wait what is

farscape.. what?
oh please, gods of Yea Forums don't ruin my favorite sci fi show.

It needs a reboot.

Just started watching it because I've heard good things about it. Two episodes in it runs like the standard sci-fi show. Comfy but I was led to believe there was something more to it. What should I expect?

Season 1 is fucking dogshit apart from a few episodes and this is coming from someone who loves the show. From season 2 onwards it gets kino

This thing freaked me out a lot as a kid.

It was really rude and arrogant yet short and fat. Didnt it have a floating chair

Boy if that is freaky to you I hope you never have to visit America

Season one is just introducing the characters and letting their relationships develop.
Stick with it until based Scorpious shows up near the end of the first season and shit gets real.
The cast all has really great chemistry, and over the course of the show you see them go from a bunch of selfish assholes who don't like or trust eachother, but are stuck together out of circumstance. Over the show they end up turning into a group of bros who have developed a mythical legend behind them because they've managed to btfo everyone who has ever messed with them by just being crazy dipshits with nothing left to lose.
Really good show, give it a chance.

Based Dominar Rygel XVI is the best character on the show.

Show some respect, you fool! That's the Dominar.

Fuck Scarrans!

Farscape had the added bonus of traditional sci-fi babes that also were instrumental to the plot.

That's Henson Studio's for you.
They also talk in the commentary about the real trick to selling the muppets was to physically interact with them.
The fact that Rygel is biting people left and right, getting slapped, that pilot gets more hugs in the show than anyone, all helps sell them as characters, and not just fancy props.

Nope. It sucked to see her go, I loved that big blue bitch, but the show was still strong. The only problem was that so many of their problems were either solved by Zahn's spirituality, or her alchemy skill.
Jool tries to do sciency stuff, and then they Granny came aboard to fill that niche, while still being her own character.

S1 is a typical scifi show then s2 you actually see psychological consequences from the events of the end of s1 and it becomes incredible

God damn it Scorpious, you magnificent fucking bastard.

Wrong, there are just a few bad episodes in the first half and the rest are fine. The early character development is great, it's the season where you see them go from hating each other to being close as family. Episodes like DNA Mad Scientist, A Human Reaction and Till the Blood Runs Clear are classics, not to mention the incredible finale. Also Aeryn is as her absolute sexiest in the first season

The worst season is clearly 4

Shit was cash.

Yes we need a black Aeryn, also there isn't enough intersectional feminism in the original show

She also played a demon in Beastmaster, which was a comfy adventure show. 12 year old me found her quite fetching

I remember that interview. Ben said the puppet was off limit until the episode where he hauled off and started choking the Rygel one and they rolled with it

I saw this show when it first debuted, and I liked it from the get go, but it was that episode that really sold me on the show.
What other sci fi show has the half mad protagonist screaming "HUMANS ARE SUPERIOR!" before blowing up an ayy lmao begging for his life.

I don't remember - why couldn't Scorpius change those rods himself?
Instead of trying to "serious" or "realism," the show happily swan dived into madness and was so much better for it.

Chricton's the first human ever seen in this part of the universe, but he never went "I must be a spokesperson for my people. A paragon, an ideal human to set the understanding of how awesome we are." No, Chricton went, "FUCK YOU! YOU DON'T KNOW HUMANS!! YOU DON'T WHAT I CAN DO OR WILL DO SO BACK THE FUCK OFF CUZ I'M A CRAAAAAAZY GUY!!!"

You little cunt.
Take that back.

underrated and good opinion
there's so much character and social development in S1 that people gloss over
S4 with its soft reboot beginning and continued addition of unnecessary new characters is more of a slog than S1

That's the good stuff.

Attached: farscape dna mad scientist.gif (324x250, 2.54M)

said this in a past thread the only reboot or continuation I'd like to see would be an open world RPG a bit similar to Mass Effect in gameplay that takes place in the same universe with an astronaut shot through a wormhole to the unchartered territories
would shell out cash for a crowdfunding thing

Worst character, shrieking through.

Attached: farscape jool.jpg (479x720, 48K)

easily, so glad they split her character into Sputnik and Granny for s4

felt she had more personality than sikozu and I never cared about Noranti
but I do agree with what someone else said that Zhaan was overused and essentially overpowered in the seasons she was in

Don't Care.
Would Fug

Attached: farscape jool.jpg (1200x1801, 279K)

how would a continuation even work? Jon continually repeating nearly thirty year old out of date pop culture?
the only thing I thought would've been cool to explore more of was world building and the larger politics of the Scarrans and Peacekeepers fighting but that would clash with the style of the past show way too much

>The son of Chrichton
Could work.

Son of Chricton grows up in alien space. New wormhole tech has been used by Earth to follow Chricton to alien space. Son becomes the emissary to the Earth people. He and two/three other aliens are tasked with helping two Earth Humans establish an embassy. Something "goes wrong."
Same basic disregard and mannerisms of Chricton but directed at Earthly customs.

Attached: farscape pilot.jpg (220x320, 38K)

There was a comic I never read that continued the story.
The thing that I don't like about picking the story back up is that peacekeeper wars tied it up with a nice bow. It was rushed, but finally they had a plan, and it worked.

maybe
the reddit/farscape people seem convinced that the show being on Amazon Prime is to test the viewing numbers to potentially pursue a continuation
though these people have thought the same thing for fifteen years now

Use time space fuckery to make it so John Crichton's Earth was in the past of the timeline of the part of the galaxy he was in.
The tape recorder he left on the moon springboarded humanity technology wise, but since they're asshole's they end up forming an evil earth empire that begins encroaching on the uncharted territories and Scorpious goes to find the only human he knows to fight fire with retarded fire.
Son of Crichton ends up emperor of the galaxy.

Attached: Farscape 2x19 scorpious and chricton.png (720x540, 1.12M)

I could see it. I think the biggest problem is that no matter what they go with plot-wise, the feel of the show will be off. They'll be trying too hard. Farscape to me had this feel to the writing like the writers understood their show had been written off. So they took this as freedom to do whatever the hell they wanted. They could jump from complete nonsense in one episode to deeply heartfelt or shit-your-pants serious/badass in the next.
the very fact that a new production would be more consistent and higher quality would I feel lose the Farscape-y attitude and turn it into just another sci-fi alien adventure.

Attached: farscape silliness.jpg (480x360, 16K)

checked

a bit interesting desu, I've considered that before in the show
what's to say that the time Crichton is in in the unchartered territories is the same time he was in back on Earth if he travelled there via wormhole? while I never cared for the earth episode and the documentary as they're too much of a new age-y reaction to post-9/11 society in a kind of dull way keeping the perceived xenophobic nature of Earth's culture and running from there into a hostile Imperialistic power could be interesting
As long as it wasn't too far in the future and Earth was still very much identifiable as Earth in material and culture to differentiate from the Peacekeepers, if it were like Space: Above and Beyond or Stargate's Earth in terms of style
it'd be very different from the original show but hey maybe that'd be much better than trying to recreate something that couldn't be recreated in this day and age
further I do wish the series had had fewer humanoid species as it detracts from how strange it is that humans and sebeacens look identical

Attached: best girl.webm (720x576, 636K)

>I do wish the series had had fewer humanoid species as it detracts from how strange it is that humans and sebeacens look identical
A lot of those humanoids in the uncharted territories were Sebaceans or were near cousins that had drifted off. They certainly did a better job of making their aliens alien than say star trek ever did, where everyone is just a rubber forehead or nose appliance and a dumb wig.

>chiana with cleavage you don't have to airbrush on
Ok!

her milkers are truly pathetic

Why did they have to kill blue bitch off

The lore of the series isn't all that interesting. The characters and the situations they got in to made the show good

the costume was literally killing her

The blue makeup, despite being a pain in the ass to apply, was also poisoning her kidneys, and she hated having to be completely bald all the time.
She hung on as long as she could but eventually had to leave.

>airbrush
They were using straight up paintrollers on her. She should have been proud of her DFC.

Attached: farscape chiana 2.jpg (480x360, 10K)

whats her actress up to now

Apparently her only credit since the farscape video game was an episode of rick and morty.

>I love hanging with you, man👌

Attached: farscape accidentally the whole gammak base.jpg (720x480, 20K)

Same episode featured Claudia Black, I watched it just today

To be fair when you are first watching the show you can mistake all that development for Star Trek-style character moments that are forgotten in the next episode. It isn't until later that season that it really becomes noticeable how much they've grown as a crew. And once you've seen the entire show and go back and rewatch it, that's when you can truly appreciate those moments for what they're fully worth. John getting closer to Aeryn and D'Argo, Rygel learning courage, Zhaan coming to terms with her darker side, etc.

Season 4 is the opposite, at least it was for me, I loved it the first time I watched the show but on rewatch it doesn't hold up as well. Still great TV but pales in comparison to the first three seasons

Attached: John-and-Aeryn-farscape-36869334-500-378.png (500x378, 336K)

Well she was already in her forties during Farscape I think

haha, that's old... haha

Well John was the audience surrogate early on but once he lost his mind I guess they needed a new "everyman" character to point out just how ridiculous their adventures are. She wasn't so bad, her developing relationship with Chiana was interesting. Stark was the worst character despite being the source of a decent meme

You gotta be shitting me this is an April fools joke right?
If can had to pick a sci-fi tv sidekick fren. I would pick sparky

Attached: Smug Rygel.jpg (480x360, 11K)

For an actress it definitely is, unless you're a major star it's very hard to find good acting work past age 50.

Good they had some great practical effects

Attached: FarscapeNatira.jpg (474x700, 104K)

I thought Season 4 went overboard with the John/Aeryn romance stuff
making them madly in love was just sort of silly

she has a net worth of 4 mil so I assume she's doing well

I hated Aeryn's character arc in season 4, she comes back after working as some sort of assassin/terrorist or some shit and she's all closed off and cold and treats John like shit. So much so that he starts taking space prozac to deal with her cuntishness. They took all of her character development from the first three seasons and deleted it, and she was my second favorite character after Rygel up until that season.

did farscape get syndicated often? I never saw it on american television

I have seen re-runs in the US, forget which channel. This was a few years ago

Not really. Sci fi not only killed the show, but they never even bothered to rerun it for a long time. It did get syndicated, but it only ever came on late as fuck where I came from.

Give it time. Then once you've finished start a thread about how you have yourself for waiting so long to watch it and how you'd suck an actual dick for it to continue.

Would legit throw a few grand into this if they got the original cast together to voice it.

But who would they get to voice Rygel?

>villain

Rygel > Aeryn (S1-3) > Harvey

This is an incredible moment in the show. I only finished rewatching it like three months ago but this shit makes me need to see it again.

The thing about Farscape is that some of it is shit, some of it is quite bland, but some of it is fucking gold. And the bits that are gold are SO gold you'll be thinking about them for the rest of your life.

Attached: Great Ass.webm (1920x800, 1.56M)

>"YOU'RE RIGHT! YOU'RE SO RIGHT!"
>turns to Rygel
>"he's absolutely right"

If there's one thing I don't remember Farscape ever being it's "bland." Also even the occasional bad episodes are still fun to watch in a bizarre clusterfuck sort of way. The absolute worst episode is "Taking the Stone" and yet it's a hoot from start to finish

sometimes forget how new age-y and preachy this show was at some points
if I saw something similar as an adult nowadays I probably wouldn't watch it desu

...i mean that could be cool but it's not really what i'm here for.

Farscape was a very specific intersection of trends that will never quite come around again.

>scifi is big on tv but doesn't require enormous budget blockbuster shenanigans with serialized dramatic arcs full of explosions and fist fights every episode
>but you can still do properly paced serial stories because you're not making your money off syndication or binging
>series almost entirely driven by a single creative voice because there's not a cloud of studio vultures circling overhead to replace you with hacks
shares these with B5

>zany 90s reference humor
>great practical effects as well as CG
>puppets
all its own

Basically I don't think you could do anything of the kind today. Even if you got O'Bannon and JHC back on board, the frame has shifted.

Attached: ass2.gif (640x368, 2.83M)

Lani Tupu.

>>series almost entirely driven by a single creative voice because there's not a cloud of studio vultures circling overhead to replace you with hacks
Not true though, Farscape was driven by four people. O'Bannon, Kemper, Manning and Monjo. Kemper was more involved with day to day showrunning than O'Bannon was. Also the network definitely fucked their shit up in season 4

Sealed off earth is a separate timeline than the rest of the universe and humans become the first peacekeepers.

Literally perfect.

don't like that idea honestly
would retcon what little worldbuilding there is

Bland may have been the wrong word. Tedious, perhaps. There are a handful of episodes that are so boring I haven't seen more than ten minutes of them in a decade. For the record this is coming from someone who loves Farscape like no other show and has rewatched it every year (sometimes twice) since it aired. Strongly agree on Taking The Stone - though the story behind it makes me glad it exists, even if I will never watch it again.

nah, she's out of focus

Tbh any addition to the series would likely be terrible. Farscape is one of those things that should just be left well alone. It was made by the perfect team in the perfect time.

Where 2 cop Harvey's shirt?

Well played, sir. Well played.

I'd give it a chance
I didn't like the return of Twin Peaks but it doesn't tarnish my view of the original two seasons

To be 100% correct. Rock O'Bannon teamed up with someone who penned one of the Farscape novels and it was absolute shit without Kemper or the other writers on board. It's so clear that O'Bannon was responsible for the lore and worldbuilding in the show (the weakest element of the series) and not much else. The art was shit and he pretty much just rips off the Star Wars EU for the story beats

I'm a sucker for a woman in a tall hat.

They soft rebooted the show to try to draw in new viewers because the suits thought the show wasn't accessible enough. So anyway they create stupid reasons to destroy the last 3 seasons of character development for her character and she's just a mean cunt again like she was in Season 1 Episode 1. WHAT THE FRELLING FRELL!?

They had all of the main characters go on their own personal adventures and come back different in some way, and they were all re-introduced in a way that explains who they are and what their role in the show is. It has also a different tone than the earlier seasons as they were forced to take on young new writers that the network had handpicked to "try out." This is how we got awful episodes like A Prefect Murder and Coup by Clam where everyone seems slightly out of character

That queen waifu episode made me cry

The first season started as a family friendly show with self-contained episodes. It changes quite a bit after the fist 12 or so episodes after they realized it wasn't working. You can skip ahead a bit and you won't miss anything big.

Does anyone think Scorpius looked a right gimp? he's only saved but the guy who plays him who sounds like Tarkin and his lines.

It was on cable so they're not bound to FCC regs like the watershed hour. They only have advertisers to worry about.
This show also co-existed with the shield for its last two seasons.

The first 12 episodes had a very different tone and sense of humor than the rest of the show. Sci-Fi told the producers to change things up and go dark and sexy, which is where we get Chiana from.

And I think everyone should skip Jeremiah Crichton. The only good thing about that one is the DVD commentary where they trash it for an hour.

I like to think the child Grayza had in the peacekeeper wars was actually john's and she was just cucking the admiral guy.🐸
