Not really. Just the appearance of it. It had more competent direction for an average scene but as an assembled whole (the only thing that matters in the end) the filmmaking in the sequels is not even that competent. Most of it is bad writing but it's more than just bad writing.

In other words, a very tiny few have ever been able to accomplish what Lucas did with Star Wars. There are no epic blockbuster trilogies you can point to and unequivocally say "that is better than Star Wars." There's at least plenty of room for debate. The fact is that the original Star Wars trilogy is an incredible cinematic achievement. You can point to flaws in the films, but you can't point to undeniably superior execution of the same type of story in another work, and certainly not during the era it was originally released.

Soul is a vision. Soul is the creator genuinely caring for his creation. A soul is a creator making the product he envisions because he genuinely cares for it and wants to tell the story he imagined in his mind.

What isn't soul is nu-wars. Nu-wars has no vision, they didn't imagine a story and try to tell it like George, they copied an old story and tried to make a movie they think the audience wanted to see. The creators of nu-wars don't care about their product, they care more about their money, agendas, and politics.

Ironically, you could say TLJ, the worst star wars product of all time, had the most soul of ant nu-wars movie, and it did. Unfortunately Rian Johnson is an even bigger hack than George and he just made a shit product. He also had a lot of meddling from Lucasfilms who only care about money, agendas, and politics and not star wars.
