Yeah I cringed so hard. Its idea of cool was so corny and dated, aka a guy in sunglasses bobbing his head as he strutted down the streat to soul and Queen tunes. Really, the sense of style all around was clueless, the movie equivalent of someone who thinks SAXOPHONES are super cool and sexy.

Which is too bad because I can agree with its more general sentiment and celebration of how music can vitalize and colorize life. It just took the high risk of trying to be really cool and failed.

I really liked it despite some of its faults. I watched it as in flight entertainment over the Atlantic, I can imagine it was a lot more entertaining on the big screen.

Good movie, I don't know why people get so butthurt about Wright.

I think Wright is a very capable and fun director. It's to his credit that a movie as stylistically cringey as this was still admittedly pretty fun. But I like his older movies, well enough. And Scott Pilgrim was another case of not quite getting the style of the youth right but still being really impressive anyways. I am looking forward to his next one with Ayyfu though. That project sounds like he's caught up a bit with better aesthetic pastures.

I waked out in the opening when he’s dancing to the song in the car and being obnoxious. I’ve never been turned off anything so quickly. It took me a good while to recover.

It definitely wasn’t Wright’s best but I still found it fun and it had its own (admittedly corny) style to it. I think it would have been greatly improved if Wright’s taste in music wasn’t so awful. Don’t regret seeing it in the cinema
That part was the most cringy in the entire film, the rest of it isn’t as bad.
