First time posting in this general, I'm curious. I've not watched the anime, read the manga, or seen the movie, so all I know about this thing is what I've learned from lurking the last few threads.
My question for those of you with sincere enthusiasm for this stuff, what are your thoughts on the visual adaptation of the robowaifu character? The live action version looks so weird and uncanny. I could understand enjoying the anime and manga, but the movie alita looks like she'd be disconcerting to watch.

I thought the exact same thing when I watched the trailers. I saw the movie because of all the autism on Yea Forums and fell in love with the movie. Alita as a character takes over and you no longer notice the eyes.

They actually made her eyes bigger and changed her face to make her look less realistic. I guess this either tripped the Uncanny Valley less for people, or it made her look even more-out-of-place in the setting which is important for her character in the movie.
The movie version of Alita is not at all disconcerting to watch if you're used to anime eyes.

I might have over-read the scene, but from the café scene I just assumed that Ido was from Zalem. I thought the mark of Zalem was just a Zalem fashion thing, and that it was either gender-specific, or that Ido had taken his off. I didn't even consider the possibility that Chiren and Ido's relationship could have been one between a Zalemite and a non-Zalemite.

But he just seemed to have the air of a guy who went native and is content with it, and that's why I automatically assumed that he was from Zalem when it was revealed that Chiren was from there. I know some missionaries who fell in love with the country they went to, and stayed there for the rest of their lives. He reminded me of them.

I did email them a few suggestions, I sent them a comparisson picture of the eyes.
They know the iris should be bigger, the prototype looks like Alita from the first trailer and they know it. And they did answer thanking me and saying they would contact the production team.

My favorite moments from the movie are not even on the soundtrack.
The part where Hugo goes "So you must be from up there," and Alita looks up, the orchestral version of her theme playing is fucking beautiful. Then the heavy drums in the underworld part are boss, the sad theme during Hugo's death, it's all just so great, the score is top game.
