Texhnolyze isn't even that good. It's just slow, complex and has a typical minimalist feeling of early 2000's digital anime, so suddenly it's an arthouse classic.

I love Texhnolyze but I just can't understand how it has such widespread critical acclaim when it takes such a niche approach to the subject matter. I think it's a good show mind you, I just don't understand how it's popular.

1) It's a dystopia story, this sets it apart a bit from other animu

2) It got brought over to the west ages ago, normalfags are starved of anime because they need dubs so this brings up its 'popularity' a bit

3) It gets focused by "those with supposed good taste" across all anime boards from reddit to Yea Forums.

You're absolutely correct. It is of no surprised that there are other anonymous anime forums that have surpassed it greatly when it comes to quality of content and opinions. Shin/a/ is pleb central.

Having said that, although it's a meme chart, I wouldn't qualify any of those shows as bad. The only show I think it's incredibly overrated is Berserk which has laughable animation and direction and is mostly carried by its stellar soundtrack.

Well, yes, but not all anons are made equal. Shin/a/ is basically Reddit, everything is great, everything is subjective, don't you dare be a "contrarian". You can still get a sense from old Yea Forums when you have some nice funposting threads or when you're watching some seasonal show that isn't very popular like Mahoujin Guru Guru or Hi Score Girl, you have comfy threads with minimal shitposting and you have constructive discussion about it. But Yea Forums for the longest time has become shonenshit central with bullshit Yea Forums tier fan wars because that's just so great. Jannies and mods can't do anything about it since phoneposting is a thing and discussing shit like Naruto has been allowed by m**t for whatever braindead reason. Shitposting can be fun, Super threads were a legitimate meme factory, but that panders to a segment of the anonymous population that is otherwise undesirable on that board and that persists in it after that shit show has stopped airing. The board culture has been on the decline for a long long time. Fortunately there are alternatives, and some rather good ones.
