Given that the Apocalypse original was not only long, but also unusual in style and substance for a film at that time...

>Given that the Apocalypse original was not only long, but also unusual in style and substance for a film at that time, we tended to cut whenever possible not only in time but also in what then was considered ‘weirdness’
>I realized that just with that time elapsed, that the film was not as weird as I had thought, and had become more ‘contemporary.’ The avant garde art of the present often becomes the ‘wallpaper’ (mainstream) art of the future.
>Later on, once again, when asked which version I personally wanted to be shown, I often felt that the original 1979 was too abruptly shortened, and Redux was too long, and settled on what I now felt was the perfect version, which is what we’re showing at Tribeca later this month, called Apocalypse Now Final Cut.

Anyone else excited?

No. Redux was filled with enough unnecessary garbage already. Coppola hasn't made a good movie in 40 years and wants to make some more money. That's the only reason this is coming out.

My body is ready

He should release all the footage of an out of shape Brando stumbling around and fumbling all his lines

this is the only thing i want to see tbqh

>le redux bad reddit opinion
I'm sorry that you have adhd and can't properly appreciate cinema. Oh wait, I'm not sorry, live in suffering.

How much of this is in the 5 hour cut?

Watch the documentary for that.

Good. Sounds like we can forget the redux ever existed.

Longer isn't bigger. That's literally nigger logic which makes you a NIGGER!

>Thinks that cramming more shit into a film makes it better.
Do you also cry for a 4 hour release of Batman v. Superman?

Really?? Is he off his rocker???
The REAL score would be to release what we have on 4K UHD Blu Ray, THEN re-release his "final cut" as a double-dip after fucking the fans out of another purchase. Coppola blew his load too fast on this one. Sap. Like Ghostbusters 1 &2 just did with their upcoming second 4k Blu release with more deleted scenes.

The redux might have been a bit bloated but it was definitely not filled with garbage.
There are definitely things that the redux did much better than the original cut in slowing down the transition into the dreamlike state as he approaches kurtz

My only problem with REDUX is the French scene. I dont mind it being there, but it goes on for too long plus the sex scene feels really out of place.

I just want an even longer version, maybe add back the Monkey Sampan scene and whatnot.

the only good thing redux adds is Kilgore's introduction scene

>feels really out of place.
That's the whole fucking point.

The reason the playboy girls and french plantation scenes were cut is literally described in the op, Coppola thought they were too weird absurd and for the time. In the documentary we see they made the scenes look over the top on purpose to make the movie seem even more dreamlike and nightmarish. If you think they're garbage it's your personal problem, don't run around and scream like it's a fact, I'd rather trust and watch Coppola's vision.

>hey guise anyone else want a go flogging this horse?
Fuck off

>I'd rather trust a director that made four good movies 40 years ago and has only made middling wine since.
lolokay

And that allows you to dismiss his opinion on how his passion project should look why exactly?

four good movies is an understatement
Not many directors can say they made one movie as iconic as any one of the several that Coppola did

Yes, because I actually read your quotes OP, instead of the chimp brained "HUR BUT REDUX IS LONG AS SHIT ALREADY?!?!" comments from others.

It'll be interesting to see a cut that kind of splits the difference between Theatrical and Redux.

My dad will be excite

Imagine being such a short attention span moron that you don't think Redux is the best version. Imagine thinking it doesn't improve the pacing by making the journey more gradual. Imagine wanting the fantastic French plantation part out.
Imagine being that retard.

>tfw no verb dad

Hope they'll release it as restored 4K blu-ray.

>plus the sex scene feels really out of place.

KYS. They were based.

I once watched a 6 hour vhs bootleg at a friends house 16 years ago. And by watched i mean fell asleep as soon as they took their boat up the river. Did i miss out?

Coppola just stated that his vision is not the redux and he wants to create a version that isn't too long or drag like the redux does.

But leave the scenes. Interesting what will come out of it.

yes I love the plantation part. It gives the audience and the boat crew a moment of peace before the eventual insanity we witness

Watch it and make your own decision

>Redux was too long
Based

the verb becomes meat

>its judgement that defeat us

meme movie, no matter the cut.

Redux fucked the pacing of the movie and overall is A BAD CUT

He should release the footage of Lynda Carter showing her tits

pig fuck

Have sex

Dracula wasn’t 40 years ago and it’s awesome
