>Kumail Nanjiani ("The Big Sick") has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' THE ETERNALS in an undisclosed role. Sources indicate he might be playing wisecracking scientist Makkari, who can move at superhuman speed.
>Directed by Chloe Zao ("The Rider"), the movie introduces the Eternals, a race of superhumans created by cosmic engineers known as ''The Celestials'' and once worshipped as gods by the human race, and their lifelong enemies, the monstrous, bloodthirsty Deviants. After a centuries-long stalemate, their war is revived in modern times, with the fate of the world hanging on the balance. The Eternals are led by Ikaris, a warrior fueled by cosmic energy, and his lover Sersi (Angelina Jolie), a psychic explorer who relishes moving amongst humans.
Kumail is funny but I'm sick of seeing him everywhere.

Eternals is the first MCU project I'm genuinely worried about. If it's handled like Antman, Dr Strange, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel, it'll probably bomb. It needs someone in charge like Guardians who can make an ensemble cast work well, with strong characters, and a good feel for the tone and aesthetic of a big cosmic story like Eternals. I know they're going to try to explain Deviants and Eternals in Endgame, but without a good hook into established MCU properties, it will be harder to pull off. I'm really expecting a big screen version of Inhumans here.

Black Panther was a major Marvel character. They just didn't have a chance to introduce him until they name-dropped Wakanda in the MCU.
Black Panther was also released based off his appearance in Civil War, and his movie justified his aid and presence in Infinity War.
The Eternals really could fail. They were the more unknown version of the New Gods, and the New Gods was also niche. They also don't have much story material to work with, beyond Gaiman and Kirby. The main chance the Eternals could work if its a springbaord for Eternals influence in other comics, such as Makkari turning up in a Quasar comic.
Also, the only real chance the Eternals will do well is if it relates to Thanos. Thanos is an Eternal, which will be the only thing connecting normies to this movie.

"The Big Sick" is one of the gayest, most manchild titles I've ever heard. It's literally something a toddler would say to describe illness.
