There’s more CO2, which traps more heat (climate.nasa.gov). And increasingly, the entire system is being driven to a new equilibrium point. And the danger is that we may reach a tipping point where it can’t be stopped from shifting. So the 12 year figure refers to this tipping point where it may start to go out of control.
