In the earlier seasons the cunts that do the costuming and sets and props took great care in making sure there was actual proper worldbuilding behind their creative decisions. They would ask themselves what materials they might have on hand and nearby and tried to make it sort of plausible along with the circumstances of what was happening. Some of the things like the stitching and metalwork is total anachronism or impossible for that specific setting, but the overall care towards aesthetic verisimilitude was consistent.

At a certain point around S5 they clearly made a conscious decision to start dialing everything up stylistically and you start getting shit that looks more and more futuristic and abstract and they weren't trying to make it connect with the individual settings anymore. It's almost as if they knew the plots were stalling and everything was sort of blending together so they felt like they needed to make the later seasons stand out more individually.
