Tony Soprano wasn't a psychopath nor a sociopath. He clearly cared way too much about his friends and family and honoring them to be one. He was just someone who was inured to mafia life from an early age.

when did tony ever care about his friends?
He killed his highest-earning capo over a fucking horse
He was a clear narcissist though.
Yeah, he killed a piece of shit psychopath. There were many psychopaths in the show, Ralphie, Richie, maybe Phil and Silvio. Tony was not one.
Ralphie was a loose cannon and a rival, he had it coming to him
He was a shitty leader is all I'm saying, an awful boss.
Can a sociopath still care about family? If a sociopath cares about oneself, you're a reflection of your parents, your partner is a reflection on you and your children are literally half yours. It doesn't seem difficult to imagine a sociopath, a narcissist or a psychopath caring about their immediate family.
Tony contemplated killing almost everyone in his crew, plus Artie Buco, and his uncle and Mom. The only person I can think of that Tony didn't want to kill was Sil.
psychopaths do kill people though
He killed him over a hooker actually.
He didn't contemplate it, he wrestled with it.
paulie was pretty based
used to not like him but after subsequent viewings hes come to be my favorite character
The horse was the final straw, he would've killed Ralphie over Tracee if people weren't there to see. He cared for Tracee and was horrified by what Ralphie did to her. That whole episode drew parallels between Tracee and Tony's own daughter who's around her age. Tony subconsciously sees himself as a father figure to her which is why he rejects her earlier in the episode. A sociopath is not capable of this kind of empathy.
They can care for them like possessions but his behavior wasn't like that. As much of a piece of shit AJ was you could really see Tony's humanity when he saved him from suicide. If he was a psychopath he would have saved him because Anthony's his genetic legacy but he'd just berate and threaten him afterward.
He didn't wrestle with it, he debated it
That's what wrestling with it means. He could have easily killed Artie without consequences, his instincts as a gangster provoked the idea. You know what held him back? The fact that he cared about those people.
He was a whiny little cunt sometimes though
>He ruled against me wahhhhh
>He didn't call me wahhhhh
>But T I'm trying to support my Ma wahhhh
He has sociopathic tendencies and is a bad person but I wouldn't straight up call him a sociopath. His therapy sessions were ultimately detrimental to his growth as a person because now he puts all the blame on his parents for making him this way and not taking responsibility for his actions.
he was angry he was given the cold shoulder after he got out of jail
i wonder why sil never got much attention. felt more like a set piece than a character
sociopaths do have emotional connections with a very small group of people
It started before he went to jail when Tony ruled in Ralphie's favor, although his ruling was perfectly reasonable. Paulie was a faggot about it
It was his first acting gig so they never gave him much early on. Then as the seasons went on he had musical commitments which limited his time.
no, they don't. They don't even have emotions for themselves. They are basically just animals maximizing their genetic strategy at every opportunity. They can put on convincing displays of emotion but this is done to serve this genetic strategy, and no, not merely subliminally.
>be mad at someone
>kill something they love in a really agonizing way
I'd have done the same as Tony but worse. If he didn't actually do it then he's retarded for intentionally prodding Tony into thinking he did
>Being this much of a brainlet
you're the one taking the bait
I kind of liked that. He was the rock who managed things in the background. We saw that he couldn't handle the number 1 role but were lead to assume that as number 2 he did an adequate job and never created any problems. I always liked the scenes where Tony would try to gauge his opinion without explicitly asking him for it. tldr I think his character was handled pretty well by what we're lead to think about him considering how little screen time/explicit character development there is.
>she was a beautiful innocent creature
it was more about tracee.
i guess as far as "realistic" characters go, he was more so than most others. not everyone had to be a larger than life, constant drama causing plot point
>Thread is about Tony and whether or not he's a psychopath
>posts Paulie
The whole thing was that he confronted him about the horse, while implying it was about the hooker. Because for someone like tony soprano to suddenly have a heart for tramps is hypocritical.
Fuck I'm not going to load up on sopranos pics. I do have other sopranos pics but all my pics are in one folder and its nice when I can just type the name to call up the pic I want.
Well, I mean, did you watch the show? He was an insanely bad actor.
how did tony get away with that?
By being the boss of the family, vs a guy with an empty-gesture promotion that was actually just to fuck him over and whom no one liked except Jackie Jr. who was already dead anyway.
He blamed New York for it, as a response for not giving them a piece of the Esplanade which Ralphie controlled
those are my fuckin' routes

Favorite footage/photos of Sopranos actors when they were really young?
holy shit i just realized this, i thought he was talking about the horse
Tony very clearly cared about Artie and let him get away with a lot, and still tried to support him.
Tony knew the people underneath him weren't his friends, but Artie is definitely a friend. And he cares for his extended family. He even cared for Chrissy, and Chrissy was a big boy fuck up.
>Tony Soprano
astute observation, OP
You are correct. The Sopranos true message was that incompetent leadership will ruin any enterprise.
Tony was a legitimate moron.
His "rise to power" only happened because
> death of the head guy, Jackie (who got the gig because the other mope got busted)
> senility of Junior
and once achieving power, Tony sperged out no different than AJ at every turn and chased away EVERY competent worker (Richie, Ralphie, Tony, Feech)
Tony surrounded himself with idiots and yes-men
> chrissy
> Paulie
> Silvio
> Bobby
nb4 - bb-but those guys wwwere meanies!!
What the fuck? Sil lookin' like a fuckin' Mulignan
So what you're saying is, Tony was literally Hitler
He was handsome as fuck, unironically
>Tony was literally Hitler
hitler was a Varsity athlete
nigga tonys whole arc fuck the whole show is about how he cant change and is totally empty. didnt even feel bad about killing chrissy who was 'like a son to him'
Compare him having dinner with his family at Vesuvio (season 2?) to him at the diner in the final scene. Literally soul vs soulless
let me explain a couple of three things:
1. tony killed ralph over the horse, he didn't give a fuck about tracee at that point.
2. tony had antisocial personality disorder, witch is on a scale, you can be a "psychopath/sociopath" (same thing basically and psychologists don't use these terms anymore) and still love your kids or a few people close to you, or your pets.
Has anyone noticed you can't officially stream the original Woke Up This Morning on any streaming platforms in Burgerland? It doesn't come up on Google Play, the official youtube playlist or Apple Music. Luckily I have the album on CD but it was really weird trying to find the full album to listen to while I was at work.
nah, he was talking about the horse, throughout the whole series Tony has had a slight disdain for all women who allow themselves to be pushed around. Following from his Mother to Carm etc.
The Russian handicapped beauty was a dialogue to this, she had restraint which Tony envied.
Generally speaking power-crazed people only envy or care for people who they deem to have qualities out of their reach. The horse was pure and a winner, Tony wasn't. The ducks could fly away, Tony's stuck in New Jersey.
HE DIDN'T HAVE THE MAKINGS OF A VARSITY ATHLETE!
Did tony soprano go to hell?
Sources. Idk what licensing contract made it so that you could just take the song away from the album.

I hope English isn't your first language, and Tony wasn't fucking antisocial you fucking pleb.
she was a hooar
he was a soldier, soldiers don't go to hell
>well, tomorrow I can be on time, but you'll be stupid forever.
ralph was a danger and unstable as fuck. and the horse was mostly his anyway. ralph was going to try to fuck him on it.
and his money. ralph was a sneaky little shit.
he did the best depiction of a guneawop with airs I have ever seen on tv.
that gobbled my gabagool!!
Tony was borderline personality
Tony is constantly trying to manipulate any given person he is interacting with for short term gain.
Based
Meant for
No, sociopaths can have empathy and make connections with someone under the right conditions. Psychopaths on the other hand completely fake and appear as they have it although they don't.
Sil is the best character in the show
Nah, Chrissy is. Call him entry-level all you want but he clearly has the most interesting character development in the show
He wasn't bad.
There are certain moments in the show that remind him of his upbringing, particularly the traumatizing realization that his father was a violent criminal and that was what supported his family. He feels trapped into pursuing that same life and is dogged by the memory of his father and his desire to his father's approval. There are several times when it is highlighted that Tony is a particularly smart person, not just in mafia terms but in general. He retains intellectual concepts from his therapy sessions with Dr. Melfi and is generally very cunning when dealing with subordinates and adversaries. He is, of course, uneducated and uncultured so he says a lot of stupid and backward things, but it's clear he has the capacity to function at a higher level than his peers. This is emphasized in a recurring dream he has when he goes to shoot his high school gym teacher/football coached and is scolded for being unprepared and wasting his potential. His upbringing forced him into a commitment to this medieval barbaric way of living through a secret society of criminals clinging to their distinct ethnic and cultural identity and distracting themselves from their hopeless situation (it is said several times through the show that the vast majority of these guys end up in jail or dead) through drinking/drugs, gambling, fornicating, and ostentatious and gaudy displays of wealth. He realizes in his subconscious that the outdated excess focus on familial loyalty that he was indoctrinated into from his youth prevented him from achieving his potential in a life outside of organized crime, but he cannot reconcile it with the years and years of rationalization for it that he has engaged in and also the fact that everything that he cares about exists in complete dependence on this lifestlye. His brain basically short circuits because the feeling that everything about him is a deadly sham and it's too late to stop it is too much for him to handle.
chase laid it on pretty thick when he intercut tracee when tony was looking at meadow
actual good post. thanks user, that was insightful to read.
i think this is the real reason he resented bobby. in the boat, bobby tells him that his father "never wanted it for me". tony is jealous that bobby received the protection from his father that he never got
>implying everyone didn’t want Ralph dead
He was very smart and an excellent earner but reckless and indirectly caused the deaths of the easily influenced Jackie Jr. and friends, directly caused Tracee’s death, possibly the horse, disrespected Tony on multiple occasions and told a joke that, thanks partially to his arrogant handling of the apology, created a rift between New York and Tony.
i feel like watching a season of sopranos now, what season is best as a stand-alone
>main protagonist wasnt the chosen one
Seriously paulie had ghosts and crazy paranormal shit all around him, and when he walks into the bing and sees the virgin mary, later on you see tony walk in the same set up and look were the virgin mary was and sees nothing. The orange cat following paulie around implied to be chrissys ghost. Paulie is also a bastard of sorts with no real father and a nun as a mother. And in the end is really the only one to make it out besides patsy
You’re right. Game of Thrones literally cannot compete
I still believe it’s Patsy Parisi that flipped on Tony by going to Little Carmine about the Rusty hit. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the tree o clock shit was Chris telling Paulie the angle of which he will kill Tony.
>It’s like Judas or something
The joke thing was paulie's fault, everyone was cracking on Ginny
Gangsters are pathetic faggot wannabes. Real men make honest contributions to the human race, eradicating gangster faggots at all levels — locally, nationally, and globally, for instance.
Crissy had it coming, if he was anyone else he would've been long dead. You know all the chances Tony gave him?
He was a mama’s boy, just like all ignorant wops.
Pretty much every scene where there was an intercut to show what Tony's thinking about felt like executive meddling. For a show that goes extreme lengths most of the time not to insult the viewer's intelligence, they don't seem like decisions Chase himself would make. Another great example is the "Mommy! Mommy!" one from season 2.
The only time this kind of thing is done reasonably well was the "Survivor" scene where Tony feels Sal's presence in the mirror.
ralph was a fag
Nobody is disputing that.
thank god
Me too, he seemed more likely to get in contact with the brother of the guy ( forgetting his name) who killed himself because tony wouldnt let him leave as they were always together at the construction site, also because of his son getting arrested and when tony and patsy are having tea with the wives near the end of the show its clear patsy knows what tony is thinking, but also on top of all that in season 1 when tony whacks patsys twin brother and patsy ends up in tonys backyard drunk, crying and ready to murder tony. It would make the most sense for him to have put the hit on tony.
>Watch Sopranos age 16, think how cool it would be to be in that world
>Watch Sopranos age 26, can only think about how they're leaching off society, contributing nothing, and generally just holding the human race back
>another hur dur chrissy had it comin’ faggot
Chrissy was the most punished character in the show
>Junkie father dies and is left with an alcoholic mother that is as spiteful and callous as Livia
>house so dirty he couldn’t make long lasting friends
>Only role model is Tony Soprano, who is a drug dealer at this point
>Was bullied by Tony S and Tony B
>Tony grooms him into the life of crime. No Jackie Aprile Sr moment where he didn’t want this kid to be a part of the life that will end only in misery
>Tony is the reason chrissy is damned into hell
>Tony’s terrible leadership. Keeps doing him favors when he should have realized Chrissy shouldn’t be a part of the life
>We see Chrissy has the potential to be an actor. Clearly has his head in other things not related to crime
>Tries to sober up
>Tony keeps egging him on drink a little bit of alcohol. Which you’re not fucking supposed to with addicts.
>Lo and behold, Tony and the mobsters making him drink and the fact he is haunted by Ade’s death leads him back to being a junkie
>Tony kills Chris.
Like fucking lamb to the slaughter, raised him up only to put him down. Tony is a piece of shit
You can be a 100% psychopath and a family-man
>>another hur dur chrissy had it comin' faggot
i think it's the /polveddit9k/ immigrants we've been getting since 2016
People have been arguing that Chris had it coming for a while I think. Or they don’t understand that addicd aren’t supposed to be on alcohol. Either way it’s retarded to say Chrissy had it coming. Under that logic fucking Tony had it coming. Literally everybody in the show has it coming. The point of the show is that we are able to empathize with criminals in some way shape or form. Then some faggot flaunting his
>Bro muh Doggy eat Dog World View dude.
like an infuriating faggot that thinks he is offering a new point of view
Tony wasn’t a sociopath. Just an extremely screwed up normal person with anger issues.
2/4
true. when you rewatch you really pick up a lot of details. for example that conversation tony and chrissy have by the grill in walk like a man, or when tony fired sal vitro after janice got the house in moe n joe. i've come to the conclusion that one of the main themes of the show is how little tony's family differs from his 'family'; they all essentially make bargains - carm's spec house as a condition to take tony back is just like cutting a deal with new york on a construction project. aj's suicide attempt is a way to force tony's hand into pampering him more. maedo is just generally very similar to livia. honestly janice was right when she said tony was more like livia and she was more like johnny. hopefully the movie is good cause it seems to be about johnnyboy, junior and dickie
Yeah mobsters are assholes but it's hard to have a "I'm doing it for society" outlook when you're stuck doing all the shitty jobs of society for shit pay
Paulie was the only one in the entire crew, except maybe Bobby, that actually had some principles and ideals. He really believed in "this thing of ours" and saw Tony as a leader. Yeah he undermined Tony with New York but that was because Tony didn't visit him in the can.
All of Tony's highest earning guys end up dead throughout the series
>Ralphie
>Vito
>Richie
>Pussy
Hell even Eugene Pontecorvo gave him a huge payday with the cut of the lottery cash
A beautiful innocent creature that put cigarettes out on her kid.
SHE WAS A HOOOeR
you just described a sociopath
thats a psychopath. Sociopaths are emotionally unstable and dramatic
This is the objective answer to all of Vito's questions and enigmas. Please refrain from ever discussing them like the pleb ignorants you are:
>Was Vito gay?
"No!"
>then why suck the guy's cock?
It was a joke
>why did he he make such a homossexual joke?
Because of the medication
>what does the medication have to do with it?
It changes a mans sense of humour
>was he still under the effects of the medication when he ran away?
Yes
>was living with the fireman a joke?
Yes
>why did he leave the fireman and the happiness he had found, even knowing Phil wanted his ass dead?
Because the effects of the medication wore off
>how did Vito sneak behind Jackie Jr and "nothing personalled" him?
Objects of large mass can collapse upon themselves, create black holes and teleport themselves in wormholes. Vito was a man of large mass
>did Vito also teleport the car and the driver?
Yes
>Could Vito have teleported himself to another place when his jokes were found out?
No, the medication made him lose too much mass
>how did Vito kill Jackie Jr with a toy gun?
He didn't, Jackie had a collapsed lung, as we can see by the snow already having blood when he falls, and Vito took the credit for it. Lots of luck
>why does the scene where Vito threatens Finn DeTrollio look like bad CGI?
Objects of large mass, such as Vito, can deform their surroundings due to excerting a stronger force of gravity
>was Finn really his arch nemesis?
Yes. Thin. Kind of tall. Looks like Daniel Day Lewis' son. Couldn't take a joke
>would Vito kill him in the Yankees' game?
No, he just wanted to make a new friend, and share some jokes
>why did Phil want Vito's death so much?
Because he was a closeted faggot
>wasn't it all a joke?
No, he wasn't fat, so he wasn't on medication
The Sopranos is like a Shakespearean tragedy about a mad king wiping out the royal subjects that were loyal to the last king. As much as Tony loved Jackie, he completely shat on his legacy.
>Dreamscape Jackie: “Thunderstorms, you smell it? That’s rain.”
>Richie Aprile
>Jackie Jr
>Raph
>Vito
>Eugene
I wonder who will play Livia.
He was a bigot so that fatfuck could kablamo in spaghetti
>Tony hears Furio beating the shit out of a woman in the whorehouse from his Jeep
>laughs and relights his cigar
