What does Yea Forums think of the ever growing attempt of Netflix of bringing politics into their productions?
I myself hate it, i feel it kills the media and injects more and more hatred to our society, separating us by gangs of pro marvel vs pro dc, pre disney star wars vs post disney starwars, weebs who love anime kino vs main stream marvel pro monopoly trolls. this is ruining all entertainment industry , its not like i can go somewhere else for entertainment.
why cant we keep politics out of our entertainment?
>you need to detox politics out of your brain how?
Thomas Wood
They’ll be a bankrupt, dead company by 2022. Theyre overspending and trying to compete with Disney and Comcast. I wonder who will buy their original content for .10 on the dollar
Ethan Cook
Get off Yea Forums and following the retard herd that is /pol/ and their crosspisting
John Rivera
Please explain how to do this with out cutting all form of enterteinment, i mean every where i turn, either on tv, cable youtube, netflix, comics, everything is filled with politics, its really sad really
Julian Cooper
that article is almost a year old, when are we getting Barackino?
Thomas Jenkins
Supposed you recommend Reddit then? Since they are known for their neutral stance on issues am I right?
Colton Gray
We're living McCarthy Era again yet the commie jews are the one in charge.
Anthony Collins
>There is a black, gay, or woman character who doesn' even have to be a political character and you /pol/ crossposters are here shitting up the board
When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Stop being a hammer, have some variety of thought and focus, and stop obsessing over politics.
You guys have a pavlovian response at this point to even the most benign things because that is how you've trained your brain to operate through constant consumption of propaganda online meant to drive you into an emotional rage.
Daniel Brown
How to go from upper middle class to millonaires in 8 years, starring Barack and Mooch
Jonathan Robinson
Cool, Empire’s gonna be on Netflix.
Brody Carter
They were millionaires before that because his book sold pretty well.
Caleb Bailey
Politics ruins everything. I hate this era. We can’t just enjoy things any more. Everything has to push an agenda.
Jeremiah Smith
They are further turning Netflix into a spin-off for the Oprah Network at best at worst another BET or VH1
Samuel Ward
>politics doesn't influence art
Imagine being such a consumerist pleb that film is just funny colors on a screen
Elijah Lopez
why is Obama's smile so creepy and evil looking?
Kayden King
because you disagree with his politics
Ian Cruz
why is it everyone else's fault you judge every production based on the script and casting
Because its those "everyone else" who make these pieces of media increasingly more political. You cant flood teens with a new topic and expect them to be bored with it by the time theyre adults: it governs everything thats happening around them.
Cooper Williams
Filmmakers are explicit that their scripts/casting are all about politics tho. Jordan Peele is really up front about his racial politics, you're the pleb if you refuse to engage with them.
Cooper Flores
i dont like when politics are put in shows desu
Evan Price
imagine bringing up ww2 crimes over tv and movies
Cameron Mitchell
I agree with you. It replaces entertainment with hate. i want it to end
Xavier Scott
The red side gets its color from bathing in blood. Pretty sure thats not the way you want things, with how long everyone bitched about white priv
Jacob Hughes
You have no fucking idea what you're talking about. When people in a show are making Trump jokes every five seconds that's not some Pavlovian response. Get your head out of your ass
Cooper Brooks
When are Barack and Michael's shows coming out?
Nicholas Miller
no, you're a pleb when you think a show is just the script and casting
Lincoln Lopez
>people in a show are making Trump jokes every five seconds
watch something else, idiot
William Sullivan
Because they replace artistic ingenuity with some boring political opinion. It becomes noticeable when the cinematography, narrative, etc. is taking a nose dive all in the attempt to try and teach the viewer. It's like people think art is just inserting your worthless opinion into whatever medium you're working with and hoping that all the pieces fall into place. That's not how you make art. You make art by working within the medium, not bringing some alien viewpoint into it
Isaac Reyes
When will Obama show come out? I looked forward to memes form it.
Luke Davis
Do you really think the cast choices for the new Cowboy Bebop are ok? If you do, please kill yourself on behalf of the fans of Cowboy Bebop that want a genuinely good adaptation of it. I'm not going to watch a fucking adaptation with left stupidity ruining it. It's not even that politically charged as a series and it's already fucked from this political faggotry. All it is doing is pushing more people right.
Charles Ramirez
It's fucking everywhere. Shows, radio, books, magazines. They own everything.
Carter Nelson
>The red side gets its color from bathing in blood. You know why veins are blue?
stop assuming that people want to see white replacement in movies
Logan Ross
It’s tedious. It’s really, really tedious.
Owen Anderson
sounds like you're the one with a problem. You can't watch anything without current events or think saving someone's life, a common plot in old literature, is political
Cooper Clark
Because a script that boils down to "our politics: GOOD, yours: BAD" is pretty boring and stupid if approached with all the subtlety as a brick to the face. Worse if the supported view is fucking insane.
Jose Rogers
Yeah, because the election is next year. They're already pushing it hard.
Ethan Russell
Get Out literally WAS script and casting. Every critic who was praising the film was talking endlessly about its politics. Yea Forums is not making anything political, the people affirming the art are.
Escapism won't solve this problem. You either engage, or you're the bitch of whoever possesses cultural power.
Carter Nelson
I really don't understand pions like you. I really don't want to. I get into nothing but arguments when I mention that I miss how entertainment was. Less political. Now just look at Sci-Fi. Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who. Every show is heavy on the left messaging. Make the Klingon Empire Great Again. I guess I was just to assume that wasn't a dig at Trump huh
Kevin Flores
Yeah that's all it is. "Current events". Have a good rest of your day Mr. Goldstein
Luke Carter
Because he is the Antichrist. I'm not kidding.
Bentley Hughes
Hollywoods obsession with pushing agenda today makes me want to watch anime instead. Do they really want to bite the hand that feeds?
Asher Cruz
you're not smart by bringing politics into everything. Get over yourself and read more books and see that stories follow a formula
Carson Campbell
I thought we were.
Joshua Roberts
They don't care about people like you. They care about the mass majority of consumers of Netflix shows and whatever other streaming services. Those people like politics in their entertainment. They'll pay out their ass for whatever Hollywood shovels in front of them.
Charles Hall
Fool I'm not the one fucking doing it. They are. You have at least 5 other anons in this thread alone laying that oh so obvious fact on you and you're still not getting it. Wow with this guy. I even said, "I miss when entertainment was LESS POLITICAL". Even sports isn't safe anymore. Hell Gillette fucking razors put out a very leftist political add targeting men.
Luke Johnson
Nothing's going to change, politics from every angle is an echo chamber. Nobody changes their minds any more. Nobody ingests new information because there is none and everyone sees people who disagree with them as the enemy.
Logan Nelson
Hence why someone should blow them up. Tarrant was a massive faggot (and actually an agent.. but that's another story) for not using his opportunity well.
Joshua Kelly
You're not even giving a valid point. "Books follow a formula" doesn't explain the recent trend of constantly inserting current political topics into tv shows/movies. There's a big difference between engaging thoughtfully with politics in literature and slapping together an obvious allegory about the current political climate.
Parker Brown
>everyone sees people who disagree with them as the enemy. Do you really think there is any leg room now when they literally won't even admit the existence of Assange's leaks? (who btw is being ejected from the embassy soon)
Ryan Ward
Any leg room to do what?
Camden Brown
you're the one obsessing over leftists and bring pol memes into everything. It's not everyone else's problem, it's you
It does explain it because you try to make a basic plotline/trope into a "leftist agenda"
Cooper Kelly
Why does the left talk endlessly about racism? If blacks aren't being genocided, do their problems actually matter?
Owen Peterson
OH FUCK A TUXEDO FROG YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS
MRS OBAMA GET DOWN!
Ryder Ward
To even listen to them? We tried telling them and they never listened once. They instead covered it up. We've been listening to the media's drivel for a century and they won't even respect that we might actually know something they don't? Hardly. They're just fighting a propaganda war.
Jose Morales

You have ten seconds to explain why major media networks like CNN and MSNBC felt very safe tearing into a group of white teenagers for smiling wrong at a brown adult, and why they clearly don't feel safe doing the same to a group of black teenagers based on 10 seconds of out of context footage.
Juan Perry

The user you're responding to has no cultural power and no platform from which to affect change. How he views the media is irrelevant if they don't reciprocate his views.
Joseph Martinez

this is like Yea Forumseddit complaining about "moeshit" anime desu

Why am I obligated to explain any of that?

Charles Rodriguez
read the thread
Michael Miller
>Why am I obligated to explain any of that? Because you're the one claiming that the user is othering the media with his 'we' and 'they' rhetoric. It's on you to explain how they aren't doing exactly that to him, because they have way, way, way more power to dictate culture than he does.
Charles King
I hope you're being facetious you dope.
Noah Ortiz
Neither do I. In fact, its common sense and just being a responsible human being. But that's not what I'm arguing. I brought to your attention undeniable facts how left wings organizations have a strong grip on our entertainment and they way we digest it. Your response is to throw platitudes that's not even related to what Im talking about. Hence wiggle your way out. Unless you think you were responding to a different user this entire time
Angel Hill
You just got proven wrong. Never did I say "everything" and even if I did say that I clearly didn't mean every fucking show. Are you autistic by chance?
Oliver Jackson
Nah, you said how do i get politics out. Get away from them entirely. Your vote doesnt matter and whining on the internet doesnt either.
John Robinson
>It's on you to explain how they aren't doing exactly that to him It's on you to read before responding: I never said they weren't. I said everybody does it. This is why this shit is dangerous, you retards can't read anything without projecting your own assumptions onto it even when what you actually read, what was actually said is the exact opposite.
Owen Fisher
Oh shit no dude I wasn't that user.
Kevin Gutierrez
Why would I be being facetious? In the west right now, white people are held liable every time racial relations break down ever, and they're breaking down more every day. Sustained ethnic inequalities have resulted in a lot of genocides.
Ryan Bell
Most people are fine with it. As already mentioned the only one that is a bad choice is John Cho and not because he is asian, but because he does not embody a Kung Fu hip guy and he is too old.
Otherwise this is an issue of bad casting not leftism.
Brody Flores
You're still not understanding. It isn't about putting a political message into a show. It's about sacrificing a show in order to give a political message. As soon as you can explain why that's a good way to make a show I'll admit you're right. You still haven't answered that
Cooper Cooper
OK, but the onus is on the media and not that user to stop doing it first, because they have a lot more power.
Connor Thompson
Fuck that video for turning this meme into normalfag shit
Liam Ortiz
who are you and why are you replying to me?

Owen Reed
Who are you quoting? Is it THEM? Fucking hell, you are irreparable.
Blake Baker
wow, it's bad that means none of them should do it. Is that what you want? Who even gives a shit if like 2 out of 10 movies does it and why are you obsessing over it

Luke Cooper
I miss the Obamas
Anthony Lewis
Man are you fucking stupid? Read the thread
Andrew Campbell
that's literally you lmao
Colton Cruz
The people in charge of the left are freaking terrifying. The fact that they fearlessly call for the genocide of white people, and mock or call racist anyone who pushes back against it, and not only get away with it but somehow seems to maintain the moral high ground in the public eye, in majority white countries, means we are so fucked. Even the nazis couldn’t do this shit against minority jews. The leadership of the left is telling everyone, RIGHT now, their sinister plans in plain English and in plain sight. And the response to anyone calling it out is basically, “lol stop whining you are white you guys do all the work and pay all the taxes and do all the innovation in this country, so what if one of the main political parties is trying to wipe you, your family and your race off the face of the earth, black people have to put up with getting arrested for crimes they commit”. We are currently in the early stages of a hostil takeover and genocide, the people doing it are openly admitting their sinister intentions, no one is doing jack shit about it, and anyone opposing it is mocked, deplatformed, loses their job and social standing. They have already won, all that remains is for them to get around to killing us.

I'm not the user you're replying to, but do you think racism doesn't matter as long as there's no genocide involved? Were Jim Crow laws OK because they weren't genocide? Is apartheid OK because it's not genocide? Is every complaint about the treatment of black people in the west irrelevant because the complaint doesn't document actual genocide?
Jordan Lee
>Libtard >SJW >Discord tranny >Any other common mindless insult that avoids actual thought in a reply

No. But I'm also not the one saying that leftists "call for the genocide of white people".

Learn to think for yourself. Stop stealing insults from your 50 year old Boomer Fox news watching uncle. It's embarrassing.
David Carter
I really, really, really like this image
Jose Gonzalez
OK, then we've established that there's a lot of shit in between 'fine' and 'genocide'. White people in America are not currently 'fine', and leftists are calling for a lot of evil stuff regarding them. People are in positions of cultural and institutional power who openly hate on them and get rewarded for doing so. That's kinda fucked up, and if some anons on the internet get a little hyperbolic in their response, I think it's pretty understandable because they don't have many resources to fall back on for forming an argument.
Jayden Anderson
Yes Zoom-Zoom, everyone who doesn't enjoy your epic memes is a libtard.
Ethan Bell
user clearly didn't mean it literally you clown. There is a movement targeting at straight males of all colors though. Spearheaded by the LBGTQZYXBNfs whatever letter they want to add next.
Joshua Ortiz
40yo women > trannys
David Lewis
This 'deal' was the equivalent of politicians giving million dollar speeches after they're out of office. just a pay off for (((net neutrality))) which saved Netflix hundreds of millions
Jayden Gonzalez
Open your ears and listen to what they are saying man, try to do it without your brainwashing. You have been brought up to believe that white people are invincible, all powerful and are the only ones who can be racist, so anything said against them is both justified and can’t hurt them. But imagine when a left leader is taking about white people, that they are talking about blacks or Mexicans. The shit they say would be instantly labeled, rightly, the worst racism uttered in a century. At best they want and openly call for a soft genocide, one by replacement and breeding out whoever is left so in a few centuries only quadroon white people are left. And at worst well, again listen to the left. They want white people stripped of all power in their own countries, and they want all racism gone from the earth while believing that only white people can be racist, and always are. How do you suppose they achieve that? You don’t even need to read between the lines that much mate, it’s mostly openly said.
Carson Hall
>if some anons on the internet get a little hyperbolic in their response, I think it's pretty understandable You just said it yourself believing that racism only matters when genocide is involved is idiotic. The hyperbolic user is doing exactly this, by equating everyday racist attitudes and mean tweets with literal genocide.
Charles Carter
I can tell. You are really bad this. You can't even respond properly. Or are we making you nervous? Are you a femanon? You seem nervous. Tell you what. Timestamp with your tits out or GTFO

Which leaders of the left are saying all this?
Nicholas Cooper
so it's not genocide, thanks

Ayden Moore
He's speaking hyperbolically because unlike the left, he doesn't have a healthy, established set of media and acadmeic institutions to fall back on for forming his complaint. I'm saying his idiocy is a result of his culture not giving him any resources that it eagerly gives to the left.
because a literal genocide is the one that matters and just boy crying wolf for everything else
Sebastian Martin
Yeah it was a gross exaggeration. What are you not understanding other than to word play?
Zachary Wright
Sarah Jeong is in a position of cultural power as an editor at the New York Times despite years of tweets saying stuff like 'white people should live underground like monsters' and 'I love the suffering of old white men' and 'white guys should be castrated'. Can you find anyone working anywhere in a mainstream media outlet who has said anything like this about black people?
If not, the user seems like he has a point, doesn't he?

So when your lot calls me a sexist or racist. I won't take it to heart. See how that goes?
Nathan Gutierrez
What did you say that made people call you sexist/racist?
Wyatt Carter
Maybe you can apply Occam's razor here.
One criticism of Obama is that he spent too much time trying to be a celebrity which may be true to an extent though personally I don't think it was as bad as it was on the right.
I've even heard right wingers admit that even if they hate his politics they admit he has charisma even though they would turn around and try to make it something negative by portraying it as being "slick" and good with words deceptively. He was still filling stadiums during the campaign with folks who seemed to really love Obama and he knew how to work a crowd. He is a highly sought after guest or someone to hear speak still.
So, given this, maybe Netflix realizes this is an indication of Obama as a persona, regardless of politics and struck a deal with him to see if they can make content with their name attached to attract viewers.
You can at least admit even if politically you hate the guy he appeals to a lot of people in the way I described? Perhaps this is reason for the deal than some unprovable shadowy manuvering?
Charles Flores
>the commie jews are the one in charge lol

It's not just Netflix. Remember that time the host from the Apprentice got elected president?

It's a simple question. Why do you keep dodging it?
You're not some sort of deranged mongrel larping as anything but an election tourist, are you user?
Aaron Robinson
Literally vs Actually is the example you missed
Julian Perez
Correct
Adam Bailey
Mate even if leftist are not currently calling for gas chambers, they are calling for the following- mass migration of brown people into every white country, for white people to race mix, and for white people to have less children. If they get all the want, run that through a simulation(with worldwide population numbers in mind) and what do you suppose happens to white poeple? Leftist policies result in less white people as a percent(and sometimes in total) in their own countries. These policies being introduced in say Africa would be considered horrible. And if said policies would result in white people either being wiped totally or reduced to an extremely small minority how is that not a genocide, or something very similar. The holocaust, though far more direct, is considered a genocide and there are still millions of Jews left.
Logan Wilson
? People called you sexist/racist because you made a point about literally vs actually?
Bentley Campbell

read old books. watch foreign shows (even anime). It's not that they are devoid of politics, but they are politics of a different era or region. I don't really feel propagandized encountering the politics in Brothers Karamazov, or when Shinzo Abe is trying to make Japs breed.
That user talks like a soccer mom straight out of reddit lel
I bet her name is Karen
Easton Green
haha
Justin Hernandez
Are you being forced to watch the political videos? No? Then why complain?
Your question is equivelent to asking how I feel about politics being on television. "How do you feel about the existence of news channel?" I mean if I don't care to watch the news I won't watch those channels. Netflix is a venue for television entertainment across multiple genres. If sci-fi, horror, dramas, romcoms, documentaries, action flicks and everything else is on netflix then why should political shit be barred?
Jeremiah Adams
No, I'm just applying your standard for white people to black people and showing how fucking retarded it is.

Yeah, you are dense. That type of jab just flew right past you.
Grayson Price
The government isn't right wing at all. NPR is a product of the government. Universities receive state funding, and thus are a product of the government. The government is just a mechanism for enforcing state authority, and it reflects the people in it at any given time. The only thing keeping the government from looking like a college faculty department is the very rigid rules detailing how people with power are selected, otherwise they'd be indistinguishable.
Yeah, if they're so toothless, then you wouldn't risk having your livelihood destroyed for saying shit they didn't like while they protect people who say the Covington kids should have been killed with no consequences.
Aiden Perez

You can place the blame squarely on the rise of talk radio in the early 90s and Newt Gingrich style of politics in the 90s. A no compromise my politics must win or it must all burn down started then.
This was all during the years of Clinton who was all but a neocon outside of a few issues. If these individuals couldn't compromise or be placated by the other side through clinton of all people, then compromise is never possible.

You've had both legislative bodies for most of the years over the past 20 or 30 years. You've also had the supreme Court for the most part on most issues with a few right leaning moderates breaking away ocassionally on some cases. You may end up getting the supreme Court to be more right wing once RBG croaks.
You also have most portions of country through most state legislatures and governorships.
Nathaniel Hughes
Trump is not 'the government'. Trump, like any president, is temporal. Institutions that permanently push the culture in a left direction are very different from an administration that affects no meaningful cultural changes whatsoever.
I would trade Trump for having universities full of high IQ right wing people in a second. I suspect the left would never agree to that, even if they could.
Wyatt Lopez
The White House is powerless and negligible compared to colleges? Is this your argument?
Austin Howard
You must have gone to school with Ocasio-Cortez.
Ethan Peterson
OBAMA IS A FANTASTIC CON MAN, JUST LIKE DRUMPF
THEY FILL STADIA TO SIMILAR CAPACITIES, AS CELEBRITIES TEND TO DO
THE REVOLVING DOOR BETWEEN INDUSTRY AND GOVERNMENT IS WELL DOCUMENTED, JUST HOW IT WORKS ACROSS THE BOARD
FOR THIS INSTANCE DEM BENEFICIARY INDUSTRY COULD GIVE MULTIMILLIONAIRE OBAMA MORE MONEY ANY WAY HE WANTS, BUT IN MASS MEDIA IS IDEAL SINCE IT ALSO HAS AN OUTSIZED CULTURAL IMPACT AND HAPPENS TO BE AN INDUSTRY CORNERED BY THE DEMOCRAPS :^)
Isaiah Thomas
Wow do you believe you were just indoctrinated with in your civics class? So when Red states are fundamentally against abortion or Gay marriage. Its the government enforcing state authority? Really? You don't say
Isaac Green
>you're completely powerless to click the back button and go back to surfing through videos >because this is some retarded right-wing fantasy
Zachary Fisher
Is the Trump administration a vital part of the government or not? This is what user wrote >The government isn't right wing at all. And that's what I argued against.
Grayson Cook
smart
Robert Clark
Do I have to explain to you how temporal leaders create permanent changes?
Xavier Robinson
>then you wouldn't risk having your livelihood destroyed for saying shit they didn't like Literal white supremacists have tenure at universities. The cases of people having their livelihoods destroyed are usually working class people who get fired for being seen on TV at a Nazi rally. >they protect people who say the Covington kids should have been killed with no consequences Maybe because a lot of the people who said that (like Kathy Griffin) already had disgraced themselves in the public eye?
Zachary Nguyen
Every studio was trying to sign the Obamas. Netflix probably just offered the most money.
And presidents have been given book deals for centuries. Books are entertainment. So nothing has changed.
Landon Sanders
fuck obama fuck libtards fuck n****rs
Ian Hall
user, user, don't you get it? Having a mean tweet sent your way is literally having your livelihood destroyed :(
Oliver Brown
There are entire disciplines of academia that exist solely to affirm and agitate for progressive cultural change. There are exactly zero disciplines of academia that exist to do the same for reactionary cultural change. The reason why you can get fired from Google for not being a feminist is precisely because we've had several decades of places like Harvard giving degrees to Women's Studies majors and they've found their way into corporate HR departments.
Parker Martinez
If it's the first thing you see and it auto-plays every time. But it's just a right wing am I right? That doesn't happen at all. Nah man
Aaron Nguyen
Is this the part where you start arguing that only core STEMs are real science, and sociology, psychology etc. is for faggots?
Isaac Sullivan
>There are entire disciplines of academia that exist solely to affirm and agitate for progressive cultural change They're not exactly large compared to something like departments of biology, English, psychology, or other common majors.
Samuel Cox
Man the left academia. Public school, colleges and universities. Where have you fucking been

I've clicked on some Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro videos on Google and now my recommendations on YouTube are filled with all this "redpill" " triggered leftists", "SJW WRECKED!" Videos now. I have to constantly click "not interested" to remove the bullshit. So is YouTube trying to program me with right wing propaganda or is it simply a mindless algorithm recommending me videos based on pass video views?
Nathan Evans
When they are in positions of influence. And all politicians have to kiss their ass comes election time then yes. It is scary.
Julian Brown
>The reason why you can get fired from Google for not being a feminist
Chuck Wendig got fired from Disney/Lucasfilm because he was a hardcore feminist.
It's almost as if drawing negative PR to your company by being overly political is a valid reason for getting fired.
But no. It must be the feminists.
Adam Cook
You just cited a case where being a disgraced right winger results in institutional consequence, and a case where being a disgraced left winger doesn't.
How many mean tweets did Brendan Eich get? How many mean tweets did James Damore get? How many mean tweets did Roseanne Barr get? Or wait, did something else happen to them that I feel like you're about to justify as you suddenly want to affirm the will of the powerful? Hmmm...
Aaron Parker
You are an idiot if you believe that.
Lincoln Phillips
And as we all know the President is in no position of influence

Kathleen Kennedy is a hardcore feminist, so Disney must not be targeting them very efficiently if they're giving them creative and financial control of entire franchises.

>What does Yea Forums think of the ever growing attempt of Netflix of bringing politics into their productions? >why cant we keep politics out of our entertainment? They're a business. Whatever makes money is what they should go for.
OK, so suddenly it seems like social media and corporate media companies are really important because they can pressure your employer into firing you, right? So if they were predominantly left wing as well, that would give the left a lot of power to decide who does and who doesn't get to be outspoken about their politics, huh?
Christian Mitchell
And how many policies do celebrities and athletes enact? Remind me.
Benjamin Nelson

>People are lured in to mindless consumerism and disengagement from the political decision making process by expending emotional energy into what the Kardashians are doing >As a result true power brokers can operate more freely and make laws and rules that can have drastic effects on their livelihoods.
In this context, politicians and corporations are infinitely more powerful even though they are not the most well known and followed which ironically helps them consolidate their power further.
Jace Peterson
>You just cited a case where being a disgraced right winger results in institutional consequence, I didn't
Henry Taylor
This is solid advice. And by solid I mean really fucking stupid
Benjamin Thomas
If you can't see the general progressive drift of pop culture after the turn of the millennium I dunno what to say. Enjoy that center-leftist bubble you're in.
As a marxist, I'm pretty ambivalent about it all - it's pretty obviously a bunch of corporate overlords using their race wokeness and LGBT acceptance as a shield for their heinous fucking policies elsewhere.
That's part of the reason why the modern progressive left is so puritanical and fastidious - they're compensating for their lack of commitment to actual equality. They viciously attack the status quo when really their ideal is basically just "the status quo except with more brown transwomen in positions of prestige".
Oliver Bennett
>celebrities are more important than politicians

Netflix will collapse when their user base growth stalls and their funders stop funding as they don’t make a profit off of their original programming.
Liam Johnson
>general progressive drift of pop culture You know society consists of a lot more than pop culture, correct?
Shees kid, you got to elected first don't ya? Gotta hang with the cool kids to seem more personal dont ya? The photo ops, the rallies, the late night talk shows. Beauty pageant ephemera wins elections. Donors mostly control what the elected officials debate, then vote, then sign, then enact.
I know that wasn't covered in your AP civics class yesterday but this is how its done. No politician actually wants to do it. But it's needed
Jaxson Nguyen
Only in Burgerland
Justin Robinson
The point is that the 'customers' is a really nebulous term and institutions with billions of dollars and a big ol' bunch of power are given license to claim they speak for 'customers', and thus they get to manufacture a consensus of what does and does not constitute punishable speech or activism.
You already know this, you just like it because it benefits you.
If anything they will just maybe scale back the original programming. At this point Netflix is almost in every home and the constant stream of income from subscriptions will keep them afloat. Even if their original programming bombs the money can be recouped and the company will survive by changing their strategy slightly.
Netflix bankrupting anytime soon is a pipedream of rightist who view netflix as the reason why everyone is not 1488 yet.
Gavin Nelson
Answer the question. How many policies have celebrities and athletes enacted recently, I'm curious.
David Stewart
> (You) >>celebrities are more important than politicians > >Jesus fucking Christ is the zoomest thing I've read all year > >End yourself you genetic waste
Jussie Smollett's fake hate crime literally just got an anti-lynching bill passed, retard.
Justin Sanders
Zoom Zoomer Zoomest
Sebastian Young
Yes, but as far as the one we actually live in, it's pretty pop culture-centric. I prefer poetry and opera myself but for 95% of the folks at home, Marvel movies and Netflix are the only culture that matters and that's what we're discussing.
Tyler Sanders
>it's pretty obviously a bunch of corporate overlords using their race wokeness and LGBT acceptance as a shield for their heinous fucking policies elsewhere
wow. it's almost as if politicians have been doing that via popular culture since the dawn of time
Colton Rogers
I see you miss the "Donors" part. Stay in school
Gabriel Rodriguez
Jussie Smollett wrote and passed that bill? I didn't realize he was an elected judge in addition to being an actor.
Zachary Brown
he does what he wants and says what he wants, with no apologises
Brandon Allen
Culture is pop-culture-centric, sure.
But the point I was trying to make is that pop culture may shift towards progressivism but the rest of society doesn't. There's nothing progressive about isolationist/nationalist parties surging all across Europe.
Ryan Lewis
OBAMA WAS EDITOR OF THE HARVARD LAW REVIEW, A BIT OF THAT IS AFFIRMATIVE ACTION BUT NOT MUCH
HIS BIG DONORS ARE UNIVERSITIES TECH BANKS AND LAW FIRMS

It's almost as if culture matters more than the empty suits in office who enact legislation along the guidelines people with cultural power advocate for or something, which is what the user you thought you were cleverly rebutting was saying in the first place.
James Young
Let me get this straight. Celebrities and athletes rule the world and politicians are merely their puppets?
Ethan Young
No, user was citing an instance of a specific case having an effect on lawmaking. Which is nothing new.
Cooper Smith
Yeah, we've established that an obviously fake 'hate crime' shoddily concocted by a black guy who is happy to scapegoat whites has an immediate impact on the state legislature, and faces next to no legal or career consequences when everyone figures out it was concocted. That's what having cultural power on your side looks like.
Seems like it's kind of a big deal, no?
Eli Green
Not so black and white but I see how you would need ot broken down into that. Let me help just a little further. Ever heard the expression "Money equals Speech"? Well if a bunch of celebrities or athletes have over lets 10 million followers or more. Then they host rallies, or donor 5,000 dollars minimum a plate diners. Write songs and raps. Then personally donates a huge amount of money for access. Then that kid os influence. The Presidency now that we live in a such a celebrity-obsessed culture is a business agent within the executive branch for ALL the power brokers. Big money, Donors, Celebrities etc..
Tyler Cox
Again, specific cases have always had some influence on the everyday lawmaking process. Smollett being a celebrity has nothing to do with it.
Not to mention that you shifted from "celebrities are literally the ones in control and more powerful than the President" to "This one celebrity had an indirect influence on a law being pushed through the senate (but he didn't actually write the law himself".
Jordan Gonzalez
So who controls Trump?
Joshua Wood
I never claimed celebrities directly write law, my dude. Some other user might have, but I don't have to demonstrate that they write anything if they can manufacture the results they want immediately on flimsey as fuck evidence.
Culture is in no way disconnected from 'specific cases'. It's a big ol' web of 'em. And right now, it's really obvious who has the capital to influence these bodies long term.
Anthony Cox
>it's really obvious who has the capital to influence these bodies long term. Yeah, anyone whose case draws bigger attention. This can be celebrities, normal people, serial killers, etc.
Adam Wood
Super Mega Churches, Defense Contractors, The Coal Miners Association, International Banks. Health Care Industry, Big Oil Firms. Trump isn't exempt from it. He even stated he bought both Republican and Democrat Presidents when he was CEO of Trump Hotels. He paid for influence and access.
Charles Carter
>Your vote doesnt matter and whining on the internet doesnt either.
This user gets it.
John Cooper
>Yeah, anyone whose case draws bigger attention. This can be celebrities, normal people, serial killers, etc. And this attention is controlled by billion dollar media companies, who see to it that cases like Smollett's get the kind of attention that results in legislation, and that white kids who smile wrong at Native American for a few seconds are given the kind of attention that results in death threats.
Jason Lee
I guess you may have a point, though I would differentiate between control and influence.
Ryder Butler
>And this attention is controlled by billion dollar media companies People aren't braindead sheeple user, they are still very much in control of what they consume. The companies are simply giving them what they want, they don't dictate, they react.
Wyatt Hall
I cancelled it bc their programming is shit and I don't want to see this propaganda
Camden Watson
Influence is control. It's just a matter of when they get around to doing it. If its not done before the allotted time. Then they will take their money elsewhere. You need a war chest to run for re-election. Do you know why house members could easily buy? Every day they have to raise money. They have one year to come thru on the promises then the following year running for re-election.
Landon Williams
Captain Marvel is a prime example of that.
Logan Ortiz
Exactly, there will always be a huge audience for capeshit even though the films get worse every year. Because normalfags love it.
Marvel can release a three hour film of the Hulk shitting into Black Widow's mouth and it will make +1 Billion.
Anthony Gutierrez
