Scuba gear is likely, I have The Art of Force Awakens and the first piece of concept art in 2012 was Kira (later Rey) Scuba diving past the trenches of the wreckage of the second Death Star and reaching the Emperor's chamber. They mention that it wasn't meant to make sense, only that it was meant to portray a certain mood. Now they're actually using it.

It's pathetic, JJ went back to all the ideas that were trashed during TFA. That means this story is going nowhere, they're filling it with whatever they can to have a 2 hours runtime. Be ready for mindless action sequences and explosion and no plot at all.
