Save money on actors. ASoIaF has a shit ton of recurring named characters that you would need to cast with real actors, not just extras, and that shit gets expensive. In the books the cast of characters actually grew larger with every book despite several PoV dying in books 2 and 3. In the show the cast rarely grew past season 2. Look at who the principle characters were then, and who are the principle characters now. We have only a few additions.

The real problem is that D&D are hacks who didn't plan anything out long term and can't write good original material. They just decided to adapt Dorne and the High Septon storylines figuring they would lead somewhere and then they had to throw them out wholesale when they realized they had a season and a half left to wrap everything up and everyone other than Jon and Tyrion hadn't progressed at all since the end of S4. So there was a lot of nothing followed by a lot of rushing, which is why this all feels like shit.

The FMA manga is overhyped, it’s just an insultingly basic battle of good vs evil in a generic take over the world plot, with most of the antagonists being unrealistic cartoon villain-sues and yet it wants to played straight and taken seriously.

I agree except for their endings. FMA's ending was stupid and out of left-field. Brotherhood's was surprisingly brilliant. Much smarter than what I expected from a kid's cartoon.

I have a personal theory that GRRM never was the main writer of the later books. He had a team of writers that ghost wrote the different POV chapters (I did for a while think GRRM wrote all the Arya chapters but I don't think so now) and then he may have 'edited' them a bit. My proof for this is literally my ass and the fact that the 'World of Ice and Fire' book is written more consistently an likely by the ghost writing team.

The books have been mired in shit for a while now, so much so that the author can't even bring himself to write the rest.

Winter has come, everything is darker and they only have candles to bring some tiny bit of light.
