It's not that it's particularly good, it's just that the other video game movies are all pure shit.
Great theme song.
It gets the design/aesthetic and lore right, generally speaking. And otherwise it's just a dumb, fun movie with 'attitude' aimed at 13 year old boys, as it should be.
But that's wrong, Resident Evil 2 is the best video game movie.
Probably the most faithful adaptation of a videogame.
it wasn't boring, set up the world, characters and plot nicely, good cinematography and visual flair, and decent sound track
Good casting too
I used to rent the animated Street Fighter on VHS when I was a kid. My mom mentioned how much I must like the movie. But really I was just jerking off to the shower scene. I can remember it vividly.
The cast is surprisingly good.
They are all also clearly having fun in their roles.
Movie is cheesy as fuck and doesn't take itself too seriously.
Some of the fights are legit awesome.
The music is on point.
Only real negative is the special effects. Even when it came out, a lot of the cgi wasn't very good.
>They are all also clearly having fun in their roles.
sonya, johnny cage and raiden refused to act in the second movie because they thought it would damage their "careers"
Because the second movie was legit horrible.
Cage and Chan matches were kind of ok but the Sonya fight was so stupid. Looking thin woman hitting man size double her size.
even the normies whose opinions you parrot don't think that anymore. it's campy and cheesy, just like the first movie
street fighter is the best video game movie. mortal kombat is the most faithful adaptation of a video game.
It has Fear Factory on the soundtrack so i'm contractually obliged to like it.
The second movie is pure shit. It's in the realm of 'it's so bad it's kinda enjoyable."
The first movie is actually a decent movie.
The only two good scenes in Annihilation are the Smoke and Cyrax fights.
When I gazed upon you I knew you were my N-word. Mortal Kombat is a close second, and DOA: Dead or Alive in Third.
Except the fight scenes in Street Fighter are absolute dogshit, as is casting for most of the characters
>troubled production so they had to keep things tight
>no big egos on set except maybe Lambert
>Robin Shou putting in a ton of work on fight choreography
>everybody knew how not to make a vidya adaptation after Street Fighter and Mario Brothers trainwrecks
>MK was huge at the time so there was pressure to please fans
>very strong soundtrack
>since the MK game was a ripoff of Enter the Dragon, all they had to do was remake Enter the Dragon
Last point is probably the biggest positive the film had going for it. Enter the Dragon is a winning formula for an action movie.
The one thing that really could have made the movie better is a hard R-rating, and recreating the gore from the games. I can understand that they wanted the underage fans to go see it, but just think how much cooler it could have been. It's still one of my favorite films of the 90s regardless
Mortal Kombat is the best video game movie of all time.
Mortal Kombat is one of my favourite films of the 90s too, man.
>no big egos on set except maybe Lambert
Supposedly there were only a few early scenes with him in the movie due to the budget, but he really wanted to be a part of the movie, so he dipped into his own pockets to help fund the movie.
I completely agree with you.
watch it again it was completely and totally botched by the studio. you can't even consider it a movie by any standard
He paid for his own ticket and hotel in Thailand just to appear in the on-location shots. They were originally going to use a body double
he also paid for the after-shooting party since the production had no more money
So he is both the great actor and nice person.
>best video game movie
that would be postal
Exactly
Basically the "story" was so simple that there was no way to fuck it up. The only thing they had to do was make the casting fit the physic to role and not fuck up the art design.
damn he's based as fuck
It had never been hinted, or implied that Kano was Australian, but Trevor Goddard was so fantastic that the character has been Australian ever since.
>So he is both the great actor and nice person
There can be only one.

"Your sister's soles are mine!"
Based Chad Thunder God
Based.
>says he read the script and thought it was silly
>decided to play his role as over the top as he could
And hes one if the best video game movie villains of all time.
What? There's an interview where he talked about how important he felt the character of Shang Tsung was due to his adoration by younger fans, and he's embraced the role ever since, even now appearing as him in MK11.
Kano was originally Chinese/American.
But he was so good that Ed Boon changed the character to be more like the movie version.
He also said he wanted to play him as over the top and cheesy as possible. Why do you think he over acted almost every single line he delivered? He has never done that in any other role he played, just in MK.
>There are several easter eggs contained within the credits, including an arcade code for MK3 and Goro being credited as playing himself.
>In keeping with the above, film producer Lawrence Kasanoff would often speak of Goro as if he were real, talking about how difficult it was for the crew to appease him on set, notably in the Behind the Dragon special. He also joked that Goro could not have scenes in Thailand, as the government refused due to the devastation he brought to the country long ago.
>He also said he wanted to play him as over the top and cheesy as possible.
Citation needed.
>Behind the Dragon Documentary:
>Tagawa: Shang Tsung is mystical, magical, but also has that aspect of being very human. We're looking at a human being who through powers has been misled, misguided---so he's a god of sorts and he definitely gets his due.
Furthermore,
>A Journey Behind the Scenes Documentary:
>Tagawa: This character being different from other bad guys that I've done in having magical power... Really, from my own martial arts background, delved into this part that most martial artists don't think of themselves as magical beings. So coming from that perspective, it made the character really interesting. More interesting than any other bad guy I've ever played, that's for sure.
>Tagawa: I think in general, though, for bad guys, there is an attraction. I mean it's not only that you love to hate them, but I think there's a certain attraction that people will have toward this character.
lol no
>Jean-Claude Van Damme almost played Johnny Cage but did Street Fighter instead
>Cameron Diaz was supposed to be Sonya until she got injured and had to pull out
>There was originally going to be more emphasis on a Liu Kang/Kitana romance but it was cut to have more action scenes
Hmm
>but it was cut to have more action scenes
probably for the best
