Who's the director?

Reading hard, black boy?

you're not, retard

>blue pill on red jacket

based and subtlepilled

oh no...

Wait, is this real? They're actually making a live action Akira?

dicaprio is too old to do it now

...

>I can't believe I'm the first on to post this here.
We were talking about this last week.

Leo is only producing it.

there is literally no reason for this movie to exist

it is one of the worst possible candidates for a live action westernized anime adaptation. the original film is an incredible visual spectacle. what does making it live action accomplish. it isn't possible to make it look better or more stylish. and the story's themes are intrinsically japanese. it's a fucking hiroshima allegory.

I like Taika Waititi a lot but he's a poor fit.
In fact akira is a bad fit for live action

can't wait to see the u.s miss thepoint entirely and just make a dumb action flick

wew

Just another infuriating example of Hollywood board room faggots needing to dip their dick into any established IP for that sweet cash. Movies are too fucking big now, money is how they decide on what to make.

Speaking of terrible US adapation of beloved anime classics, how was the GitS movie with Scarjo? I rewatched the animated movie recently for the first time in a couple of years and it was bretty great, lot better than I remembered it.

>how was the GitS movie with Scarjo?
Absolutely fucking awful. Well, the references were neat, but ScarJo's interpretation of a full blown military cyborg with years of experience in the field with mastery of small arms, large arms, and hacking every fucking thing in sight was just embarrassing. That dumb cunt couldn't even hold a prop pistol level without shaking and the real Motoko held up a sniper rifle right at an armored suit and shot it like 14 times after getting her arm blown off.

It was alright. Boring if you've seen the movie and series, though. It was nice seeing Batou on the big screen though.

>Leonardo DiCaprio as producer
>director Taika Waititi is also said to be helming the remake
kino on the menu lads

why would you remake something in a worst format? adapt some book instead like neuromancer

Saw it earlier today
waititi is still attached

what is the point user

>Akira
>directed by a non visual director
o I am laffin

shit, don't bother to watch it

It's been in development hell for decades.
Capeshit has been big businsess for Hollywood for 20 whole years, so executives are beginning to wonder what the Next Big Thing is. They've decided it's going to be anime adaptations. Ghost in the Shell and Alita both failed catastrophically but that won't stop them. No one knew what they were doing with super heroes in the '90s either.

Absolutely boring. It is not that the original was a Bay fest of explosions and shootings. But at least it was pretty to watch.
Scarjo is even more wooden than the original.
It changed the entire dilemma. It hammered some 'I do give consent' crap for braindead americans.
The action was dark as the ass of a nigger so you couldn't follow crap.
And of course it did not have anything resembling the original score.
It is like those elephants medieval monks drawn from bad translations of drunkard sailors. You know what it's trying to do but it fails.

> Ghost in the Shell and Alita both failed catastrophically but that won't stop them.
Alita didn't fail, tho. Cameron did a good job in Alita as a producer.

>It's going to suck they turned Kaneda
into an adult Bartender
and have a crappy director and writer attached

It looked and sounded amazing, but the story was absolutly terrible cliché

I am hyped, much more so than I was for Ghost in the Shell. Waititi is actually a decent director

Wouldn't Akira need a stupidly huge budget?

Yeah in the early 90's they considered making one then they realized it would of cost way to much and decided not to make

So are they giving it a big budget now?

Oh God le funny anti white Jewish kiwi Maori over rated faggot.
I liked his stuff before Thor 3 but he can't stop sucking his own dick and is insufferable not to mention a terrible choice for this remarke
He's tone deaf comedy works... As a comedy not a serious anime remake ffs
Literally what doth life + muh cyberpunk 80s
Idk I didn't read the manga but from the gestalt I've read on here it's pretty interesting no doubt this reboot 3d shit will miss the point entirely just like gits aeon flux
Or we could get a diamond rough like alita so who knows.
Just get the guys who made that death love + robots short where the prostitute kills the incel guy over and over in a loop the whitness
Jfc this is why anime keeps flopping in the west if they had half a brain they'd start small with a Mini series and build up to a movie but they all want that instant hit billions of dollars

Never knew Leo was into anime..
I'm reserving judgement till I see some production photos or leaks

After the recent bebop disaster in genuinely scared of how much of a disaster it could easily turn out to be

>No one knew what they were doing with super heroes in the '90s either.

Once producers find out how to make an anime film that will rake in the big bucks, you can bet your ass on live action anime adaptions of not just action flicks but slice of life like K-On and Non Non Biyori. JJ Abram's Your Name is just the beginning.

Superhero flicks work because they're tapping into deeply saturated popular awareness. There isn't really that much anime with that kind of a grip on american culture. Dragonball is probably the single most well known anime equivalent to batman/spiderman and look at how that turned out.
Think about it this way, cape comics have been around so long, 90 year old grandpas grew up with them. Anime was largely unknown in the US until the late 90's, so the oldest people who really grew up with it and would have that ingrained nostalgia for it are only like 30 somethings, and the anime they remember fondly is not the anime little kids now are watching. 12 year olds don't care about cowboy bebop and ranma. Hell, even Naruto, Bleach, and one piece are old boomer shit to kids now. You don't have that continuity of iconic characters that everyone knows and can latch onto, therefore no hidden money mine for hollywood to start pumping.

Whatever happened to that Bebop shit, btw?

>Taika Waititi
FUCK OFF

Who the fuck is Waititi?
Name sounds like a Bionicle character.

Why, he is a really good director
>b-but he directed le capeshit

Give it a watch user, one of the best comedies this decade

m.imdb.com/title/tt3416742/

Thor 3 was D O G S H I T

i fell asleep watching akira + ghost in the shell for like 15 minutes each the first time

This is the definition of shit taste

GITS is literally 80 minutes long dude, if you can't manage that then it's time to end it all

He's going to inject comedy into Akira
It's going to be a disaster
Might as well go full Netflix and make John Boyega Kaneda
This dumpster fire is going to burn bright

it was one of the worst movies I've seen in years

Akria had comedy.

>muh serious weebtrash
If anything, he will save it and make it bearable for non-autists

>I can't believe I'm the first on to post this here.

>Give it a watch user, one of the best comedies this decade

Akira is not a comedy, basedboi

>weebtrash
Any cares?

Yeah but not the TBS Big Bang how I met your mother type humor that was splattered all over Thor Ragnarök

>I can't believe I'm the first on to post this here.
You're not. There was a thread yesterday.

I hope they actually adapt the manga and not simply remake the anime movie.
