>First written in the 1980s, his sci-fi epic Megalopolis concerns an architect dreaming of a utopic version of New York City in the near future and his battle with the conservative mayor, who has other ideas of the city. Contained within the epic are myriad storylines and characters with Warren Beatty, Parker Posey, Robert De Niro, Russell Crowe, Nicolas Cage, Paul Newman, James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Claire Danes, Kevin Spacey, and Meryl Streep all having been previously attached at one point or another. Coppola even shot second unit footage in preparation, but then after 9/11 happened, his idea of a NYC-set utopia was deterred, both because of an eerily similar disaster sequence in the film and the director’s focus on his smaller projects. Now, it looks like it may finally be back on.

Not pointing the elephant in the room
IRL wasnt it the opposite - new york was an utter shithole from the 60's-80's until the conservative Rudy Giuliani cleaned it up?
>Rudy Giuliani cleaned it up?
Was pulling out 9/11 part of the cleanup?
I hope he pulls it off. He needs one last great movie to sign off on. Anyone that’s listened to his commentaries knows that he seems like a good guy.
He wasn't that fat user
he kicks the bucket before it is ever completed, calling it now
>he kicks the bucket before it is ever completed, calling it now
George Lucas finishe the movie.
“having been previously attached”
ikr the reading comprehension of these kids
>Both because of an eerily similar disaster sequence in the film
Do you think he had prior knowledge like Aaron Russo?
Dracula was as good as his 70s work
>good guy
>being friends with a convicted pedo
redice.tv
Half the cast is dead, retired or old.
I like Dracula a lot but it’s not close to his 70s work. The performances alone take it down a peg.
I thought he had died in the early 00s
Being a pedo wasn't illegal in the 70s
It was the 70s. Everyone was high on coke and raping kids
>>being friends with a convicted pedo
tf i love coppola now
the guy cannot make a little movie like TETRO and will pull this up? now? this old?
the same guy who cried like a pussy abouyt how hard was apocalipse now and that the future should be fat ohio girls doing movies on cheap cameras?
this guy?
really, coppolla career drops quality in such a way that i dont know if it was the guy or the people around him.
compare him to david lynch: lynch has a style, themes that are always there.
this guy does, somehow, the greatest mafia and war movie ever and them... jack? tetro? some horror flick that was so embrassing that everyone pretend it doesnt exist?
only some neurological explanation would make sense, a stroke, some shit like that.
He should've died in the 80s and spare himself and his New Hollywood friends the total embarassment.
Don't forget Supernova. The weirdest thing is that I feel like Coppola convinced George Lucas to retire, and now he's making a blockbuster movie. Strange times.
dracula is as good as his 70s shit
lynch my ass. lynch killed cinema and surrealism forever because of hipsters
coppola > lynch
he was dead on about fat chicks on cheap cameras that directly predicted the youtube age. youtubers are getting more views than hollywood with a single vlog
tetro wasnt so bad
I mean your prob is you are trapped in the auteur mindset. coppola never stopped making kinos. the tim roth one was good too. dude is a sincere director not an auteur
reason I hype dracula so much is its so creative, I think the key to understanding ffc is that he is like opera, or theater, he isn't one of these auteurs with a brand it will always be about the performance, the story, the show
Maybe, but having an un-animated gif is illegal right now.
sounds a lot like Ayn Rand's Fountainhead-- especially with a disaster sequence involving a collapsing tower.
>Rudy Giuliani cleaned it up
He sold Manhattan to the corporations, they donated to city hall and greased the wheels then kicked all the middle-class and below people into the outer Burroughs.
Is the island 'cleaned up?' I guess you could say that. But the burroughs are a fucking warzone and city hall fudges the numbers to keep real estate prices high.
I taught Pajeets with better English comprehension
>liberal architect dreamer overthrowing EBUL CONSERVATIVES
well color me surpirsed
Coppola has never come close to topping the first two Godfather films. Apocalypse Now is beautiful and dreamy but the ending is a pile of shit, and Aguirre is much better with a much smaller budget. The Conversation is neat, but ridiculously overrated with a Shyamalan-tier twist that does nothing to make the movie any deeper.
His inability to let go of his former success is even more embarrassing than Schwarzenegger at this point.
Commies aren't good guys. They aren't even people to begin with.
basically, thats it.
all he did after the fisher king if garbage at the point that i have to ask if it was him.
its like oliver stone: you watch JFK and NATURAL BORN KILLERS and its fucking cool stuff, crazy editing, JFK has this pacing that make the movie looks short when have more than three hours. amazing stuff.
them the starts to do so much shit again and again that youve gotta ask: 'ok, was it him?'
movies are a complex thing, the director at the end just stamp his name there, but who knows who are the real people behind it. its like STAR WARS and lucas ex wife: she fucking save the movie on the editing room.
the recognition for it? borderline none. won the oscar of that year, but she is a sidenote now.
ok, sofia, go to sleep.
and yes, david lynch is terrible because of the fans, his first movie is from 1977, bunch of shorts before that, but those damn HIPSTERS.
nice.
the entire world's crime dropped too
it wasn't the work of one man in new york
Based and redpilled
>its like STAR WARS and lucas ex wife: she fucking save the movie on the editing room.
Not this meme again. NO FILM WAS EVER SAVED IN EDITING. Do you really believe Lucas wrote and shot the whole movie but it was awful until his cunt of a wife edited it the right way? Everytime a movie is not satisfying to the producer they don't jest edit back, they reshoot scenes. George had 3 editors, 2 guys and his wife, and she left for another movie before it wasn't even finished. And guess what, George gives instructions to the editors. Now if Marcia was good, why didn't she make anything ever?
David lynch actually is shit, he is only popular because of hipsters.
Lynch saved surrealism
>he was dead on about fat chicks on cheap cameras that directly predicted the youtube age. youtubers are getting more views than hollywood with a single vlog
I didn't realize the biggest youtubers were fat chicks doing experimental films...
isn't New York already a diverse multicultural utopia?
You mean dystopia?
it is impressive how consistently wrong you are about everything
you are like the total opposite
reverse your opinion and you are right about everything
No, I mean utopia, incel.
he saved surrealism for david lynch. he hijacked it pretty much into his own big mac brand. now anything weird just draws comparisons to david lynch inevitably.
>one day a computer will come out that will play a thousand songs in your pocket
>but an ipod is an mp3 player not a computer
srsly, the underground experimental film world in the 70s, 80s, werent unlike these bullshit youtube things by neistat and the other douchebags
i always thought the apocalypse now sadboy suicide shit was a little bit of a LARP but clearly something’s off with him since then. it was trendy in arthouse circles to pretend cotton club was a good movie for a while. shit was embarrasing.
seems like a nice guy though.
agree with this, I can see why they might think they lucked out because the editing is so pitch perfect. but if you see george lucas's work leading up, and the fact he directed it, there is not a bit of it thats an accident
The version that I always saw posted on here until it got Chinese telephoned was that his wife got him to tone down some of the kid-friendly characters like Yoda and the Ewoks so that they weren't Jar-Jar-tier.
You understand.
>people who have never been to NY in their life actually believe this
Yes. Libtards turned it into a shithole. Rudy fixed it. Now it's back to a shithole again. But "conservatives" are to blame. Just like they ruined Seattle and San Francisco. Two hotbeds of rabid "conservatism". Oops, I mean: Orange Man Bad, Death To Nazis, and Fuck My Mangina. Please don't downvote me.
Drumpf is from there which is convincing enough for me sweetie
You're thinking of Sophia Coppola
its garbage like every big coastal city
I spent four years there, the only people who don't think NY is a shithole are people who've never been there or people who've never left
>Seattle and San Francisco
>ruined by lefties
Downtown San Francisco is literally anarchist-capitalism run by corporate technocrats and Seattle is one of the last places in America where you can pick up a blue collar job cutting timber and earn a living wage.
