead opts for a typical happy family reunion Hollywood ending.
Whoever wrote this didn't have any understanding of the themes in the original, just alluding to them and hoping that some of the '95 movie's quality will rub off. They literally ripped out the heart of GitS, tool some of the trappings and used them to wrap a safe good-versus-evil story with a happy ending. The Major backs down from merging with Kuze and instead goes back to her mom, and the theme of depersonalization and the deterioration of human identity in an age of cyborgs is just used as a tool to show the character's uncertainty about her previous life.
Oh, and I felt sorry for Beat Takeshi here. The other actors don't actually understand his Japanese dialog so he has no one to play off of, and instead they use him like a living prop. They give him silly costumes and put him on weird sets in lieu of developing any character for him.
I legitimately have no idea what this franchise is or was. I'm assuming it is the Japanese interpretation of cyberpunk?
The movie didn't look as good as in the trailers. Also the last showdown was ridiculously dark, we could barely see anything. A dumbed down plot tailored for the Transformers audience and a terrible main actress who is so lazy she never even watched the originals or tried to understand the character. This stupid cunt was walking around like a fucking star wars droid! She was channeling CPO!
>better than BR2049
BR2049 was garbage. And you are a pleb. Move on.
Its a 3/5 can be a 4/5 if you particulary love cyberpunk movies/setting.
It's the deepest work of fiction ever made according to its fans
>BR2049 was garbage
Blade Runner inspired a lot of japanese artists. GITS has a lot common with it.
There are so many spergs who apparently think gits is about “consciousness” or “technology” or some other vague nonsense like this. In reality the manga is just about its insane author’s fetishes whereas the movie is a semi-sophisticated statement about fetishism & asia.
It only works if you don't think of it as an remake of the original GitS. Think of it as an stand-alone Deus Ex film and it'll be much more enjoyable.
Live action animes are never good. Even Japan fails with it.
it's enjoyable. hard to live up to such a great anime though, especially as a western adaptation.
"ghost in the shell" refers to human consciousness in a cyborg shell. main character is a law enforcement officer in a cyborg shell, and the show is a spy thriller sort of affair. it's very much Japanese cyberpunk, as opposed to western cyberpunk.
>Arise
I liked Arise. I didn't look as a prologue but as it's own separate universe
post her fat ass
Ghost in the taco bell roflmao!!!!
This user gets it
Well yeah, it is a separate continuity. It's still mediocre at best and does nothing interesting with the whole early Section 9 premise.
Did they put any SJW shit in it? Piggus sure do love to do that.
I actually enjoyed it. I like the visuals and the atmosphere
Did you watch the original?
Not really. They bragged about casting an Australian aboriginal actor, then his one line in the movie was about having a liver augmentation installed so he could drink more. Lol.
Also the Major's brain was taken from a girl who almost drowned after her refugee boat headed to Japan was destroyed by terrorists but that turns out to be false anyway. That's about it for SJW themes.
It got a lot of heat but it's definitely a 6/10, "OK" movie. There's some competent special effects, Scarjo is not horrendous as Motoko and I thought the scenes where she finds her mom's house and semi-regains her memories was neat and well-executed. Not a masterpiece by any means, but I feel like weebs wanted to bury it purely for conceptual reasons
>The ghost in the shell live action film is kino
It's a remake of Robocop disguised as GITS that cherry picks bits and piece's of the manga and animated movies/shows and does nothing original. Why couldn't that faggot Cameron have Produced a live action GITS movie instead of that Lilibot shit Alita!?! The concept is strong and there's a multitude of things you can do with it!!!FACT!!!
>171 KB JPGThis board is full of pathetic tranny Jewish nigger faggots.
Then you fit right in!!!FACT!!!
>BR2049 was garbage.
No, you just have really poor taste for film.
This movie was ugly af, which is tragic considering the beauty of the original anime.
This was the best movie I saw in the theater in 2017. IMAX was kino.
It was alright. Coulda used a better plot
Aria WAS shit but it had some moments that I could only describe as, the feels
Is GitS Scarlet the last waifuable ScarJo? Because in Infinity War and Endgame trailer she look like orbiting around the wall...dunno, what do you think?
I think the film is just a futuristic take on the cold war defection scenario gone awry. If you watch the film with the old director's commentary they speak in length about how sexy the major is. Seems like that was a serious focus for the creators heh
Vicky Christina barcelona
They lift a ton of shit from William gibson. Shirow is from kobe and probably thought some westerners perspective of his home would be cool as a manga desu
Bunch of anime hating american Asians complained about white washing
hot jew.
