Regardless, here's a list of the marvel movies I considered "good" along with some movies I consider necessary for Endgame. The list is honestly longer than it should be, but I think part of the impact of Endgame is how many of us have waited years for the final confrontation with Thanos, so marathoning more movies than necessary would probably make Endgame a better experience.

There were some inconsistencies with Strange in IW compared to Ragnarok/Solo film, as he is seen cutting off a hand with his sling ring in the beginning and then not using that on Titan. I really enjoyed him in Ragnarok because it showed his progression of having mastered his skills and knowledge of characters beyond sorcerers.

They're the film equivalent of elevator music. No highs or lows, every movie genre thrown into a blender to create a mush with the hope that everyone can find some appetizing bits in it. The quips and constant ironic humor are like a safety mechanism that prevents you from taking the movies seriously so your expectations never get high enough to disappoint.

If there's a plot hole or an emotional moment falls flat, a character steps in with a quip to remind you that the movie is a big joke anyway. It's like in TDKR the plane scene became a meme because it's so ridiculous in the midst of a movie that wants you to take it seriously. The MCU avoids this problem by making the movies ridiculous all the way through so crappy storytelling won't bother you.

These movies would never survive without the immersion-breaking humor. The point of the humor is to keep you from getting immersed so you don't notice how dumb the plot is and how shallow the characters are. If you try to think at all about the characters or stories in these movies none of it makes sense, there's no consistency or sense of stakes, it's all just a series of rabbits pulled out of hats.

I was excited for infinity war but the MCU ain't doing so hot lately. Ant Man 2 and Captain Marvel were both junk. Spiderverse and Shazam were excellent on the other hand, and Aquaman was worth it for the spectacle.

So perhaps in multiple timelines he in fact DID manage to cut off Thanos’s hand and the Gauntlet. But even if that worked momentarily it can be surmised that it did not work in the long term to defeat Thanos.
