Explain to this zoomer how this guy got famous. I watched his podcast and he seems like some average midwit in spite of some of his intelligent guests, so I doubt his podcast got famous without some kind of existing fanbase. His comedy also fucking sucks.

He got famous because he was on TV a lot and people tuned in to his drugged out podcasts. He kept making podcasts and eventually he became one of the most popular podcast hosts because he got interesting guests. In reality, he sucked up to his friends and promoted them a lot.
He isn't better than you. He simply tried harder to get what he wanted.

I think his podcast is only as good as the guest, and the thing there is joe manlet over here is an "affable" sort of laid back guy who's not hard to open up to
popularity then stems from his persistence, he's been cranking them podcasts out for years multiple episodes a week

he was on news radio, probably one of the best 90s syndicated sit coms ever and was personal friends with the late phil hartman. he was also "ringside" pun intended for the rise of UFC to the mainstream so between those two things he had the cred to get a show like this off the ground and pulling high profile interviews. if you dont remember news radio you need to fuck off underage b& status.

His jokes aren't funny to me but in the technical side, I'd actually argue he's pretty good.
I don't like his jokes, but I've never come away from any of then ever thinking he half assed it, as juvenile as the jokes may be. They flow nicely, he usually gets five to six individual punchlines out of them, and even the more non sequitur ones still connect together even loosely.
I kind of get why he always goes about the craft of standup. He's charismatic and can be socially funny but he probably does have to treat comedy like a discipline far more than a lot of them.
