Trying to find any sense in the sequels is entirely pointless. TFA and TLJ are boiling with incoherences regarding their own intrinsic plots, how their plots inter-relate, and how they relate to the rest of the Star Wars movies.

Why? Because coherence was in the bottom of their priority list. The top priorities were fanservice, low-risk, implementing the Marvel formula, production value, forced diversity (unlike natural diversity in Spider-Verse, for example), etc.. In other words, they didn't care about making good movies but about making a good cash grab, so they focused on pandering the pleb masses as much as they could.

I like Adam Driver. The problem is, this character is worse than a throwaway MCU villain. A somewhat developed Loki would be acceptable, but Ren is more akin to basic bitch Malekith, aka wasted potential.

The only way Disney can redeem Star Wars and the Skywalker family is by having Kylo Ren redeemed and him becoming a Jedi master to train a new generation of Jedi. Think about it Anakin was a Jedi but fell to the dark side and his redemption was very brief and had no effect beyond Luke really. Luke who resisted the dark side besides flirting with it a bit, then goes on to fail in training the next generation and dies without ever fully experiencing both sides like Anakin. Ren must be redeemed and not just sacrifice himself or do something heroic in a one time thing and then die like Vader. He must be the one to redeem the entire Skywalker family from failure. Disney better have Sheev be on the verge of killing Rey or whatever other big bad and Ren finally being pushed by to the light in realizing his real purpose is finding something to protect or being the parental figure he never had. But since it's Disney, Rey will kill evil Kylo Ren and then kill Sheev, etc without a single time experiencing defeat and thus no personal growth at all
