Half a decade ago I posted here about an early draft of Episode VII. A lot ended up changing in the final product, but for Episode IX, I've seen a comparatively more final iteration of the script.
As then, highlight at your own risk.
The film is about finding something to stop the First Order. If that sounds frustratingly cryptic, that's because the movie itself does not reveal WHAT exactly the crew is after for most of the film. The Resistance is essentially defeated, and Rey has this big idea she claims she got from Luke, justifying it as this big Jedi secret they can't comprehend, and leads them on a quest to get "the thing." It's almost immediately apparent that Rey doesn't actually believe what she's selling, though. For most of the film it's a bit like the "rabbit's foot" from JJ's Mission: Impossible III: a MacGuffin for MacGuffin's sake.
There's a lot of bouncing from planet to planet, finding clues to the whereabouts of "the thing," with skirmishes with pirates, aliens, the Knights of Ren, and the First Order. Hardly any of that matters, and it's the journey that counts. It's like a fun road movie, in space. The core of the film is the bond between the main characters, on a desperate last adventure with no other options; a bit like The Goonies.
The MacGuffin is not the mystical superweapon Rey suggests it is, but rather something she learned about when salvaging junk on Jakku: it's the code base of an old Republic Holonet system, an antenna from the second Death Star, and C-3PO.
The film is essentially about broadcasting the story of Luke Skywalker to everyone in the galaxy.
There's the typical big space battles and a final showdown with Kylo Ren, but that all goes about how you expect. Even the Palpatine is more of a Kylo-motivating dark side red herring (it's a holocron he discovered years ago, which inspired his fall from the start).
There aren't any major twists or canon-shaking lore reveals.
As far as I can tell, "The Rise of Skywalker" refers to his name being known everywhere. A speech he recorded addressed to the ordinary people of the galaxy plays over the ending montage, which shows Rey training a new generation of Jedi.
Jackson Cox
uh space pirates are cool i guess
Charles Morgan
implying luke wouldn't immediately be famous after the events of ROTJ
Levi Richardson
>The core of the film is the bond between the main characters Good. The rest sounds shit, but I can support that.
Asher Wright
That's why I don't even understand what that whole plot is supposed to accomplish.
Tyler Barnes
But Luke was already super famous, Rey knew about him while living in some shithole, Finn knew about him living as a sheltered stormtrooper, Poe knew about him, everyone knew about him.
What you're saying sounds plausible though.
Gabriel Robinson
What exactly is the Palpatine's involvement? He's just a cassette tape?
Christian Perez
Thank you, that doesn't sound half bad, although some actual plot twists would be appreciated in this trilogy.
I hate everything new Star Wars....but I kind of like this. Its fun to think about. It keep preserves Luke's importance, but it also lets the audience just enjoy the fun of the new characters' adventure
Julian Kelly
To be quite honest this sounds like the best we could hope for.
Aiden Jones
Sounds legit and incredibly dull. All this shit to broadcats a story of Luke Skywalker. More meta commentary, it's just a movie, Luke doesn't exist it's just about hope and shit...
Juan Howard
its been confirmed that Rey is a clone of Anakin. One of Sheev's last projects, since he wanted a younger, non-deformed apprentice.
Nicholas Gonzalez
Right. Rey and Finn had heard of him. Han was all like, "It's true, all of it."
John Myers
yeah total nobodies like finn and rey knew about luke
Parker Garcia
>The film is essentially about broadcasting the story of Luke Skywalker to everyone in the galaxy.
This is so dumb I could believe it's true
Blake Stewart
Honestly sounds alright. I love the idea of C3P-0 being important to the plot. Kinda ties everything together nicely. Also, wouldn't Threepeo be a Skywalker technically?
Easton Cox
>All this shit to broadcats a story of Luke Skywalker. More meta commentary, it's just a movie, Luke doesn't exist it's just about hope and shit...
>The film is essentially about broadcasting the story of Luke Skywalker to everyone in the galaxy. This would be a hilariously shit plot
Evan Wilson
first a jungle/forest planet, and then a desert planet?
Jason Barnes
3PO and r2 were always the main characters. The original drafts were titled Droids. The force is also very strong with him. Theyre the heros and everything is happening to them.
Bentley Wright
Oh, so the title refers to C3PO, it's obvious now!
Brayden James
JJ has already confirmed that The Emperor is returning in flesh, not as a holocron though.
Sebastian Myers
honestly this sounds kino as fuck. The whole story, all three trilogies are the story A LONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY are being told by Rey/C3P0/R2D2. The whole story is pro-Skywalker propaganda being broadcast in the Star Wars War.
Wasn’t the entire point of Episode 8, including the scene with broom boy, the fact that Luke Skywalker’s legend had already made it out to the galaxy and inspired everyone?
Jack Williams
>The Rise of Skywalker >not Rise of the Skywalker
gayyy, could have kept with the naming scheme from episodes 3 and 6.
Dylan Powell
>they turned the entire saga of Anakin and Luke Skywalker into the setup for a bunch of Disney films that don't resemble either of the first two trilogies
I believe this. And it's the best we can hope for, quite frankly. It almost feels like an apology for TFA and TLJ.
Robert Bell
This doesny make any sense. So they went from shitting on luke and calling everyone who thought they fucked his character man babies. To now hes the big awesome hero everyone in the galaxy needs to know about?? What a joke of a franchise these nu wars are. 3 films in a trilogy that have next to zero canon betwern them.
Alexander Russell
What role do Rey's parent play in all this though?
scripts change massively over different drafts. this isn't far enough from how TFA turned out that it couldn't be true. if they really hadn't cast the actors yet at this time then it's completely plausible.
Carter Reed
>The film is essentially about broadcasting the story of Luke Skywalker to everyone in the galaxy.
And what about to everyone in other galaxies far far away?
Hudson Carter
And quite frankly, this thread is not inconsistent with
Jose Edwards
sounds true
It doesn't matter. None of this matters.
Gabriel Stewart
it's hilarious how incompetent they are
Julian Perez
>So they went from shitting on luke and calling everyone who thought they fucked his character man babies.
Are there screencaps of this?
Alexander Nguyen
This sounds like a fucking joke.
Kevin Moore
has there ever been a less consequential trilogy of movies
Joseph Jackson
actually sounds decent, but I still will never see it because disney has already tarnished everything
Daniel Morris
sounds boring as fuck, i´ll skip this movie
Liam Evans
you are a retard. looks legit, the ending was changed, everything else fits. this was almost 2 years before the movie came out.
Dylan Barnes
Too little, too late.
Lucas Reed
the whole "going on an adventure to find a treasure" plot was supposed to be ep7. wish they would have stuck with it
Owen Johnson
bumpt tyme.
Justin Williams
seems like both of the leaks kind of fit togehter
Adrian Howard
Too bad the main characters are shit. Who gives a damn about unlikeable, unrelatable characters bond?
Zachary Jenkins
even the empires grunts know about Luke >lets let the galaxy know his story
Eli Campbell
Good Disney is crashing Star Wars with no survivors, it's about time
So the film is about telling the story of the Skywalkers, forever. It could even reach a galaxy far far away a long time from now? Yeah, that sounds about right, and I kind of love it.
Nathan Davis
>the end of the saga F
Ian Bailey
>>A long time ago in a galaxy far far away.... >OH GOD
HOLY SHIT, This is actually legit. The entire Skywalker saga is being told by Luke.
Jaxson Reed
>tfw there's a universe out there where this is Episode 7, and the new trilogy opens up with this + maybe 5-10 minutes of what was covered in Force Awakens + Jedi) hope they like it
Benjamin Evans
>A speech he recorded addressed to the ordinary people of the galaxy plays over the ending montage, which shows Rey training a new generation of Jedi. Luke Skywalker: The Greatest Story Never Told
Lol why didn't you post this literally any time but the day the trailer got released?
Eli Reed
She's palpatine's daughter. It's confirmed.
Julian Jackson
No wonder Disney is taking a break from SW for a few years, they're jumping the shark hardcore if this is true.
Owen Foster
Sounds pretty ok i guess. So luke is still dead, we don't get to see him do any cool shit with a lightsaber. That explains why he wasn't in the trailer physically. Thanks.
Andrew Sanders
This is 100% right.
Christopher Reyes
>shit on Luke Skywalker and ruin his character >make fun of any fan that criticized the decision >Kathleen Kennedy: Goys! I totes don’t hate Luke! Look! We named the last movie after him! And look! We sent a signal story about him! Give us your shekels and support our feminist propaganda!
I wish everyone at Disney would die.
Carter Johnson
It's being told by Threepio and Artoo. They're in every movie.
Dominic Collins
lol so Snoke is made even more pointless
Jacob Diaz
I hope it's a quest for the back up of threepio's memory
Nathan Cooper
>the planet itself is the weapon it's real... I can't wait for the basedwars rageporn
Jordan Martinez
technically the holocron would be a recording of him so yeah it would be him in the flesh he does not mean in the flesh in your weird nerd way you dumb dumb
Hunter Parker
^this. Lucas said that R2 and 3PO were the sole survivors to tell the tale of what happened.
Cameron Powell
This all legit. The holocron is Vader’s helmet. Surprised no one has ever noticed that’s where his essence goes in ROTJ. Basically Palpatine’s essence has been guiding Kylo all along and he thought it was his grandfather.
Noah Reyes
I don't believe a single thing on Yea Forums ever but this so-called "leak" sounds actually legit. If they could add a plot twist it would make it actually decent.
Nolan Lopez
Doesn't sound that bad.
Adrian Russell
That already happened in ROTJ. C3PO is narrating the saga so far to the Ewoks. Complete with sound effects.
>movie ends with Rey saying "they'll be telling this story a long, long time from now in galaxies far, far away
Isaiah Gray
No ya doorknob part of Palpatine was in Vader’s mask. Like a holocron.
Luke Williams
Ahhh man fuck that shit. I am not even gonna see this in the theaters.
Christian Garcia
but who was Snoke?
Samuel Brown
>user copies Gundam Unicorn's plot >no one in Yea Forums recognizes it This is funny.
Hudson Morales
does this mean rey is marida?
Oliver Morris
Sounds like they're basically making the Book of the Whills canon.
Gavin Torres
>Be 2015 >user leaks TFA >”lol user just mixed the plots of Search for Spock and A New Hope”
Colton Reyes
a high ranking member of the empire who was difigured in an accident and sought to heal his wounds with the dark side of the force. in the long run, a nobody.
Cameron Perez
I don’t know he’s gettig a comic series or something. I personally don’t care, he was always just for Kylo to overcome because Palpatine was telling him to overthrow him and rule the galaxy.
Isaac Ortiz
This sounds good, how come we ended up with what we got?
Lucas Reyes
Have you ever seen the concept art for TFA? It could've been the kinoest SW movie of all times but instead they went with crass mediocrity and the rest is history.
Jayden Edwards
Yup this sounds awful enough to be true. Pack it up everyone.
Jace Lewis
This is the most 2019 liberal sounding plan ever, and is why this is probably the real plot.
JUST EDUCATE THE BAD GUYS ABOUT WHY THEY'RE BAD LOUDLY ENOUGH ON THE INTERNET AND EVENTUALLY THEY'LL STOP BRO
Michael Perry
>Mizzlewump !!IOH/04sYRcN
This was the original Mizzlewump whose tripcode does not match OP (fagot)
Hudson Allen
Sounds cool, but Luke is already famous in Disney canon as well as confirmed by BF2 story mode. I suppose they'll wave it off with a line like "they know his name and what he did, but not what he was really about!" to justify the film but it's still iffy. Sounds completely plausible though. I like the idea of the story of the Skywalkers actually making it to our universe in some way, hence the "a long time ago". I had a similar head fanon as a child.
Oliver Taylor
Two Disneybucks ™ have been deposited in your Disneyforce ™ accounts. Thank you for your cervix.
Andrew Evans
This sounds like damage control. The climax of an entire trilogy that is the end of one of cinema's most beloved sagas is...a McGuffin chase sequence that ends in a radio broadcast to the galaxy...
I hope this isn't real. After TLJ I can't imagine how they salvage this trilogy, but this can't be the answer. It's just such a lazy bullshit nonanswer. Maybe Rian was right. Let the past die; kill it, if you have to.
Justin Gray
>yfw the entire trilogy was leading up to an advertisement for Disney+
William Ramirez
This is literally a Russian propagandist. Take your UnAmerican nigger shit and kill yourself you fucking communist.
Jonathan Scott
I can see the "and that's a good thing" articles now
Kevin Martinez
>That's right, all opposition is just trolling. We know what we're doing, we promise.
>>yfw the entire trilogy was leading up to an advertisement for Disney+ Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.
Luke Lewis
I knew some dickhead would show up after the trailer with some conveniently timed leaks that are kinda hinted at during the trailer.
Before the trailer, not one person mentioned Death Star wreckage, Palpatine or Endors moon.
Fake news.
Jonathan Collins
>Daisy herself says Kylo and Rey's relationship is explored in much greater depth >Major scene of the teaser trailer is between just the two of them >This plot implies they barely interact Nah
