we DO have the techology, we have devices that can study the cosmos in radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, x-ray and gamma radiation. and with the recent discovery of gravitational waves and how they act as a beacon to astronomers for where to point their instruments we are going to learn more and more about objects like black holes and neutron stars and whatever else is out there.
