I just watched this show/episode because of this thread. There are two major problems:

1. Is the creature reading his thoughts and controlling his mind?

If so, why would the spider creature create situations in his mind like the female crew member doubting the reality of the situation? If this is a Matrix-like scenario, she controls everything that happens in the reality with only the person being manipulated being able to find inconsistencies.

2. If this is a "shared" false reality with the other crew members, why does the female crew member manage to realize that it's all fake? And does the spider creature end up killing her? Because at the end, it looks like both of the other crew members are either dead or locked in the false reality.

The entire thing is manifested by Thom's subconscious. Both other crew members are already dead. The female crewmate is a manifestation of Thom's own doubts. Greta doesn't have complete control over his reality, but she can manipulate and construct scenarios from things drawn from his own memory.
