The whole idea that complexity=good is a farce. It's just a relatively modern trend of writers getting too insular and self-fellating and wanting to make everything a twist, spin, etc.
For thousands of years, across countless cultures, so many of our classic tales and legends and myths have involved "one dimensional characters". There is nothing at all fundamentally wrong with that. Not everything needs to be a deconstruction or subversion or whatever.

The Sith put in the rule of two because they were too disunified. Their whole deal was taking down the Republic because they thought it was shit and corrupt.

Their review of The Revenge of the Sith they talked about how he was the only character who wasn't stupid and had a clear motivation. And that he was fun.

It was a government SO, SO WEAK, they let the Empire dissidents reunite thenselves and rebuild without being stopped, refused all of Leia's calls to stop the First Order while it was growing, and they were canonically overtrowed in a single day by the First Order because of it. In a single fucking day. They were so pathetic, one of their war heroes abandoned then to become a muggler, and his only headache were other mugglers, because unlike the empire, the republic gives zero shits about muggling.
