I honestly expected more from an opening episode, although the recent seasons don't really give any reason to expect anything great from this trainwreck of a once quite enjoyable show. Anyway, I did like to see Arya reuniting with Jon just because I like the characters in the books and I was left with a hopeful feeling that somebody might kill Sansa in the episodes to come because she's a powerhungry bitch, but other than that the episode was somewhat of a disappointment. Of course, Sansa has feminismarmor so there's no chance of that happening and I'll be disappointed again.

Really weird pacing, why did the scenes with Cersei last so long when they contributed the least to the episode? John's reaction to the biggest plot point of the series was completely nothing. It's buildup, mostly. Looking better than the last two seasons though.

Basically this It would have been solid as a season opener in any other season, but they burnt through all the "nothing happens except talking" allowance for this season in my books.
It was also a breath of fresh air that there was no pointlessness or stupidity to anything that transpired. Maybe the only thing is the completely consequenceless un-doing of the captivity of Theon's sister, but that's more of a fault with the previous season's writing than this one, provided what happens next on that front makes sense.

Chemistry between Jon and Dany was good, and it's good they've gotten the big twist with regards to him out in the open. I only hope they don't fuck things up by making the significance of this reveal revolve around Sansa's high opinion of herself and low opinion of Dany/ex-king Jon.
Sam should also express at least a desire to see how his mother and sister are doing, and Edmure shouldn't be ignored, but apart from that I don't see much unresolved baggage left after this episode, so I can say it was successful if boring.

I don't know what I expected, but I do feel kinda let down.

I'm a bookfag and I'm not angry at any one of those people, nor am I seething about anything.
I hope GRRM gets the books out before he dies but I'm not expecting much and I'm a bit sad about that. Anyway, I think the show lost what was great about it somewhere during season 5 when the storylines became boring and extremely predictable. I'm not mad at D&D for this either, just disappointed that they didn't keep up with the elements I found enjoyable, but that's how life goes. I couldn't create anything half as decent myself though, so I don't think I have any reason or right to be angry at anyone for not upholding my personal expectations or preferences.
I'd be interested in knowing where you guys come up with these assumptions that book fans are somehow angry about a show that was never supposed to be a direct adaptation anyway.
