Who here excited for new Short Treks starting the 25th? What do you think they'll be about? All we know is they're animated but not in the style of Lower Decks.

so I caved and finally watched STD. Finished S1.

What the fuck is going on with the pacing? It's terrible. Suddenly they are in the mirror universe and instead of freaking out "hey we need to get info on the USS Defiant that has transported from OUR future to the mirror past". Like, without blinking they deliver this piece of intel??

Many other things like this are really grinding my gears.

The show isn't TERRIBLE but it's shit like that that is really bad. It's like they put in several seasons worth of plot points (klingon war, mirror universe shenanigans, .. ) and cramed em into 1 season. It needed more episodes and it needed to cool down with the plot points like wth

DS9 is somewhat similar to STD, in the sense that it is quite different from the prior shows and it would be better not attached to Star Trek.

Season 2 has better pacing, but it suffers a bit in plot compared to Mirror Universe. It's also lacking Lorca and Mudd which blows. Ash Tyler got better though and Georgiou got a tiny bit of depth.

That's their biggest problem though. They simply can't help giving themselves legitimacy through constant references. If they could have just resisted that urge they could have set the show 100 years in the future and had pretty much no issue syncing up with canon. Klingons/uniforms/ships look different now? It's been 100 years, duh. Everyone knows about Section 31 now? It's been 100 years, duh. Ships use different propulsion methods? It's been 100 years, duh. I mean, even the Mirror Universe. In the 100 years since Nemesis the rebels defeated the Alliance and reestablished the Empire. But they just can't help legitimizing themselves by recasting original series characters and shoehorning them in.

From the trailer for the next STD episode, I'd say Section 31 staff was all but decimated. And afrer what happened, since they created Control, their role most likely was severely reduced and they got defunded, to the extent this is possible in a moneyless society.

Fine, doesn't explain how people wouldn't be aware of it at all though.

Maybe it continued to exist since it is a necessary evil, but it went officially extinct and actually underground after what happened.

Well, to be fair Burnham is the not-so-Vulcan from the series. This was actually a good way to include one in the series (better than T'Pol in Enterprise).

No duh, hence the Gold uniform, actual Science officers wore blue. However, the role they filled on the show was as science officer. Kim has a reason due to Voyager's lack of personnel. For TNG, what person can compete with Data as a science officer? Any Science officer they could have would consistently be looking bad compared to Data.

All I did was overlay the Star Charts maps, which have been seen on screen in Discovery, over it, with them scaled to the size of the RSE and Cardassian Union on the Voyager/Insurrection map

This is untrue
A. The galaxy is 100,000 LY across
B. According to TNG, a 7,000LY trip, at a galaxy class's max warp of Warp 9.3, would take 2 years, indicating they could travel around 3,500LY in one year.
C. The above is contradicted later in First Contact by Picard, who stated the Federation is spread across 8,000LY, suggesting far faster speeds
D. The idea of far faster speeds is supported by TOS, which frequently mentions being 5,000+ LY from Earth, but only a week away
E. Its also supported by Enterprise, were the Warp 5 NX Enterprise was able to travel the 80LY to Qo'Nos in just 4 days, which would mean the 100,000LY galaxy would take 13.6 years to cross at Warp 5, and like 2 years at warp 9.

The whole "75 year trip home" stated by Voyager makes no sense, and never has, when compared with any of the other Trek shows.

In reality, they should have been home by year 3.
