I really don't feel it was that until the sequels. The OT was just a medieval fantasy with knights and princesses, but in space. It was an old story in a new setting and it worked for three films without getting repetitive. The PT was that "worldbuilding" trope. Lucas sucks at romanticism which is Skywalkers entire arc so it suffers from chronic poor dialogue. But he took a lot of liberties in the worldbuilding (which I think was all he wanted). Sometimes it was good (Palpatine, Kamino, the Clone wars, Coruscant, Count Dooku) while other things was horrible (midichlorians, "the prophecy", kid Anakin). But at least it was original. The ST has done nothing and just tried to ride the nostalgia train without any purpose or direction.

Not really, the only movie that can be accused of that is The Force Awakens, and i think that had a valid excuse. The repetitive by the numbers stuff is mostly in Expanded Universe stuff, books and games, most of them just rehash shit from the movies.

Their excuse was "people don't remember the OT and we need to reboot it" which makes no sense. The OT is timeless and fans show it to their kids and grow them up on it as well.
TFA had no reason to be a reboot, it could have started off like Episode IX is with an original finish Palpatine off story.

Dunno man, Prequels "rhyme" but the setting is very different from OT. Plenty of games and shows explore different things that the movies didn't, some get really weird and wild, others are less out there,
Disney Sequels seem to need to shit on old characters, either by nostalgia baiting or by just make them pass the torch in the idea that they suck and the new guys are just better.
