Why did DC try to launch their cinematic universe with Green Lantern when the Flash was an objectively superior choice for a movie?

Green Lantern is just as good a choice since it can, in theory, establish the cosmic aspect of the DC Universe.

connected cinematic universes are retarded
glad they drop that shit

t. numale

Because Marvel had a plan from the start and DC keeps fucking up and trying to play catch up. Man of Steel should have been a standalone movie and not expanded into more shit.

Because the Flash didn't have fighter jets. Action movies need them.

this
the studio exec in charge was like oh shit green lantern flew planes, people love top gun we need planes

It took Marvel 10 movies to establish the cosmic side of their universe and they were even worried that it was going to fail. Why in fuck hell would anyone start with a cosmic movie?

I've heard it's because they thought Lantern was the closest thing they had to copying Iron Man 1's formula.

Wish we could have got Green Arrow Supermax instead

I unironically like the green lantern movie.

It's not great, but it's not as bad as people say. Reynolds was likeable and Sinestro was fantastic.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash and Aquaman are DC's tentpole characters.

Out of them, Superman was unavailable due to Warner's legal battle with the Siegel/Shuster estate, and Batman was unavailable due to the ongoing Christopher Nolan film series. Wonder Woman was in development hell and would've been a female-led action movie, which were generally considered to be a bad investment, and Aquaman was a fucking joke to the average audience.

So it was down to Green Lantern or Flash, and Green Lantern was going through a popularity surge at the time, becoming DC's highest-selling character, while Flash was in a slump. Plus Flash was already in development hell and going through constant rewrites.

Then there's this , this and unironically And they were still planning on releasing a Flash movie in 2012 had the Green Lantern movie been successful, with Chris Pine in the lead role.

They did Green Lantern because Hal Jordan is a pilot, and WB unironically thought that Iron Man 1 was successful because it had jets in it
That's the entire reason why they wanted to do Green Lantern

I worked on this movie. Launching a cinematic universe with Green Lantern was NEVER part of the conversation.

>literally has a post credit scene teasing Sinestro Corps

No, that was actually part of the script. Due to budget reasons, they had to scrap the whole yellow ring sub-plot and decided tacked that scene with Sinestro at the end.

If you ever watch it again, there's absolutely no explanation or even a hint of Sinectro turning bad.

They went into panic mode due to the troubled production and bad buzz, but when they started it was absolutely supposed to be their answer to IRON MAN and launch the DC Cinematic Universe.

So much that they were already planning for Green Lantern to have a Nick Fury-esque cameo in the Flash movie they were developing.

I've never seen that page before.

And no, there was never a cinematic universe in mind until WB started production with BVS.

George Miller was going to helm a Justice League movie but everything fell apart due to the writers strike way back when.

Yeah, and Ryan Reynolds said that if Green Lantern was a success then Deadpool would have never been made

>I've never seen that page before.

Then stop LARPing as a studio worker.

because it was the most similair to iron man with the jets and military angle

literally was chosen because the execs saw he was a test pilot and it meant there would be fighter jets

not even kidding

Then why did they say in multiple interviews that it was?

You don't have to believe me.

But I'll tell you why they went for a cg suit as opposed to practical, which would've save cost and include the sub-plot of the Yellow ring. The reason why the dumbass director and executives chose cg suit was because Iron Man had a cg suit. That's it. They wanted to show Disney that they can do an entire cg suit that was organic and still have their star's face visible. Because of the dumb short sighted reason, the original script was hacked up to pieces. Originally it was a two part origin story that involved one character (Hal) becoming a hero and Sinestro eventually turning bad, thus his quest to find the Yellow ring.

Pic related is an early prototype of what the practical suit could've looked like. We were extremely excited when we saw these pictures (no, a majority of us didn't get to see it in person) but that alone gave us hope that we were working on something special, but alas, nope.

The actors involved in making this movie were told to say specific things that would entice audience. That's it.

Ryan Reynolds had no idea what Martin Campbell (director) was doing. He was left completely in the dark until the trailer was shown at a convention somewhere.

Looking back, Green Lantern has more in line with an average MCU film than it does modern DCEU.

imagine LARPing as a green lantern staff member. what has your life come to

>WB unironically thought that Iron Man 1 was successful because it had jets in it
Is WB ran by autistic children?
