Honestly though it wasn't any more or less stupid than anything else that happens in the show. A street that turns people gay is pretty much the same as a random cult of 2 people that is beaten by time-traveling anti-cult of 5 people. Especially since it's all resolved and forgotten by the end of the episode.

Also this was probably the worst Jane episode because her entire character continues to be "These personalities exist but we don't want to discuss how or why or where their attitudes come from so we'll just have them say fuck you and storm offscreen.", which keeps her from being an interesting character.

If the latter, then I think it's more likely that Doom Patrol is a product of it's time, and that time is not 2019, but it happens to be one where the shit they were doing also resonates culturally today. Though, more directly, I'd suggest that one single episode isn't exactly the show "going full SJW political agenda", considering the backdrop of shit it's set against. It's one storyline, in a show full of ridiculous storylines. I hardly see how this is somehow the show going full-SJW when it's given exactly as much air time as fucking Cyborg trying out dating apps or magic cults.

I'm not even sure what "story" you think it's detracting from considering everything is so episodic. The overall narrative of..trying to get along with eachother and find the old guy? Yeah I don't see that being particularly detracted from.

My only problem with this episode is that the writers/director have no fucking idea to properly handle an underdog story arch. As satisfying as it may be to see the put upon, repressed drag queen agent own her own identity and beat the fuck out of a toxic white cis male patriarchal figure, it's bush league story telling.

Let's be honest though, comics aren't really known for particularly deep twists and plots. The ones that are even the slightest bit deep are the ones that go on to be masterpieces, but most are as basic as it gets.

I think more important than the basic-bitch writing is the fact that more often than not, the main characters actually are completely uninvolved in the plot developments. This episode is kind of exactly like that, because if it weren't for Larry physically telling the dude who he is at the end of the episode, the Hetero-FBI Guy literally would have not known who he was or that he was even there. The two characters literally did nothing to solve Danny or the Danizen's problems, they just did that on their own while the characters watched.

So we kind of just get to watch these main characters sort of be present while shit goes on around them and they're at best tangentially involved.
