I think its Thor who dies and it would make sense story wise, if he was able to just charge against the gauntlet and stab Thanos just by himself I wouldn't be too worried now that he's got the original Avengers to back him up plus Captain Marvel.
Thor doesn't show up at any other point other than at that first scene when Captain Marvel arrives and in the shot where they are flying the Guardian's ship and Natasha is still blonde. After that we don't see either Carol or Thor but I think CM its hidden on porpoise to distract the fact that Thor is the only one that doesn't come back from that first mission.
I have one plot hole in my theory and is that how could the Avengers have the Guardian's ship before Tony and Nebula arrive on earth? Maybe the whole shot of them in the ship is a fake.
