They are pulling a Tony Soprano and trying to make her a shit bag in one season so people will hate her, because they were too desperate to write off the good will of the fans as her being a powerful stronk woman, and write her with any subtlety in the first place. Imagine if she'd been crazy slowly, over time, in steps and how much it would pay off and be great.

Tony was always a bastard. They ramped it up to 11 in Season 6, but what about Davey? What about killing a made guy over a fucking hoo-ar(se)? What about Tony B? What about the countless pigs he's had his dick in over the years?

It's kind of an inversion. Dany has no subtlety so they have to throw in the evil last minute and fake some.
Tony had tons of subtlety until the last season, and they pulled that layer out so they could make it work thematically.
I hate her for being a shit actress, and I find her side of the story boring. But I'm trying to make a point of how this will play in today's climate of SJW's in media. I guess they figure they can just ride off into the sunset as it's over anyway.

Ralphie brutally murdered Tracey the stripper for basically no reason, killed his girlfriend's son (Jackie Jr) even though he didn't have to then dumped her for fucking Janice of all people etc. He wasn't quite Richie Aprile levels of sociopath but he was easily amongst the top-five most amoral characters
Tony was selfish and self centered, it was his fatal flaw and the show implied it would be his undoing (no loyalty from Carlo due to his constant berating of him-->Carlo cooperating with the feds). Also Chris didn't give up Adriana out of any affection for Tony but just because he couldn't give up the life and go back to being a regular schmuck (the scene at the gas station), same reason Vito came back out of hiding
