Say what you want about SNL but a vast majority of american comedians came from the show. He's directly or indirectly responsible for most comedies, shows and talk shows (Fallon and Conan). Besides most comedians grew up on the show.
So what will happen after this man dies? Will someone take over his place or the show will end and leave a blank spot on US comedy forever?

>So what will happen after this man dies?
American comedy might finally become good.

>a vast majority of american comedians came from the show
>a vast majority
Is this bait?

When he dies pete davidson will take over so he can continue his inexplicable existance in the public eye.

So what you're saying he's the reason American comedy is currently at it's worst state, allowing the likes of Pete Davidson and fat black lady to get as famous as they are

Yes, SNL is at its lowest but you can't take away his merits. Although some here would argue most of the comedians that came out of SNL were average to mediocre

>comedians
>Fallon

What would you describe him as? Remember that Amy Schumer is also a comedian for all sakes

a joke

SNL is where comics with potential go to die. A lot of comedians became massive after it, sure, but none of them became genuinely great comics with game-changing material. Meanwhile some guys like Louis CK got rejected and only grew better and better after it.

>vast majority

Majority of SNL players have gone on to well deserved D-list obscurity. The show is arguably on life support now, it has lost any spark of freshness and rebellion long ago. NBC has no idea what to do with the time slot without it. It is an albatross around the neck.

>responsible for Falon
A great way to ruin a legacy

most comedians joined SNL to cash out
they were already famous local stand up comedians or writers

Sure its impressive to run a show for so long, and to be a part of the industry, but has he done anything remarkable? Sure there's some amount of Tina Feys and Chris Rocks that go through him, and that is really great, but I really don't get the idea Lorne Michaels is a remarkably comedy-minded person or a really great decision maker. In every way shape and form, he's just another one of these Second City managers or Laugh Factory owners. Yes, absolutely active and important in the function of the famous comedy club, but does he really do much more than pick people he thinks can sell? There is merit to it, but I'm not really impressed. I struggle to really even call him a talent scout.

He produced a few gems like Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, Kids in the Hall and Coneheads
Don't know if he has any merits on those shows apart from having connections

why would someone even make a thread about Lorne Michaels of all people? What compels someone to spend a portion of his day on it? He's not a comedian or a real celebrity-celebrity himself.
I've never thought to myself "I really want to talk about Lorne Michaels with people now"

Nice trips. Don't you just spend your sunday morning thinking about rich jews like I do?

I remember when SNL was good...15 years ago.

>a vast majority of american comedians came from the show

that's nothing to be proud of

that doesn't make sense - the pay is not very good, it's basically most valuable for exposure.
also, the vast majority of cast members were barely known before SNL, at least to the general public

SNL’s quality has always ebbed and flowed. We are currently at a low point.

SNL high points:
>late 70s
>late 80s/early 90s
>very late 90s/early 00s
>late 00s/very early 2010s

Low points:
>Most of the 80s
>Mid 90s
>2012 to now

That's one thing I just realized. SNL was basically a platform for unknown comedians to become famous and stand out. Since today we have YouTube and other platforms SNL just lot all its meaning. People just find out about funny comedians on their own instead of waiting for which comedian would be hired next.
