Darkness is still consistently funny and maybe best girl even if she's the most typically "same joke every time anime trope girl". The episode where she was trying to scare away the arranged marriage suitor topped previous heights of her character.

Dude, Araki is a hack. Even when he directed Death Note it was dead as fuck production that only got hyped because the story. Look at what he did after it? Garbage over garbage, Highschool of the Dead, Guilty Crown, Attack On Titan, Kabaneri, all shit.
If you want real Madhouse Kino from that era, try Kemonozume, Satoshi Kon anime, Mamoru Hosoda's Kino, and maybe the last kino Madhouse ever produced before going bankrupt and Maruyama left them was Redline.

Now, the real Kino is Bones. They always got the chance to steal all good directors, first Tachikawa Yuzuru from Madhouse (he did Death Parade, it was great for nu-Madhouse level) to direct Mob Psycho. And then they have other kino director from Toei like Takuya Igarashi (he's been declining but still good director at least). Plus, Matsumoto Rie which is a true auteur and she directed this kino music video at Bones. (she also directed Kyousougiga, a patrician anime, and Kekkai Sensen, unironically kino capeshit).

I know what you're saying but I would personally recommend both.
No question EoE is a better ending, but for me things get so fucking weird at the end anyway that seeing EoE afterwards was almost like the characters had a second chance to change things, and to me it felt almost like an added alternative timeline that stemmed from the original ending.
But yeah, I can see why you'd recommend it that way, it's fine either way
