What's the message of this film? When pushed to the breaking point humans will revert to their primal instinct? War changes the human psyche? Is there no message and I'm just over-thinking it?
I don't get it
The message is that when Brando shows up on the set 60 lbs overweight, you film him in the shadows.
War is hell.
Complete savagery vs ordered war and the hypocrisy that comes with that
Lines need to be established to prevent complete decay but in the end they can never be upheld
Kurtz fails to see the need for rules in such a place. ie. criticizes US mandating that curse words not be put on planes which dropping bombs to kill people. But he doesn't realize the purpose is to prevent slippery slope to complete disorder exemplified by his forest compound.
On the other side the generals want to fight a war while maintaining some sense of decency. But this is impossible as seen by events such as the boat massacre and the fact that they are force to murder one of their own allies.
The entire movie is trip along this spectrum from the general to Kurtz
The only solution: war is bad, don't do it
the movie is about the dangers of drugs and homosexuality. the river that leads to kurtz represents the human colon.
For some reason, the most disturbing scene to me is the one that got cut with the bunnies on acid
>What's the message of this film?
you can't right the word "fuck" on your airplane because it's obscene
The King has spoken, bros.
Howdy do I'm Colonel Kurtz, fat and bald like old Fred Mertz.
Did they actually decapitate a live cow or was it a dummy?
It was a real ceremony that they filmed I believe
that aint CGI, they really did slaughter a cow
A water buffalo was slaughtered with a machete for the climactic scene. The scene was inspired by a ritual performed by a local Ifugao tribe which Coppola had witnessed along with his wife (who filmed the ritual later shown in the documentary Hearts of Darkness) and film crew. Although this was an American production subject to American animal cruelty laws, scenes like this filmed in the Philippines were not policed or monitored and the American Humane Association gave the film an "unacceptable" rating.[50]
i really like this post
real. ypu can also tell by the cow eyes when it get cut. you cant fake that
>what's the message?
See
>Kubrick pretending to be a plot fag
What did he mean by this?
plot=/=story
i believe that he once said that the godfather is the best movie ever made
Yes it does
No. Story is structure + plot. Plot is just "this happens and then this and then that". Apocalypse Now has a plot but not a solid story.
I believe the cow scene was not specifically shot for the movie, its was something the locals were gonna do anyway so they filmed them doing it
That scene was great. Of all the scenes that made it into the redux that one really stuck with me.
Do I really need to see the fucking hour long French colonists segment?
No destroy any Redux copy you find
