You know, for a super hero show, I actually kind of like that this episode did nothing but spend the whole time showing me the "heroes" going through shit in their day-to-day lives. It actually made me feel bad for them, but also showed them having to pull their own ass out of their personal shit, which is not something you see a lot in movies & TV, much less the entire cast doing it.

Though I guess the thing that bothers me most right now is Jane's character, because she's basically made up of personalities that are too "convenient" for the story moments, specifically like in this episode how she always seems to be Hammerhead when the plot decides she's got to be angry and yell and keep the group from solving their problem.

Like, I hope she is forced to go through the same and confront her own shit otherwise her character will stay pretty one-note.

I'm honestly just really enjoying the weirdness factor, but all the actors are pretty good and their characters are growing on me. Worst would probably be Crazy Jane, but her actress is a small latina with big juicy tits so it's tolerable. Brendan does a great job with the regular and the voice acting and April Bowlby is not only best girl but she can actually act, I assumed her bits would be the most boring but she's carrying the shit out of that part while being adorable to boot. Cyborg who is usually a one note character is also somewhat compelling.

Last episode was pretty great. Gay bandages man is the only one dragging the show.

If you're weighing up checking it out (cos you like Morrison's run or whatever) I'd say watch the first episode and see what you think.

There's plenty of weirdness, and some direct adaptations of story lines. But, being a reasonably mainstream TV show, the compromise is a lot of weird elements being introduced with characters exclaiming "That's so weird!" or "What the fuck!" to ease audiences into it.

What I liked most about Morrison's run is how normal weirdness is. It's just what they deal with in the same way Batman deals with an alley mugger or whatever. And in fairness, this last episode did seem to go a long way to present that as everyday.

The last few episodes made me realize that the only character I actually enjoyed was Mr. Nobody, even with the reddit-tier dialogue. Every single one of the others feels like they've been pulled out of a show from 40 years ago, especially with crazy jane and negative man.
Just as obnoxiously, these characters from obviously decades ago still randomly throw out woke rhetoric, like complaining about toxic masculinity and demanding gender neural pronouns, which breaks even what little suspension of disbelief it would've been possible to maintain in pretending the show was just made before I was born.

Only minor shit I even remotely care about at this point with the characters is how negative man's going to forgive himself and what's going on with cyborg's past. Maybe if the chronology of the story had been that all this shit started happening within the last year or so then I could buy it, but these characters have been nursing their issues for literally DECADES and haven't done SHIT to try to fix themselves. They deserve all the suffering they can get, so it's hard to really care all that much.

They did that scene but completely and totally fucked up the entire purpose of the scene with the garbage Manic Pixie Dream Girlification of Crazy Jane.

In the comic, the scene is to hammer home Cliff meeting someone more fucked up than he is to snap him out of his depression. In the show, it's to hammer home the idea Jane is fixing Cliff by having her show vulnerability and hammer home to Cliff that Jane can be his surrogate daughter.

Except that the scene is only done to create a riff between Jane and Cliff, as Jane was horrified that Cliff butchered Nazis and accused him of being a fraud as far as Jane thinking Nazi lives matter.

Larry being gay, I can understand since he's a worthless cipher and all. But they could have gotten way more mileage out of Negative Woman since she's ex-soviet military and would have contributed more to the plot and given Cyborg someone competent to play off of.

I think that was the weakest episode yet specifically because of it showing Jane going full Antifa wet dream and killing scores of people (who incidentally seemed to be completely innocent victims of the Nazi scientist), then being mad at Cliff for doing THE EXACT SAME THING.

Jane's switches aren't random, so it isn't just that the switches happen as lucky plot twists. Every one of them are just there waiting to have a function of some kind and can take control away from Jane when they feel like it. Hell even Jane is literally just another personality that Kate takes on when she doesn't want to have any actual powers and just wants to be a normal person.

Kate, being the core personality, probably has every power that all of her other personalities and they are actually just a way for her to avoid having all that power at once. Effectively its like abandoning the responsibility of becoming an adult and instead creating an elaborate system just so that Kate doesnt have to take responsibility for anything she actually does. She can just blame it on someone else.

Doom Patrol

Jane is by far the shittest character. Not funny. Not interesting. Not mysterious. Just an all around shit hypocritical character. And the whole, "DUH SHES SUPPOSED TO BE CRAZY" is lazy writing. At this point I dont even care if she had a shit childhood or whatever.

Rest are fine though. Rita and Cyborg were unexpectedly good. Brenden's great too even if he is just a VA.

Not exactly:

1. Jane was under the impression the Nazis were not human (robots) as opposed to clones sharing a hive mind with the doctor.

2. Also, she assumed that Cliff (given his high brow super-hero ideals) wouldn't kill anyone. Cliff killing the Nazis, made Hammerhead realize that Cliff was capable of violence just like most of the men who abused her. And even then it was only that personality that did so, as the Penny personality didn't have a problem with Cliff.

So it was a combination of realizing that Cliff being capable of violence and perhaps her own shock and horror at finding out that she had murdered people too, which caused her to shut down and blame Cliff as a means of misdirecting her own horror and shock.

To be fair, comic Jane is worse. Comic Jane is full Moe and pretty much a plot device deal where she switches personas and powers depending on what the story needed.

TV Jane, while a Manic Pixie, at least feels like a normal being and her interactions with the team seem realistic, especially with Cliff.

In the comic, Jane exists simply so Cliff can protect her smile. In the TV show, their relationship is way more complex in a daddy/daughter surrogate way.

They want to core team, plus Crazy Jane. Which means Larry and not Valentina.

They couldn't use Rebis because Rebis is a clusterfuck to explain (IIRC they still haven't explained what the hell happened to him or the doctor he merged with). And too problematic given that SJWs would freak at Rebis and accuse him of being a transphobic "freak" figure.

And with Cyborg on the team, they can't really have Valentina around to be the voice of sanity/reason. Plus, with Bomer, they have a blackballed actor who is so thirsty for work that he'll wear a mask over his face the bulk of his scene.

With Bomer, you could explore the angst angle of a hot looking, Alpha Chad race car driver in his prime losing his face, dick, body and such and coping with it whereas Brendon plays the laid back ex-fighter pilot now all bandaged up with a funky electric ghost friend, who has an on-again, off-again Hepburn/Tracy relationship with Rita.
