Keep telling yourself that. Professional movie critics generally don't like to think about the afterlife. It stirred you on a level so deep you didn't think it was possible, and that makes you very uncomfortable. Nothing good is waiting for us after our lives here end, and films like Event Horizon defy Hollywood expectations and serve as the ultimate in your face predictive programming/gloating by the Satanic elite.

I actually really liked that scene, and I'll tell you why.
It demonstrated competence, even from the wacky comic relief character. He got into bad shit, but he was a competent professional, so he got out of it too.
Compare that to literally any scene in Prometheus or Covenant, where characters that are supposed to be competent actually just act unbelievably stupidly, completely destroying your suspension of disbelief.
The black guy was the comic relief character, but he was still a hard vacuum rescue specialist and knew his shit, and survived because he could do what we were told he could due.
