A lot of people here are familiar with city of god. You should watch this one as well. It has the most badass BR character (same actor that played pablo escobar) ever

are you 12? not saying this because of the film, but your phrasing

what are you babbling about you silly child?

What is this? The pseud reunion?

>brazilian film thread
>it's about either City of God or Elite Squad
>it soon derails into political discussion that goes absolutely nowhere
It's a fucking shame honestly. Brazil is a country with rich history and culture, and that includes film production, but even Brazilians barely acknowledge anything other than imdbcore and globo crap.
For once, I wish we could talk about brazilian cinema overlooked gems, or even popular films for that matter, that aren't just those 2 discussed over and over again.

then name at least 2 gems

It's not a matter of ackowledgeing other stuff. It's a matter of being realistic of what is accessible to foreigners and what they'll want to see.

CAVEIRA!!!!!

*acknowledging

I remember watching a Brazilian film about a kid who is lost and a middle aged lady finds him, she tries to get him home and that's all I remember, any idea?

Not him but:
Carandiru
O Auto Da Compadecida
O Cheiro Do Ralo
Tropa De Elite
Deus E O Diabo na Terra do Sol
Cidade De Deus
Central Do Brasil
O Som Ao Redor
Que Horas Que Ela Volta?

City of God
Elite Squad

Yeah, It's called Central do Brasil or "central station" in english.

I still haven't watched this movie for some reason.

O Cheiro do Ralo, Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol, O Som ao Redor, O Pagador de Promessas, Terra em Transe, O Palhaço, O Auto da Compadecida
all fantastic films
Central do Brasil
amazing film as well

Jesus Christ dude, obrigado Cara. That's Brazilian kinography right there

You're welcome, broski

I don't think it should matter what gringos want to watch. If they want crime films, sure City of God and Elite Squad are some of the best out there, but there are bunch of other amazing stuff from different genres out there, some of it also very accessible. They shouldn't abstain from watching it just because it's brazilian and not crime-related

I prefered the second one, but both are pure kino.

all these movies sound like foreign trash

The grid you posted has a bunch of swarthy ugly fucking spics looking despressed

recommend something worth watching please

Sorry, not falling for you bait.

>all these movies sound like foreign trash
well duh

Another chart I found

Not bait

Honestly, those movies all sound like straight garbage

Brazil is a literal garbage monkey town so im not shocked you think those movies are good

let me guess they have hours of characters staring soulfully into the distance interspersed with some shitty Portuguese being yammered away with that shitty fucking accent you monkeys have

Boy, you must be really bored

>enter thread where people are recommending and commenting on movies
>"lmao I'm not watching any of those movies, they probably suck"

Nice try

>brazilian movie buffs

Get the fuck out

Your movies are shit and only two of them have any merit

Ok...

At midnight I'll take your soul and it's sequence: Tonight, I will possess your corpse.

Absolute terror kino from 1969 that should receive ore attention. Coffin Joe (Ze do Caixao) is a genuine masterpiece.

I found out that Scorsese rates glauber

basão
Scorsese may not be the most consistent director, but I deeply admire him and his passion for filmmaking and film history
plus, you can tell he's a lot more sensible and knowledgeable about the craft and art than a pseud like Woody Allen or a self proclaimed film buff like Tarantino

parapapapapapapapapapa

>horror
>kino
choose one and only one

>strategy
>strategia
>strategija
>strategeya
>strategios

Its 1969, user, Different times, George Lazenby was James Bond for fuck sake.

If you want to talk about other BR movies, Central do Brasil should have been the movie to humiliate Saving Private Ryan, not Shakespeare in Love.

Fuck that jew, Harvey.

true
Oscars are shit overall, but it would have been nice to have a brazilian film recognized on such a big event
at least we have the Kikito

just namedropping is fucking useless
what the film is about and why you think it is good
NOW!

>same actor that played pablo escobar
Mfw I never recognized based Nascimento
Mfw i have no face

>no homem que copiava

I used to date a Brazilian that made me watch Elite Squad and a movie called Bruna about Brazil's most famous celebrity hooker, neither film was very good or left me with a very good impression of Brazil

Bruna Surfistinha is a terrible flick and only became popular because the main actress was hot and horny boomers wanted to see her naked
>listening to a woman's recommendation on film
never gonna make it

The problem with Brazilian movies and music is that they are too much associated with the government.
