>The preview begins with cyber-enhanced warrior Grace (Mackenzie Davis) arriving from the future right into the Mexico City bridge, causing several cars to crash and landing naked in front of a teenage couple. Believing her to be injured, the couple attempts to help, only to be accosted by a pair of policemen who happen upon the scene and mistakenly assume the couple is assaulting someone. When one of the cops shines his flashlight on Grace's face, her instincts kick in and she swiftly - and brutally - dispatches the officers, saving the young couple... Then proceeds to steal the young man's clothes and car, leaving the couple stranded and bickering.
>The next scene sees Grace and Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes), a young auto-mechanic caught up in Grace's mission, back on the Mexico City Bridge, fleeing from the new Terminator (Gabriel Luna), who has the ability to split into two. The copy throws a spear at them, which Grace catches hands it to Dani, urging Dani to run while the Terminators are busy killing her. But before they can strike, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) arrives in a truck and blows the Terminator away with a bazooka. Dani incredulously asks "Who the fuck is that?", and Grace doesn't appear to know.
>What follows is a montage of action scenes, including a more human-looking Grace fighting in the war-torn future, and culminating with Sarah and the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) back to back, firing at unseen enemies.

Nothing after T2 has added anything good to the story. T3 just a rehash of 2 and at the same time made 2 obsolete. Salvation completely changed the look and feel of war in a nuclear wasteland like we were used to seeing in Reese's flashbacks and footage shown in T2 and it didn't feel like a terminator movie. Genesis was just fucking dumb all around and had some forced new lore to be able to have old ass Arnie appear and was somehow able two shit on ALL the previous movies in one swoop.

The movie revolves around the idea that although Sarah and John prevented Judgement Day, a new cataclysm has led to a new future where Earth is controlled by Skynet under different circunstances. Grace is back on a mission to prevent it that doesn't involve the Connors at all, so much that she has no idea who Sarah is.
Dani Ramos is the new savior of mankind that must be protected.

Yea. I would've rather they continue the war stuff with Bale than genisys. They could've added in the plasma rifles and night missions being the only way to fight. Skynet was actually technically benevolent and enacting it's genocide in the name of saving humanity. It had calculated humanity would drive itself extinct and enacted a plan to cull it down to a sustainable smaller population that it would grant virtual immortality and freedom from pain/bad feelings etc through making them human-terminator hybrids like Marcus
John Connor would unambiguously have been killed at the end of the movie, and his wife and what was left of the resistance leadership would have his face transplanted onto Marcus (it would be how Old Connor got the scars) and Marcus would assume leadership of the resistance in John's place.
Skynet believed it was humanities salvation. Marcus, a Terminator, was actually humanities salvation. Thus, Terminator Salvation.

The big sticking point for Bale was that his role as Connor would have originally be what ended up as Michael Ironside in the final movie.
He was leader of the resistance but so paranoid of assassination that he lived on that submarine permanently and commanded humanity remotely.
So they could pull the Marcus/John switch without question because nobody but the inner circle even know what John looked like. Everybody else was like Reese who only ever heard his radio broadcasts. Also those tapes from Sarah existed to teach Marcus how to be John.
