>Since I was 12 years old there was a book I read, which is ‘Dune,’ which is my favorite book, with ‘1984.’ After ‘Prisoners,’ the producer of Alcon asked me what I would like to do next. I said, ‘Dune,’ spontaneously, that if anyone could get me the rights for ‘Dune’ — and I knew it was very difficult to get those rights. For me it was just a dream, and I guess I’m lucky that Mary Parent from Legendary got the rights and offered it to me. I can’t say no to that. I have images that I am haunted by for 35 years. I will not say no to that. That’s going to be the project of my life.
Guaranteed flop. Second part will probably be cancelled.
Andrew Anderson
C'mon man. So pessimistic.
Liam Edwards
>Guaranteed flop.
Fuck off, Mouse. Going by LotR and Harry Potter, major SF/Fantasy novels have done really well in the cinemas. Just by itself, the maligned Hobbit trilogy still made more than Avatar.
What's more, Dune has huge cross-generational appeal to boomers, Xers and Millennials, thanks to Lynch's version.
This guy is too talented for modern day America. If he were a director in the 80s he'd be counted among Cameron, Spielberg, Scott, and so on. Dune is going to be a great movie, but it's going to bomb out because America is in the early stages of balkanization and eventual collapse resulting in the deaths of millions.
Ryder Jenkins
Deakins probably wasn't available. The DP he's working with on this one isn't that bad.
Jason Sanchez
Sad but true.
Caleb Gonzalez
True but it will be god tier kino
Jackson Collins
Based. I don't care how much it makes.

>America is in the early stages of balkanization and eventual collapse
When you read "Dune" you are, in fact, trained to watch Denis Villeneuve.
Colton Perry
Why do you guys think it will flop?
Christopher Phillips
>America is in the early stages of balkanization and eventual collapse resulting in the deaths of millions source?
Matthew Harris
God, I can't imagine how many movies will be cancelled if the USA breaks out in a civil war.
Charles Fisher
I like Denis Villanoove's films, and I'm sure this one will be good too, but it just seems so obvious to me that it's destined to bomb. Dune isn't a big mainstream IP, it's always been kind of a weird cult thing with a limited audience. Your average normie isn't gonna care because it doesn't have that "I know that!/I remember that!" factor that's basically the only thing that draws an audience to the cinema nowadays.
Nathan Wood
>civil war
Are you guys confusing Twitter with an actual armed conflict?
Pretty sure the gosling incels still gravitate towards drive. BR is associated with them just because of that one meme.
Ian Cooper
Yes.
Jayden Watson
>civil war in America over the question of race? No way!
Nathaniel Butler
I don't know, I'm in Canada and when I look outside it just looks kind of like icy and melty snow.
Nathan White
Wus poppin bruh? How's the movie coming along?
Nicholas Cook
Getting excited
Landon Young
You sound retarded, why can't you talk english right? It's really not that hard.
Anthony Wright
Making a Dune adaptation in this decade is a mistake. Firstly, if you do it properly there is not a single keyboard warrior that won't get triggered. Secondly, the series hasn't been finished (none of the books Herbert's son wrote count) and even if they managed to make sequels, by the 4th book people would be too confused
Liam Evans
>America will collapse in your lifetime. Feels great tbqh fampai.
You're right because life is a tragedy like that. Passion projects are denied most of the time. Even if they are a financial boon then they get snuffed out because of other reasons - Gibson's Passion sure seemed like a passion of his, pun intended, and look what happened there.
He's right. No quips, no easy to digest external supplemental material, no appeal of a cinematic universe, actually takes some brainpower, isn't wall-to-wall action.
I want to be proven wrong. I want a full dune trilogy to God Emperor Leto. After that eh I don't care if the last 2 books aren't captured.
Ayden Morales
EH HEH HEH HEH.... sorry.
Hunter Hughes
Oh. I'm Denis S. not Denis V.
Blake Sanchez
Who's that
Angel Edwards
The next six years are going to be awful for you.
>and you're not going to like the eight years after that, either
I hope they can reuse the theme from Lynch's version somehow, maybe with a different instrumentation. Say what you want about the movie itself, but the main theme is absolutely brilliant. youtube.com/watch?v=zm4E4umP9Qc

The new Kubrick.

>You're not Kubrick, Denis. Kubrick respected masculinity which serves as foundation of character archetypes.
at least it will be better than what jordosky wanted with a scene with 1000 people shitting on command. Seriously wtf.

Wait, what? I never saw the doc

RAPING FRANK HERBERT! LIKE THIS! *RAPE MOTIONS*

My bad, it was actually 2000 people. > In order to insult Duke Leto, David Carradine, Rabban the Beast gets his army, the Algerian army, to pull down their pants in front of the palace and shit. So there’s going to be a scene of 2,000 extras defecating at once. archive.is/3jURu

there's no one more based and redpilled than St Denis
Hudson Rodriguez
KEK. Meanwhile PTA (whose movies I also love) has a black wife, respects women (ughh) and has Tiffany Haddish as lead in his next film.
It's going to bomb because the only movies people want to see in theaters are for children. Also the Dune franchise doesn't hold nearly the same weight as Star Wars even though the latter was stolen from the former
Brayden Watson
She's playing Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik's new film user. :)
Alexander Sanchez
It will make no money but be so kino that studios will give us part 2 anyway. They'd happily pay lots of money for more kino.
Hudson Powell
YES!!! :)
Zachary Barnes
problem with originators that got ideas stolen from is that by the time originator gets a movie adaptation people say seen it all before.
Josiah Baker
this. WB has their DC, The Meg, etc slate to make money and offset artistic flops.

Dune isn't a story about heroes.
Wyatt Murphy
it isn't but superbeing is superbeing so no complaint
Ian Wood
My dick is diamonds for this movie.
Michael Gonzalez
Is Dune any good?
I mean, I've never been that much interested on it, but there are so many people liking it in the Internet that it must have some value.
Does it hold up against the likes of The Magic Mountain and Crime and Punishment?
Also, replace Dune with Lord of the Rings and Lovecraft and I have the same questions about it
Connor Edwards
it's easy to support feminism after you shot feminists kekekekek based Denis
Adrian Reyes
Sadly, it will flop. No amount of dumbing down will make Dune appealing to normies.
Dune is excellent though not the easiest read. if you are into worldbuilding, than it's for you.
LOTR is excellent too, easy read if you get past first 20 pages where Tolkien's too heavy on forest description. Epic thing.
Never read Lovecraft, my bad.
Chase Green
Who gives a shit about not performance as long as we get kino?
Carter Scott
you think denis the penis and chalabae did it? I think they did.
Nolan Harris
If I were Denis, I'd definitely make use of my director's rights to get that sweet boipuss
Austin Wilson
I'm going to spend $806 million on tickets for it because I'm an eccentric billionaire so fuck you.
Robert Bailey
Denis retains his semen. Us mortals wouldn't understand.
Jackson Scott
And this is why you're not a famous director and no one gives you any authority
Luke Kelly
You should. If it bombs we won't get any sequels.
Landon Evans
I hope he covers the first book and makes 2 movies simultaneously. It's the best.
Cameron Martinez
He made a racist imageboard fall in love with a SPIC. I think you should respect his casting choices until you see it in the final movie.
Parker Wood
He's filming both films back to back. We get 2 films regardless
Blake Lewis
Who
Lucas Rogers
Dune is shit and very soft sci-fi. The middle-eastern culture wasn't well known back when the books were written but now they are overdone.
They are classics but aged terribly. If you want kino sci-fi go read the "revelation space" trilogy. There was a short of this universe made by Netflix recently in "Love,Death Robots" called "Beyond the Aquila Rift"
Leo Murphy
It will be a huge plep-filter, who cares if it bombs, one day it's going to be a classic. The only reason I want it to do well is so we can have a sequel or 2, besides that I could care less.
Josiah Turner
Has the part of JFK been filled?

Dune is excellent, but dense and maybe a little dry (no pun intended). When I first started reading it, I wasn't really digging it, but by maybe a dozen pages in, it had started to grab me, and the more I read, the more riveted I became, and the faster the book went. It's more a book about setting, plot and ideas though, and people who are mainly looking for charming or funny character personalities may be disappointed. The prose, itself, is competent but workmanlike, and not really deserving of any awards. Also, because there's so much going on, I'd recommend that you read the book relatively quickly--or at least not slowly--or you'll probably lose a lot of the details and get less out of it. All in all, Dune is probably my favorite book.
Lord of the Rings has some really interesting world-building, but it's a real slog, and Tolkien is honestly a pretty shitty storyteller.
Lovecraft's better stuff can be really good, though a lot depends on what you think of his flowery language. Some people love it, while others hate it. If you're one of the former, or in some sort of middle ground, then he definitely has something to offer. Some good stories: The Shadow Over Innsmouth, At the Mountains of Madness, The Color Out of Space, The Shadow Out of Time, The Outsider, and The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath.
Chase Fisher
>The prose, itself, is competent but workmanlike No idea what this means I hate lords of the rings and think it's complete shite. Probably seinfeld syndrome but it's a completely unreadable slog for me.
I like geopolitics, factions and power struggles though but I have no idea how much sci-fi dune is and how much is just star-wars "science themed fantasy"
Henry Green
Workmanlike: displaying an acceptable level of skill but no great artistry or style.
Dune is as fantastical as Star Wars is, but technology matters in its own right, and isn't just "painted on". The ramifications of science and technology are absolutely foundational to the story. But there's plenty of mystic shit going on too.
Julian Ward
When early gen zoomers are old enough to fight you best believe there will be a shitstorm
