Post-GA has a different feel but there's a good balance between edgelord Guts and some more development when he forms his D&D adventure party.

All the comic relief characters take out of the serious immersion you had in the Golden Age arc. I like Puck in the first three volumes; he's fine. But next you get Puck, another fairy, loli witch with no charisma, and the kid - the other two in their party are fine though. It just feels so generic after something uniquely written. Plus Griffith gets all these random powered up guys to go with him. Just seems too typical and cheap writing compared to Golden Age arc.

I do think Black Swordsman comes off as very shallow and feeling like they're was no goal behind it aside from having some edgy guy kill some Demons, and there are some scenes I really dislike because of how much they clash with the character Guts would end up being established as, but afterwards it's great.

I usually defend a lot of the supposed pacing issues with Berserk as actually being fine and just seeming bad because of the release schedule, which is its own separate issue, but that was awful. I can understand cutting away from the stuff with Casca to build suspense, but at least cut away to whatever Rickert is doing or something instead of just going to this tensionless battle between Griffith and a bunch of nobodies he can't possibly lose to.
