i loved the first. i absolutely hate this bit in the second when they shuffle towards eachother it looks retarded. It also leans too far towards stupid characters like the baseball guy is absolute cringe. Garath Evans is still a great action director and i hope his deathstroke film sees the light of day at some point.

My favorite action movie. It had a real grit to it that a lot of other action movies lack, with how the protagonists are visibly worn down over the course of the movie and use up all their resources until they go from full tactical gear and machine guns to just their bare fists. It was also great how much punishment everyone took- most martial arts flicks have the hero knock out his opponents with a single kick to the face, but The Raid showed that it's really difficult to actually knock someone unconscious, and the drastic actions necessary to keep people down in the movie kept every action sequence tense.

While the sequel's a good movie in its own right, I don't like it nearly as much. The plot was really muddy at times, and it just lacked a lot of that grit by giving the hero breaks in-between fights and doing more typical martial arts sequences like fighting thirty dudes who go down in one hit like I complained about earlier. I won't deny that the individual, one-on-one fight scenes were fantastic, but they didn't flow together as well as they did in the first film.

Are you guys excited for Initial D live action 2

Best action movie ever movie I’ve ever see. Goes to show hiring talented actors and coordinators puts any cgi-fest to shame

Someone posted this response long ago and it went somewhere along the lines of the first being good because it had that sense of desperation to it all, especially when it was Rama and Andi having to both take down Mad Dog and only barely.

In Berandal, Rama becomes a one-man superman, especially in the last battle where he takes out literally everyone.

I also noticed, thinking about it now that the ending conflicts mirrors the first: Take out the toughest guy and then proceed to have some sort of emotional catharsis with whoever the person pulling the strings was.

Tip top kino hopefully Garett makes a third. Headshot was okay I guess Merantau was really good and I still gotta see the night comes for us, but these Indonesian martial arts films are fucking great.
