At this point I feel like anime adaptations should side step Hollywood completely. I talked to a screen writer who did a movie treatment for One Piece and he said he tried to put in a scene where Nani gives Luffy mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to inject some sex and romance into it and the people at Toei wanted to keep One Piece pure of heart. Anime is good BECAUSE IT ISN’T HOLLYWOOD DRIVEL. These adaptations always turn out bad because these Hollywood suits don’t understand what made the IP beloved in the first place. Just hire cosplayers to be the actors and the wardrobe department and get a fan of the anime to direct. No matter how shitty the outcome, it would be way better than anything produced by Netflix or any American studio

Not only are live hollyjew anime adaptations critically shit, they don't really make the amount of money you'd expect from the size of their IPs.

What's happening here is that Hollyjew wants to tap into the western anime audience. They know how starved they are for any content that comes out of Japan, see how much Netflix profited from having subbed anime and now their own "original" series. Anime has been mainstream for the past decade, it's the "hip" thing for millenials and zoomers, and it'll only get bigger. HUGE, untapped market, one that's starving for any content, so they will keep trying. And keep trying. Until they hit on one that's inevitably "good" and that will give them the push they need, the amount of money Hollyjew has to throw around is no joke and will convince those old traditionalist suits in Japan to finally open up the markets and at long last
