seeing human activity from an indifferent alien perspective. tons of weird shit happens but you slowly start to learn the "rules" of the story (the men get lured into the room then trapped then liquified, the motorcycle cops are ScarJo's handlers, etc). for me this was genuinely hypnotic and unnerving; i found it unpredictable in a way that few movies are and couldn't wait to see what happened next.
>second half
the perspective slowly starts to align with a human one. the ScarJo character's experiences with humans cause her to have empathy for them (because she sees rhroughout the first half that they care for her and each other) and she breaks free of whatever system she's a part of. this half is somewhat less involving, but, for me, was ultimately very moving. it ends strong with the alien's death.
