I think it ultimately boils down to them never growing up entirely and not developing a sense of accountability among other things, which is reflected even more so in their children's generation. I try not to fall into the trap of blaming them for everything as there were certainly a lot of forces in the background beyond anyone's control - maybe we just hit the point where civilization self destructs as it has so many times before - but it's still so goddamn frustrating to think about.

BoB the series and the book can be considered to be rather inaccurate portrayals of history. Down right slanderous in case of Sobel and many other officers, including fucking Maxwell Taylor. Ambrose as historian was a fucking hack and plagiarist. He specialized on oral history. He interviewed bunch of old people with grudges against certain superiors, including stuff that can be considered to be rumors at best. To Ambrose 80 year olds memory is more reliable source than archives. Even if it conflicts with US, British and German after action reports.
