I don't get it
I don't get it
You are looking at the over-intellectualized, meandering, self obsessed delusions of a man who should never been put in charge of a film crew.
It has no value, no relevance, and serves only to confuse. If you feel that this world needs more confusion in it, then I bet you love this film...
... and I bet you're a confused person yourself
It was the start of a cinematic universe but the studios killed the sequel. The star baby was supposed to hatch and attack earth. In the third part of the trilogy the earthpeople rebuild a new Hal to help them defeat the star baby
It's just 'boomer babble', don't listen to anyone who tries to explain it to you or asks you to watch it again. Boomers love to pretend that they're better than you and their media is somehow better as well. Tell them to shut the fuck up and drop a dab on em
Mfw zoomers cant grasp anything deeper than an episode of umbrella academy
Read the book. Kubrick was going for ambiguity but the book spells it out
This. The studio thought it would be over budget so they pulled the plug
I looked up the intended meaning after watching and speculating on it first, it's literally a time baby/space baby or whatever. Bit disappointing actually
read the book plebs
Cope, boomer boy
> I’ve tried to avoid doing this ever since the picture came out. When you just say the ideas they sound foolish, whereas if they’re dramatised one feels it, but I’ll try.
> The idea was supposed to be that he is taken in by god-like entities, creatures of pure energy and intelligence with no shape or form. They put him in what I suppose you could describe as a human zoo to study him, and his whole life passes from that point on in that room. And he has no sense of time. It just seems to happen as it does in the film.
> They choose this room, which is a very inaccurate replica of French architecture (deliberately so, inaccurate) because one was suggesting that they had some idea of something that he might think was pretty, but wasn’t quite sure. Just as we’re not quite sure what do in zoos with animals to try to give them what we think is their natural environment.
> Anyway, when they get finished with him, as happens in so many myths of all cultures in the world, he is transformed into some kind of super being and sent back to Earth, transformed and made into some sort of superman. We have to only guess what happens when he goes back. It is the pattern of a great deal of mythology, and that is what we were trying to suggest.
What is this from??
Superman Returns
Ya know it makes me wonder why he explained in that interview alone but not others pretty odd
the moon is a baby and earth is its mother
>ITT: providing or searching for literal meanings to art
Millennials cannot into hidden narrative
The fetus was supposed to destroy the oribiting nukes and make mankind undergo a rebirth but Kubrick was sick of being associated with nukes so he left it at that.
It’s also a lot better if you watch it set to Echoes by Pink Floyd.
What's there to not get? Humanity has entered the next stage of its evolution, symbolized here by a fetus.
Thanks pops, why don't you go fire up the old television and watch one of your black and white pictures while the rest of us live an actual life.
At beginning of film during the birth of man sequence the monolith inspired the use of tools (bone weapon) in primitive humans and this was a key stage in our evolution. After Bowman defeats HAL he has come to the end of that road (dependence on tools) and he passes through the monolith/stargate where he dies and ascends to next stage of human evolution and is reborn as a godlike being similar to the ones who created the monoliths
It’s his squatters right to life
movie begins with apes evolving into man
movie ends with man evolving into starchildren
we iz babies or some shit
Sneed
revolution of the consciousness. going beyond mind. read osho.
Great recommendation
Too many coincidences on how most of Floyd's stuff works with motion pictures
So what the fuck does a “time baby” mean?
Muh fucka turned into a god baby amd returned to earf to help humans evolve
there is nothing to get, thats the con
I don't know why nobody is mentioning Nietzsche, lot of things makes sense when you now about his philosophy desu
The physical manifestation of tabula rasa. The only way to advance is to start from a clean slate, humanity is flawed. That is the message it's trying to convey.
I don't get it
Dave evolves into some new life form via the monolith. That's basically it
People keep saying "read the book". The book and film were developed in parallel, all they had was a skeleton of an idea and they decided to go in similar but separate directions with it. The book is not a key to solving anything in the movie
Masturbatory imagery by the writer. Watch Gravity for a more understandable philosophical message without the cosmic monolith of meaningfulness.
Are you fucking serious
It's an excuse to be pretentious. Throw in some random shit and watch retards run around trying to figure out the "real meaning" for decades while they sniff their own farts
Nailed it.
New Netflix original, Spaceballs
Ooo....k
But how does that tie into the movie as a whole. Just seems like a random twist
>actual life
fuckk off kiddo
its no different from a story of someone returning changed from their journey. just more so of humanity in general than one specific person. being out there will change humanity in unfathomable ways and what comes back would be beyond us to say. you think columbus was thinking of a new world with kids riding around on electromotive scooters when he set off?
He wasn't "going for ambiguity". He used the book to shape the visuals of his own film. Everything you need to know is in the film.
