Let's have a thread about Blu-Rays (or home video releases in general)

>What have you picked up recently?

>What releases are you looking forward to this year?

Also share your kinocollection if you're brave enough. Streamlets need not apply.

What's that one hidden gem you're hoping will get a Blu-ray release one day?

Attached: 51BW45S6Y6L._SY445_.jpg (315x445, 34K)

Based digitards with their compressed shit and streaming subscription. I cant wait for the highwaymen to come to blu ray.

I recently picked up into the spiderverse and brawl in cell block 99

Not really all hidden gems but;

Come & See
Clean, Shaven
Pusher Trilogy
Bringing Out the Dead

Attached: pusher_ii_fr.jpg (572x800, 73K)

COME AND SEE GODDAMNIT THAT SHITTY COLOR CORRECTED BLURRY JAPAN ENCODE IS DOGSHIT CMON YOU MOSFILM FUCKERS GIVE THE RIGHTS ALREADY

any rare (as in not mentioned a lot) blurays you guys would rec? I rarly ever buy the newer films so I just pick up older or foreign ones. I recently picked up lots of sion sono movies, the Russian ark and beauty and the beast with lea soudoux(?) in it. I just recently was really into nature docs

Spiderverse and Aquachad, are my most recent

This one's a real puzzler. I saw the 2017 restoration in theater and it's fucking stunning (the improvement was made even more apparent when the print crapped out 4/5 of the way in and had to be swapped with a DVD instead). I dunno why it's taken so long to get a Blu-Ray, maybe some licensing restrictions on Mosfilms' part?

I've seen a lot about Sono lately having never heard of him before, where you would recommend starting with him?

Suicide Circle and Love Exposure are good starting points. Exte is a decent horror Flick too

>where you would recommend starting with sono
I started with "why don't you play" and I thought it was okay. then I watched Tokyo tribe and I liked it a lot, I would start with that. love exposure is also pretty good. didn't like "tag" too much, coldfish is good as well.
just a heads up, the trailers for his films do not do them justice

I picked up the X men prequel trilogy a few days ago. Waste of money.
Only Apocalypse is worth the 4k upgrade and the movie is just mediocre.
Also got saving private ryan, looks damn good.
Going to pick up Jurassic World FK, Die Hard and Logan in 4k this week.
Also want to get Fury Road. Anyone have this? I hear HDR makes some considerable changes on this title. Better or worse?

Attached: stuff.jpg (979x1011, 392K)

The capeshit movies are recent pickups btw. Man of Steel's Krypton scenes are stunning.

>one of the blu-ray extras is a sneak peek for an upcoming related film at the time

Attached: 1551956601064.jpg (224x225, 6K)

I just picked up bushwick i love that it's an action survival horror movie done in one continuous shot

Some new blu-rays

JL Snyder Cut in 4K UHD with the Alex Ross inspired cover art.

My Criterion and UHD collection

Attached: 1539605707044.jpg (1024x768, 165K)

Sounds like Love Exposure it is, thanks dudes.
Also I didn't know he did the Tokyo Tribes adaptation, I read some of the manga years ago.

No worries on the trailers end, I generally avoid them when I can anyway

You'd think that shit would've died by now, at least with DVDs

I am a college fag please rape my face?

Gd, Adam owns so much meme movies

Just bought hacksaw ridge in 4k and heat on blu ray. Looking forward to the Blackhawk down 4k that's coming out soon.

Attached: image.jpg (506x640, 65K)

Just got this. First time watching the show I love it so far.

Attached: image.jpg (311x445, 39K)

I was gonna buy the Heat BR recently but saw a 35mm print screening and the Blu by comparison was sapped of all colour and life, really disappointing. Of course that was Mann's own decision, but not one I agree with

Was it the original Blu-Ray or the newer remastered one?

last things i bought were neon maniacs and ring steelbook. looking forward to hard ticket to hawaii, malibu express and alien 4k.

>hard ticket to hawaii, malibu express
me too

Jack the Giant Killer. Also The Abyss, though that one isn't a hidden gem and is stuck in Blu-ray limbo. Thanks, Cameron.

True Lies

I got
>Suspiria 2018
>Suspiria 1977
>Possession
>The Blackcoat's Daughter

Can we all admit this art is terrible?

Small Soldiers. There's foreign releases but they don't look too good.

Attached: Capture.jpg (177x952, 48K)

Mysterious Island
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad

>buying new

Attached: 1447041293227.jpg (1200x1802, 193K)

Hot point of contention, this one. I bought it on release and have watched it through (and the show itself probably a half dozen times). Lots of great special features. I don't know how far in you are so I won't spoil it, but there's a scene in a season three episode that was cut down a lot for this release (as well as the Hulu version). Shawn Ryan has been back-and-forthing with Sony over it, and apparently it wasn't intentional censorship but rather they accidentally printed the European version of that episode. He's trying to see what can be done about it. Hopefully Mill Creek presses new discs and sends a replacement to those who bought the set. One of my top five shows.

>being a poorfag

Attached: 1476062758118.jpg (256x256, 8K)

Yup, just lazy and uninspired. Who thinks of big white spaces when you hear Batman anyway?

Also I didn't realize Small Soldiers was without BR, that sucks. Lot of fantastic puppetry and designs in that

>Alien 4k
Nice, I saw it in cinema a few weeks ago and it looked fucking incredible. The Nostromo interiors had so much depth and texture, almost palpable at times

The newly remastered one I think? I'd have to check but it was definitely a release overseen by Mann

This issue was fixed in the Director's Definitive Edition of the Blu-ray.

Stuff coming out this year I'm definitely picking up;

>Scum 40th Anniversary Edition
>Blue Spring
>Jin Roh Ultimate Collector's Edition
>Dekalog reprint

>giving things the chance to sell out
>not supporting niche distributors so they continue releasing

Attached: scumindicator.png (720x900, 1.03M)

I've been slowly building my collection, upgrading from DVD to Blu-ray. I've got my top five shows most importantly.

The Sopranos
The Shield
The Wire
True Detective season one
Breaking Bad

Some of my favorite films I've added:

Heat
No Country for Old Men
Goodfellas
Casino
Clash of the Titans
Glengarry Glen Ross
The Thing
Scarface
The Lord of the Rings Extended
Many others I'm not remembering

I've been ripping and encoding for years, definitely a hobby of mine that takes some fine tuning. I really enjoy it.

Doesn't Clean, Shaven have a criterion blu-ray release?

>The Wire
How do you feel about the aspect ratio fuckery? I'm currently watching it in its original 4:3 format but I've heard the horror stories about its BR

Nope, only DVD. There is a German BR though but I think it's minimal on extras

Looking forward to Alita, hope it's getting a deluxe release. Also looking into 4K players and 4K TV. If the discs are 100GB versus 50GB, that's obviously a massive benefit in video quality.

I have Isle of Dogs to watch.

I have 7th voyage, I love that movie

Do any of your public libraries rent out DVDs or BDs? Mine does, and they have a lot. A great way to see the movies in the best quality and for free.

King Kong ‘76 (Region A)

In terms of anime, stuff like Windaria, They Were 11, Project A-ko, Armitage III.

Getting this and The Karate Kid 4K on the 16th.

Attached: 231212_front.jpg (1568x2194, 651K)

Problem Child 2
The Wizard
3 Ninjas

All with lots of extas/commentaries.

Attached: i.png (624x464, 350K)

Chris Marker criterion double:
- Sans Soleil
- La Jetee (still image film that was the basis for 12 Monekys)

Ben hur and Lawrence of Arabia better get UHD releases or I'm going to go postal

Does anyone know if a bluray exists for Celine & Julie Go Boating that will work in the US?

best release of last year

Attached: NOTLD-Criterion-01.jpg (1200x1694, 377K)

>Hard Ticket To Hawaii

Someone redpill me on this and why everyone's getting it

>How do you feel about the aspect ratio fuckery? I'm currently watching it in its original 4:3 format but I've heard the horror stories about its BR
Definitely a hot issue. Some people are true aspect ratio purists, and their claims do have merit. David Simon wanted the show in 4:3 but HBO apparently fought him on it. As long as the source material is shot for "widescreen safe" I don't have much of a problem with it. Being in widescreen gives those diehards an option to encode it down to 4:3 if they so choose, while still maintaining the picture quality and intended ratio. The only way to make everyone happy would be to release double the number of discs, half original and half widescreen, although this would obviously increase the price of the set. HBO probably figured most people wouldn't care, as a lot of people really hate black bars on the sides (I'm fine with them). A faithful Blu-ray release would be something like Twin Peaks which maintains the original ratio. What I DO have a problem with is sets like The X-Files, where you have a picture that fills a 16:9 ratio but has parts of the top and bottom cropped to accommodate. Season 1-4 were all originally in 4:3 and thus their widescreen releases on Blu-ray are cropped. Anything that removes part of the original shot as it was framed is a no-go for me. To my knowledge they did something similar with Seinfeld in HD, though I don't think that was ever released on Blu-ray.

Likewise. My father used to love all that old Ray Harryhausen stop motion. Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans, etc. Great films.

dumb meme titty movie

fuck criterion and their shitty art

Here's my collection.

Attached: IMG_20190404_222745 (2).jpg (4249x3479, 2.83M)

I got mine pre-ordered. It’s one of the only titty fest movies I was ever able to slip past my mother in the rental store.

>dumb
>tits
gay

Good shit

Too many. There aren't that many good movies made.

you stole this from reddit didnt you

Thanks user.

Most of them are shitty horror movies. I just prefer watching those.

Nah, timestamp is in the filename dude.

>mac and me

based

Shit I've seen that scene before, did MST3K/Rifftrax cover it?

I'm of the same opinion, anything that crops what was originally broadcast is fucking sacrilege. I wasn't aware of that with X-Files and Seinfeld though, I'm watching both of them in HD on Amazon Prime at the moment. I'm gonna be hyper aware of everything being closed in now, I'll bet

I really don't get the hate for pan and scan

How far in are you on X-Files? Any favorite episodes so far?

>My father used to love all that old Ray Harryhausen stop motion
my parents gave me the 7th voyage vhs tape

A small selection 1/2

looks fun, whats your problem?

nigga watch your goddamn movies. and what release of the beyond is that? grindhouse?

Bonus: Chan and Shaw Brothers shelf

There’s more behind them but they’re all German, so not really much to look at.

>vinegar syndrome
Their release of Uninvited is fucking great. Incredible picture quality, an alternate cut of the film, and an engaging and informative commentary track with Greydon Clark.

Attached: 18169_18_large.jpg (1280x720, 218K)

I keep things sealed until it’s time to watch.

>Grindhouse release
Correct

It's hilarious in a ridiculous way. They also included a "vhs" copy on the blu-ray.

Mid-way through s2. Yeah, Deep Throat, Conduit, Beyond the Sea (based Dourif), Erlenmeyer Flask (obviously), and the Duane Barry/Ascension two-parter

I watched all of Millennium previously so I'm weirdly working my way backwards

who have a surround sound system to take advantage of this?

Attached: 1455436703697.jpg (1842x1340, 851K)

nothing. its just a dumb movie. but in a good way. most andy sidaris movies are like that.

there's a bunch of cheesy movies I'm praying for:
They Still Call Me Bruce
Gleaming the Cube
Rad
Split Second (1992)
Fatherland (1994)
Summer Camp Nightmare

Attached: They Still Call Me Bruce.jpg (510x800, 166K)

Was it the gay blowjob rape scene

that's impressive, nice dude

>tfw still live with parents so my blu-ray shit is scattered all over my room

I think it's pretty funny how physical collection threads are among the most civil on Yea Forums. Some pickups from the $5 Blu-ray bin at Walmart before they got rid of it.

Season 2 is my favorite. It's got so many great episodes.

That's the one.

Attached: IMG_20170815_184634969.jpg (4032x2268, 2.12M)

My most anticpated release.

2-hour documentary
54min of deleted scenes

Attached: 10516.jpg (960x693, 167K)

forgot about this. hope its on 2 discs.

I would post a pic but I'm genuinely afraid of some autist scanning the exif data on my picture and I'm too lazy to scrub it before posting

We all got our copies right?

Attached: 231624_slip.jpg (678x853, 354K)

I'm pretty sure Yea Forums has wiped exif data automatically for years now.

no, tell me why dude

Yea Forums removes exif data and has for a few years now

trash-tier Fulcikino coming in june

Attached: 10376_tn.jpg (739x960, 107K)

>shitty label releases it whenever they feel like it
>shut down their online store for most of every week
>2 cuts of the movie and they're both shorter than the uk vhs release
>nobody knows how the movie is supposed to be
>some scenes were shot after the original filming
>some scenes are switched around
>director is on his deathbed
>label threatened to pull it for sale if people keep complaining

more like trash-tier artwork lmao. what were they thinking? zombi and maniac look great. this looks like some shitty comic art like scream factory would put out.

Same bro, I'm moving out with a friend who also collects physical though so excited to finally have a nice library

>I think it's pretty funny how physical collection threads are among the most civil on Yea Forums
Pretty much why I started this thread, there's a direct correlation with people who invest and commit to physical media and the quality of discussion.

Same with Yea Forums's shelf threads, pretty much the only generals I post in regularly

Thanks man, here’s a picture from before I filled the shelf with Chan. I forgot there was more than just the German Shaw stuff back there...

Attached: 311390A9-9B85-44D9-A401-10C071D9A9E3.jpg (4032x3024, 3.34M)

I just got that "once upon a time" set, and it's great. my brother used to watch all those with me

Bumb

>put in rusty old dvd from 2002
>only special feature is a list of cast
I could've read the credits you morons.

Attached: image.jpg (760x456, 23K)

>tfw the DVD of a movie has 3x the special features of a Blu-Ray release that came out ten years later

Attached: 1546117550041.jpg (319x319, 79K)

I love Black Magic and Web of Death. I need to watch more kung fu with wizards.

Thinking about finally buying the Star Wars 6 movie set before they can it and only sell a set with the sequels shoehorned in.

I just got my first 4k bluray, 2001
