They can't travel through time without a cost. It's forbidden magic in Dr Strange. They had to draw power from a cosmic demon in order to use it in an significant capacity. It also fucks up the laws of nature. But since Thanos had the magic glove with the other Mary Sue stones, he could do whatever he wanted.

The Avengers complain that the only reason he won last time was because he had the Infinity Stones, and he pulls them out one by one and smashes them to dust in his hand, proceeds to stomp the shit out of all of them and kills them, Marvel in a last ditch effort blasts him while he is holding the time stone as the last stone and blows it up, causing a shockwave to happen and warps them back in time before the attack on New York. Except they are all there, they team up, Thanos comes down to personally destroy them, its a 3 hour long flick, Thanos at the end just gives up and goes home leaving them to their fate with a smile. Captain America is dead, Captain slowly turns green, he's a skrull, what the fuck.

That's not established or hinted at in Strange at all. I was dragged to IW by my mates and thought that was the reason he just didn't keep going back in time until they successfully defeated Thanos, but in the solo movie he time travels like it's nothing, neither is it implied being able to time travel is related to Dormammu.
IW was a meh-shit movie, I havent watched every marvel movie, but the reasons for not being able to use their powerhouses in IW were pretty bad.
Vision jobbed to a blackwidow tier enemy, Thor went on a sidequest the entire movie, Hulk turned emo and Strange didn't use his power so they could set up the sequel.
At least Brolin is good as usual, only part I really liked was when Thanos walked upon the world he killed Gamorra, it looked cool.
