It could pull an Aquaman.
im sure china will gobble this up it will make at least 300m from them
fuck this gay earth
It fucking hurts, but western audiences just don't care about giant monsters.
Those predictions seem off. Fuck this desolate, gay earth if it's correct though
hopefully ching chongs do something good for once.
It's a chinese owned movie so it will do well, legendary will continue Godzilla movies as long as it makes some money.
Its rule by now that everything that Yea Forums shills ends up being a flop, see alita and shazam for example
How many movies can you make about a dinsoaur smashing buildings
Wtf? That can't be real.
You're right. Yea Forums liking movies jinxes them in the BO. The same will happen to Joker.
>Might make half of what Godzilla 2014 did opening weekend
OH NONONONONO
It’s not fair kaiju bros...this franchise has been thriving for 65 years and capeshit dominated in fucking 12. The community is too old to even speak, what will happen to us later?
I blame this on 2014 being such a failure on the fight scenes. Normies still think they’re going to show Godzilla smashing shit on IPods and survellience monitors again
Strange how superhero movies and the ff movies make bank but not Godzilla, id imagine it to be the same crowd.
>thriving
the franchise has been dead in the water just as often as it's been successful. The majority of Godzilla's popularity has been through pop culture momentum, not the merits of the films themselves.
Whats the budget? Can't be less than $160m
oh yeah lol i forgot they got bought out years ago by china nvm im sure its going to make close to 400m now
This movie is going to crush the foreign market breh. 60 million in America is just to pay the American actors and the advertising budget.
>early box office predictions
>the movie comes out may 31st
what the fuck is this retarded thread?
If it pulls in even half of what its predecessor did it will be profitable. Also, don't count out the 4k market on this one.
Time flies user.
first one only made 77m in China expect that number way higher this time around
is it good or bad? seems solid for non-superhero movie
>If it pulls in even half of what its predecessor did it will be profitable.
Don't be stupid
How could it be that low?
better question is why does this thread exist when the movie doesnt come out for like a month
250 mill gross will turn a profit.
Amerisharts have shitty taste news at 11
>Early box office predictions
Why are you taking this stale shit seriously? Why does Yea Forums propagates any retarded rumor that pops up from some cleless bullshitter's asshole as a fucking gospel every time?
Western audiences gave Godzilla a chance in 2014 and it let them down. That's what it boils down too. 2014 wasn't even a bad movie but it had too much fat padding out the runtime, and that made the normies bored. Now KotM is shaping up to be what 2014 should have been, but it's too late and won't win back enough of the normies to succeed in the American market.
JESUS CHRIST PUSH MORE TOYS AND TEES FOR MORE REVENUE
FUCK
MAKE A GODZILLA COOKIE JAR OR SOME SHIT
normies will see whatever retarded shit gets good reviews/word of mouth
>The same will happen to Joker.
Not a chance. Joker will be Yea Forums's yearly exception
200 mil is production
dialog in the newest trailers sounds like ass tbqf
>the gonorrhea joke
>the beer line
>the working out line
how fucking dumb do they think we are?
i guess we will have to buy ten tickets each
mothra, king gidorrah and godzilla?
1b easily
Even if it just sort of does so-so in the US, it'll clean up internationally. This is one of those movies that China will save.
I don't know. What are we up to now, 32?
if it opens lower than Godzilla 2014 I'm done with going to the cinema and will pirate everything (instead of just 60% of what I end up watching).
I'm going to watch. It's going to be way better than any capeshit and I'm convinced it'll be better than any of the recent bad DC and Marvel films.
Godzilla's got too much baggage.
>Cheesy rubber suits and effects
>Bad dubbing
>Decades of parody turning the character into a joke
>Really bad '98 American adaptation
>Mediocre '14 movie
>Kaiju genre populated by other divisive movies (Cloverfield, Pac Rim 2, Rampage, etc)
Who cares? The sequel has already been filmed
>"My God...zilla"
I wanted to punch him for that.
Both Godzilla 2014 and Skull Island were garbage, why do you expect it to be any good?
If this movie doesn't feature Go Go Godzilla by the Blue Oyster Cult somewhere in the film I'm not going to watch it.
THREAD THEME
>box office predictions for a movie not coming out for nearly 2 months
I still don't get why they're treating Kong vs Godzilla like the big event for this series, when this one is the big monster mash throwdown with the "final boss" of the Toho monsterverse. It must be a normie thing. They know Kong, but have never heard of Ghidorah, Mothra, or Rodan.
Hmm I was sure this would do really good
Godzilla is gay btw in case that matters
They could easily have someone playing it in-universe, since Godzilla is a known quantity. Kind of like the asian chick playing the Spider-Man theme on the street in Spider-Man 2.
These predictions have me worried, I was sure it would be bigger than this. I've heard far more word of mouth among friends and in theaters whenever the trailer/poster is shown than Kong had, and Kong opened higher than these numbers. It should do well in Asia like Aquaman, but I guess I need to resist putting all of my eggs in that basket and support it the best I can here. There were some dude-bro dipshits snickering at the trailer today when I saw "Shazam!", but those guys smelled like actual ass crack, so probably slower boys, whatever.
I guess a decent critical reception could help, but who knows. Sorry for the monologue, had to get it out of my system, don't really care to engage on Box Office forums tonight.
>If this movie doesn't feature Go Go Godzilla by the Blue Oyster Cult somewhere in the film I'm not going to watch it.
user, I'm so tired of hearing about that retarded fucking song already. Fuck that song, fuck BOC and fuck you, go die in a fire you faggot.
Yes, I am triggered.
that would be awesome but only if it was actually a cover done by a Kpop boy band
Well, that doesn't seem so bad, $60 million is a-
>$200 million budget
Oh. Fug.
The general audience doesn't know about Mothra and Gidorrah. To most people the new Godzilla is a boring sequel to the 2014 one where he fights some nameless giant monsters
The general audience should be gassed then.
Neither were a million miles close to being garbage and the teaser for the new one is one of the greatest trailers ever made.
Another aspect people forget is that Godzilla will be competing with a big Marvel movie, and Disney will be bribing critics, sending out shills to smear it, etc.
no it won't, marketing cost isn't counted in production budget
I really want this movie to succeed, but it's going to need to rely on being a really good movie to win back the hearts of the normies via word of mouth and positive reviews. I really Hope WB/Legendary renews the contract with Toho after 2020, because it will be decades before we get hundred million dollar Godzilla movies or kaiju movies in general again.
These movies are absolute cringe.
I look forward to laughing at kaiju autists.
>woos and whistles at vengers flicks
Word of mouth will be negative on balance due to Disney shills
Fuck off amerimutt don't you have something with a laugh track to watch?
>predictions
i hate this fucking board
and set shazam already has S2 and Black Adam confirmed
Isn't the whole point of these movies that they're terrible but you watch them ironically to laugh at the pathetic special effects?
What's the point of turning into an actual blockbuster flick? It's basically capeshit without any of the normie appeal that real capeshit has. This movie appeals to no one besides the handful of manchildren put there who decided to obsess over the one thing more retarded than anime. The whole Godzilla franchise is just a 60 year long joke.
>>Really bad '98 American adaptation
Fuck you, that movie was kino.
>it doesnt cater to me so it's bad
not everyone is a doodbro like you, what a herb
>Fuck that song, fuck BOC and fuck you, go die in a fire you faggot.
Look at this guy who is getting flashbacks of the flying eyeball
>Another aspect people forget is that Godzilla will be competing with a big Marvel movie
Kinda but not really. It's over a month after Endgame comes out
>"Godzilla" is an iguana, not a dinosaur
>Doesn't breath radiation
>Is afraid of the military
>Looks more like a t-rex than Godzilla
>Babies are just ripoffs of JP velociraptors
>Gets fucking killed by jets
Nah. Plus, Matthew Broderick is a walking piece of dry toast, and the entire rest of the cast is populated with nothing but annoying "comic relief" characters. Yes, I know I'm parroting RLM with the last point, but it's absolutely true.
That movie's going to do a shitload of repeat business though.
Literally none of the greentexts are an actual drawback, it's just saying "it's different therefore it's bad".
Yeah that's true. By it's 5th weekend Infinity War was still making 17 mil and Endgame will be doing more. People will probably just be burned out and these two films share a very similar audience. If Aladdin cost anywhere what Dumbo did I think its foolish for Disney to release it when they are
i wrote a whole paper on the godzilla movies in college arguing that the way godzilla is portrayed is a representation of the current japanese/american relationship. that is why he goes back and forth from friend to foe and back again.
watched all the movies over a week or so
mecha godzilla is my favorite
>"it's different therefore it's bad"
In this case that's an adequate assessment of it. It's SO different that it ceases to have anything resembling the original character.
>Big reptile created/awoken by nuclear testing
That's the beginning and end of any connections it has to Godzilla. This could be a remake of any number of monster movies from the 50/60s, they just cynically slapped the name on it because they knew that would put the maximum number of asses in seats. They chose to give this movie that title, and they failed to live up to it.
Maybe you should make actually good monster movies then. Shin Godzilla made Hollywood's Godzilla look like an amateur fan film
Because Kong's Skull Island movie was actually good.
>they knew that would put the maximum number of asses in seats
I think you grossly overestimate how popular Godzilla was (or even, is) in the west. I'd be willing to bet the majority of westerners know Godzilla from the '98 movie only.
This. The name is well known, sure enough, but the actual storyline and universe isn't big at all.
It's certainly got more name recognition than anything else they could have "remade".
>I'd be willing to bet the majority of westerners know Godzilla from the '98 movie only.
How do you figure that? The character has been constantly referenced in parody and pop culture for decades before the '98 movie was even an idea. Hell, Blue Oyster Cult has a popular song about him, MTV gave him a lifetime achievement award, and Nike even had an ad campaign in the 90s featuring him playing basketball against Charles Barkley. That's just the stuff that pops up off the top of my head.
Any word on whether Biollante is going to be re-released on blu ray when this comes out? It's the last piece of the puzzle that I need to round out my Heisei collection, and it's currently more expensive than I'm willing to spend on the secondhand market.
yea I am someone who knew it best from the 98 film, but even before that everyone knew the name godzilla, everyone, I didn't know enough to know Zilla was completely different but i definitely knew the name EVERYONE DID
>what is Captain Marlel starring Brie Larson
>when this one is the big monster mash throwdown with the "final boss" of the Toho monsterverse
Maybe it's because in most people's eyes it's just Godzilla fighting random monsters, where as everybody and their cousin knows who fucking King Kong is and he already has had his own individual monsterverse movie.
2014 Godzilla was fucking good
They just looked at capeshit for success and started shoving in quips. It looks garbage
lol no
first 2 weeks are all that count and after that it's just a steady decline
no one's gonna be thronging the theaters for Endgame after a whole month of it being out.
>good
Yeah, no. It was basically Cloverfield but with Godzilla 90% of the time. I.e. shit. The human perspective storyline was terrible, and the movie took a massive dive in quality after Cranston died and focus shifted to his milktoast son and his family. The way the military reaction was depicted was also pisspoor and bland. They were ineffective in a completely dull and boring way.
SHAZAM IS GOING TO FLOP BECAUSE DC MARKETED TO PENNILESS, ZOOMERS. QUICK DC, APPEAL TO ADULTS WITH MONEY!
Godzilla has never been big here, and never will be. Ever. Nobody gave a fuck in the 70s, 80s, 00, or the last decade.
It's always been a niche for nerds because there is nothing sexy about giant monsters.
The 90's Godzilla was an aberation because it was basically a Jurassic Park fan fiction. Terrible film but it was popular.
Godzilla is just Japanese capeshit
>Make a pretentious garbage film where you barely see the titular monster for 5 minutes
>Why people don't like godzilla
How was it pretentious? It's a simple origin story. You expect Godzilla to jump in and destroy cities for 2 hours? Less is more.
>Early box office predictions
Why is this shit a thing? It's doesn't mean SHIT. It's a very dangerous way of attracting/detracting hype.
>You expect Godzilla to jump in and destroy cities for 2 hours?
Yeah, that's exactly what makes the original Japanese movies fun. At first weird shit happens until people discover what's causing it and then it's an hour or so of Godzilla being an unstoppable force of nature that wrecks cities to rubble while everything the military throws at it fails miserably. Watching bunch of G.I. shoot machine guns at giant monsters that barely are visible at screen isn't entertaining nor fun. It's boring.
