A full cyborg has very little flesh to absorb alcohol, so it should be possible for them to get drunk on extremely little. A shot could be like 6 or more drinks for them.
The cyber-stomachs probably have some kind of variable filtering modes so that cyborgs who want to drink with organic friends can drink at the same rate and absorb alcohol less efficiently. There are probably similar options for other drugs.
That makes me think, the liver would be one of the hardest organs to make a prosthetic of, it does so many different chemical transformations. Many (or most?) drugs don't cross the blood barrier in their normal form, they are metabolized into a different chemical that crosses the barrier, alcohol is one of these. Cyborgs would need a real liver or something just like one to get the same effect from drugs as an organic.

Well, technically, they can't get drunk since it has to interact with their brain. Their artificial stomachs would have to send the alcohol to their bloodstream in the first place, and it's likely that it wouldn't for safety and health reasons (like preventing digested diseases and viruses from passing, so it breaks down the food to pure nutrients and sterilizes it).
But... I mean... high quality cybernetics that Ido create could potentially allow for a much higher standard of living, and track the rate and allow only a little to pass.

I finally broke down to the Alita spam and watched the movie tonight. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. The Hugo romance was a little cringy, but aside from the occasional poor dialogue, that's the only real complaint I have. Actually my biggest complaint was how anticlimactic the ending felt. I was disappointed when it ended, because I wanted it to keep going and reach a solid conclusion. I get that it is setting a sequel up, but I wish the ending was more satisfying. As is I felt it ended aburptly.

I've only seen the movie once, but looking at the details shown, it doesn't seem like Alita could have fully realized her identity yet. Maybe her purpose is to kill Nova, but there are some many nuances to that. The movie reveals nothing about Nova, and for all we know he might not be evil. She could just be an alien terrorist sent to kill humanity's salvation, for all we know. I'm sure he isn't, but her purpose is barely alluded to in the movie.

For me it's more abstract than that.
Really simply, her identity is a warrior, her purpose is to fight for good against evil. The entire course of the movie is to establish these things... how powerful she is, how she dives into conflict, what an undeniably good-natured person she is (so much so that she changes the paths from dark to light of all these people she meets), etc.
In the manga, things are much less black and white.

Volumes 1 and 2 are the weakest part of the manga, especially as far as characterization and pacing go, Kishiro was figuring it out as he went. The motorball saga in 3-4 builds up Jashugan as an incredible rival character and it only gets more interesting from there.
But even in the first volumes, there's some more depth to the characters compared to the movie; Grewishka is just an evil psycho without much dimension whereas Makaku is more sympathetic to the point where Alita cries for him after he's dead.
Also, Grew and Vector are kind of cheapened in the movie by being pawns of Nova. In the manga they act for their own reasons which is more interesting than all bad people being controlled by an evil master.

I like manga Hugo's backstory and I like how crazily obsessed he is, it makes his means of making money and the decision to climb the tube more believable. The relationship is less lovey-dovey and more a one-sided crush on Alita's part... which I feel is more fitting for a teenage girl.

I hadn't thought of it in so abstract terms. I think her stance of good against evil was well established. Maybe she changes the paths of people too, but that's most evident in Hugo, and you could argue that was hormones.
Even if the point was discovering her purpose, the movie itself doesn't seem to use that as the focal point. That's what leads to, what seems to me, as an anticlimactic ending. It's one thing if Alita was the length of two movies, and explored this more, but it just didn't seem self contained to me. A lot of things at the ending just seemed so abrupt. I get that a sequel will be made (god i am looking forward to it) but the ending just didn't seem satisfying.
I think I would like the manga from what I've heard here. Exploring the moral ambiguity of this world seems interesting.

The 2 other ones would be Ido and Chiren. Ido was on a path of self-destruction not being able to get over his daughter's death. Alita literally and figuratively saves him. Chiren's is much less developed but still poignant imo.
Alita: "Battle" "Angel"! She revels in battle, and she brings salvation to people.
